Thread: Has your Poser stopped working? License issues? Can't start Poser? | Forum: Poser 11 / Poser Pro 11 OFFICIAL Technical

Msellers2 writes, "The thing is the internet was down still. A dialogue box came up saying could not start because lease could not be verified. So, does that mean I don't own the software? I thought I'd bought it."
If I understand correctly, lots of software (not just Poser) these days regularly "calls home" to the merchant's server so as to verify that the user's license is valid. As example, there have been threads on the SketchUp forum about this too.
If I understand correctly, what this means is that nobody actually owns software anymore. We own it only so long as the merchant is still in business, still owns the software, and their servers are up and running.
Can't say this for sure, but my guess is that if Smith Micro had just pulled the plug on Poser and walked away, instead of selling Poser to Renderosity, then all copies of Poser everywhere might have then gone dead. Again, just a best guess, and happy to be corrected as needed.
And again, to the best of my knowledge this is an issue that affects many different softwares these days, and not just Poser. It appears this is how software merchants are protecting their businesses against rampant software piracy, which is certainly a valid concern.
Yes, it SUCKS that so many software manufacturers have taken the measures you mentioned. 20 years ago when you bought SW it was good for years; I still use Word 2000 and Photo Impact from that era today -- because they still work fine for my needs and the license is forever -- as it SHOULD be. I feel sorry for all the Photoshop users that pay by each month or by the year just to use it. I paid less for Photo Impact (which still does 95% of what Photoshop can do) and Word 2000 than what Adobe charges for one month of Photoshop...
For Poser 11, there is a way to have it not call home to confirm validation before it will operate. I'm not sure what you must do to qualify (unreliable or very expensive Internet access?), but I believe the author of this thread, jennblake, can help.

Thread: How to get Poser lights IN THE SAME ROOM as the scene??? | Forum: Poser 11 / Poser Pro 11 OFFICIAL Technical
Thanks for your replies, guys!
Structure: I will try the XYZ Trans dials to see if that helps; I think I've have tried them before and gave up because of how many spins it took to get anywhere. I'm still confused why Poser puts lights so far away, though.
RedPhantom: I'll try dragging the lights in wireframe and see if that simplifies things.

Okay - my original S/N activated the 11.3 download so thanks for the advice! I found I couldn't load folders of numerous models with the Add to Library function, so I'll continue loading them one at a time in my preferred order as I've done for years. But I'm back in business again!

Once you enter your serial number, the trial will end and the program will be activated. You should not need to reinstall all your models, follow the advice in this PDF
Thanks for the help! And I did not know I could add an entire folder of characters at once though the 'Add to Library' tool; I add each model separately by selecting its Runtime, although then I can group them in my desired order -- but it takes a lot of Library listing space since the categories aren't contained within a folder. I suppose if you add a folder of models to the Library at once, they will show up in the Poser Library as a folder under the folder's name and in the order they appear in that folder? I'll try it out...

I had to reinstall Poser 11 Pro from the original disc on my W7 Pro 64 platform. Like others here have reported, the S/N was rejected for numerous reasons having to do with too many installations, etc. So I followed the advice of this thread in using the uninstall geek app and then installed the 11.3 free trial. I am just about to reinstall hundreds of models, morphs, props, etc.and want to MAKE SURE that when the trial ends I'll be able to use my original S/N to permanently activate this installation. Will this allow me to also download the bonus content pack? Also, can I enter my S/N now to unlock 11.3?
Thanks!

Happy to hear you got Vicky working again! Sometimes it is difficult to know WHY a particular fix fails numerous times and then finally works later...very frustrating. Perhaps the moon was in its proper phase to please the Poser God this time around. I hope you now create a system backup image that includes you're now functional V4 to use next time something like this happens...

Joker2000 -
There HAS been a war between DAZ and Poser since the early days of Poser when some of the original Poser content creators chose to leave and create DS and their own figures. The chances of DAZ ever making a later figure with native Poser functionality is about as good as Apple and Micro$oft ever joining forces...
The DAZ V4 / M4 figures were the last ones to natively work in Poser, and I still prefer these to any later DAZ or Poser models in terms of photo-realism and amount of content / morph charactors still available for them. Plenty of Poser users still use the V4 M4 models...

I've had problems with V4, too. It used to work, but then I had the same problem with not closing the eyes, so I used Squint. But then, more recently, I'm unable to load Base morphs and Morphs++ to V4. I went back to Daz and manually downloaded the V4 Starter bundle I bought last year and reinstalled it. The Base morphs are in the head, but the other morphs are nowhere to be found. Luckily, I had copied her to a cr2 file back in January and that has the Morphs++, but her eyes won't close. There are some things that don't work either (can't remember offhand).
See this post for a solution that worked for me. @4387492
In fact, read the entire thread if you care to. Seems there is some corruption in some version(s) of V4 of items in the Head folder, and swapping these folders from the current DAZ V4 download into your existing V4 may be the cure. Hope this helps you!
Thread: How to adjust the parameter dial text size in 11.2? | Forum: Poser 11 / Poser Pro 11 OFFICIAL Technical

The delay you are referring to may be the indexing that occurs when a library is added. The indexing will happen during startup when you run Poser after manually updating the file.
Mostly I notice a orange circle in the upper right area of the library that begins pulsing while a runtime is loading. Sometimes it will allow me to add another runtime or two while pulsing or block my efforts if there is too much content being indexed. It still puzzles me how long this indexing process takes when no content is being moved or copied -- in fact, it would take less time to make a copy of the content, often times around 50+ MB each, then for Poser to just index it. My 7200 RPM HDDs are old but still have no difficulty copying data at better than 100MB/sec sustained. Go figure.
Thanks guys for the info about mass library indexing using XML lists. I'll certainly look into that.

You may try a system restore then as you mentioned above. If the restore point was after Poser was installed then Poser should still be fine. If you installed Poser after that change then you will have to reinstall. In any case, most people are using a second runtime folder separate from the default "Poser 11 Content". You can rename your current folder as a backup. A runtime folder will not be touched and can be added back to Poser as a library even after a complete reinstall. Press the add library button on the libraries window. Most of my content runtimes are safely installed on a different HDD. However, I have hundreds of runtimes and it takes me months to re-load them into the Library one at a time. After the first twenty or so it takes 5-20 minutes before the Library will accept the next item.

This may give you some more useful information:link
In the past i have used the method of disable high dpi scaling by changing the shortcut for Poser to specify "let application decide".
Thanks for the tip!
I tried to change the "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" under the compatibility tab but all choices were greyed-out no matter which related settings I tried.

There is a Poser Pro Update from 10 and below offer going on right now for $84. Don't know how long it will last; perhaps they are clearing inventory for the release of Poser 12? Looks like you need Windows10 to run this version where the original PP11 ran on W7. This is the lowest price I've seen in years. https://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/poser-pro-11-upgrade-from-poser-10-9-8-7-6-or-poser-debut/112661/
This upgrade also includes a lot of bonus content: https://www.renderosity.com/have-you-seen-the-new-poser-pro-11--cms-22318
Might be worth checking out if your computer meets the specs. and you're not waiting for the next version. Also don't know if using the Serial # from your previous version for this upgrade offer will allow the older version to still operate.
