Thread: OctaneRender for Poser | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - Hi
The functionality of the first release of OctaneRender for Poser is done (to be released "soon"), so I'm looking at Instancing now. The instancing implementation in Octane is pretty mind-blowing - even on my 192 core card I can render 20million polygon scenes! I've posted some Instancing photos on the facebook page (see link below).
Oh, and PaperTiger - loving your recent gallery postings!
I can't wait to get my hands on the Poser plug-in, it looks great!
Thanks for the compliment.

Quote - Another thing which surprised me is that GPU usage has a big impact on the overal UI of the entire system. If you render other apps will be quite sluggish in their UI. It is not a solution for offloading CPU power to the GPU and getting a more responsive system.
I guess that is why some people recommend having three cards in their system with one being inactive in Octane
I use two videocards in my system. One is for the attached display device and the other is only for Octane Render. The card for the display is disabled (unchecked) as a Cuda device in the Octane Render program preference settings menu.
By having 2 videocards, one for the display and the other dedicated to Octane Render you will not have a sluggish UI when working with Octane Render or Windows. Another advantage is that all the RAM on the card dedicated for Octane Render will be available for your Octane Render scenes.

Quote - The skin material looks as above. The settings on the right are the settings for the SSS. Scale is about the only one I change. This is not the best SSS shader out there, but it's in the right direction.
I use the same basic glossy/diffuse mix material to setup SSS in Octane. The only difference is the value settings as you previously surmised.

Quote - PaperTiger - stunning renders. For eyes - make sure you set the scene rayepsilon to 0.00001 (ie. the default/10) - that ensures the transmapped corneas work correctly (prob not an issue with Daz models, but it is with Alyson, Miki, etc). That skin shader is fantastic - we should trade SSS shader node setups some time. I suspect everyone is using the same sss shader (material mix with a glossy and diffuse), it's just the parameters that differ.
Thanks and you are indeed correct about the SSS shader I'm using being a material mix composed of glossy and diffuse.

Quote - geogress, so how come union auto workers get $80 and hour, benefits, and can retire sooner than non-union guys? The losers: us because we have to pay more. We also lose because the unions forced companies like GM to hand over so many concessions that the US auto makers can't survive on their own. So we lose again when that (blank) in office decides to bail out the automakers.
Another problem of unions: link
So if 50% of students are failing and the unionized teachers are making 3-4 times more than the average person in that town (and getting 2 months vacation), why would the union be a good-guy when it against less than half an hour extra work? I say fire the bums. Unions aren't always the good guys looking out for the workers.
Or take football. There are 53 players (plus IR) people on a team. Teams must spend a minimum of about 100 million on its players during capped years. That wasn't good enough for the players and too much for the owners so we are looking at an uncapped year and maybe a future strike. So what happens? The fan gets screwed because he has to pay more for tickets, and concessions, and parking.
It's okay Tiger, it's just that unions have good sides (coal miners) and bad sides (auto workers) and there's plenty of stuff out there for pros and cons if you want to do research. If you want a good grade, you'll probably do better by finding people who say unions can't do any wrong. If you want to learn then do your research about the pros and cons before hand and grill both the union guy and the manager.
BTW, my main point in posting in this thread is that there are other people in the equation besides union people and managers. There are auto buyers, parents/students, fans, and others who can be helper or hurt by the presence of a union.
The problem with this is that you are hijacking my request for help thread and turning it into a political discussion which violates the rules of the Renderosity forums. I do not wish to violate any rules so I must now ask a mod to close this thread with my request for help unanswered.

Sorry,
I didn't intend for this to become an open discussion about a forbidden topic. It was merely a request for participants to help me with a personal university project by filling out a simple questionnaire in private.
