Thread: Request for help with material/lighting problem | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thank you for your reply, moriador. I do have "Smooth polygons" unchecked, and "Use displacement maps" checked, in the render settings panel. I assume that is what hameleon meant in the ReadMe.
I realized I had turned off "Indirect Lighting" because it slows the rendering tremendously, and I get overly bright renders when it is on. I turned that back on, and ran the close-up again, and the mesh is no longer visible in the render, but I can still see the alpha around the lace. And the light colored stuff in the background is blown out like an over-exposed photograph.
I do not have "Gamma correction" checked, I'll try enabling that. I'm not sure where the gamma settings for the trans, bump and displacement maps are, but I'll try to find them.

Quote - Hi- This is a very noob question about basic workflow. I just got Poser Pro 2014. Say I add one of the included figures, and I see I can pose him, change the facial structure, etc. Totally cool.
Now I have a specific type of costume I want him to have - it is not included. Can I take the existing clothing and alter it? Turn a t-shirt into a jacket? Or do I find/buy a costume and have him wear it?
thanks for any help?
As a beginner your best bet is to find a costume/outfit you like at one of the many sources that are available, either freebies or purchased. Make sure the outfit is listed as being compatible for your particular character - outfits are made to fit specific characters. Making or modifying clothing items is something for a somewhat more experienced or advanced user.

Quote - Is there a seperate 'Reality' forum for us that have not bought or used Lux render?
The "official" Reality forums are now hosted on the RDNA servers. If you go there they should be easy to find.
LuxRender is open source and free, just Google for LuxRender.
Let me know if you have any dificulties finding either of them.

@LadyBree:
Here is a good, concise explanation of getting the DSON stuff working:

Hope this helps.

Thread: Can't move parameter dials - Stupid user question | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
It is so strange... I quit PP2014, then restarted it and was able to move the dials. Then, as I was messing around with the object I was posing (a "prop" shirt) it suddenly quit working again.
There does not seem to be any reason, or pattern, that I can detect.
If someone knows what can be done to reactivate the dials without restarting Poser, it would sure be appreciated.

Thread: Install Renderosity products into DAZ for Mac? | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Did you get the DittoGUI program? It bypasses all the complexity of using the ditto commands in terminal mode, something I was not eager to delve into.
Here's how I use it, and what works for me. After downloading a product from Renderosity or RDNA (or anywhere else for that matter, other than DAZ), you will find (usually) a zip file in your Downloads directory. For example, I recently purchased a new character on Renderosity called Dixie by Sabby on Renderosity. The download file is called Sabby-Dixie_140013_141177.zip. What I have done is to create a separate directory I called DAZ Studio Files, and I move the zip file from my Downloads folder into that directory before unzipping.
Next, double-click the zip file and it will create a new folder, usually with the same name as the zip file, minus the .zip of course. Or, unzipping may simply produce a file called Runtime. This distinction is important to determine what to do next.
You need to know where your DAZ content library resides. Mine is in Documents > DAZ 3D > Studio > My Library. Inside of that, there is a directory called Runtime. You will use DittoGUI to copy the unzipped product directory into either My Library or Runtime. If the unzipped file folder is called Runtime, you copy it into your Runtime directory. If the unzipped fiel folder is called by the product name, like Sabby-Dixie_140013_141177 in my example, copy it into My Library.
So, now you start DittoGUI, and you will see a small window with two boxes labelled Source and Destination. Drag your unzipped product folder onto "Source" and the target directory (either Runtime or, in my example, My Library) onto "Destination. Then, click the little "ditto mark" icon right below the lable dittoGUI at the top, and watch the spinning icon for a second or two while Ditto does its thing.
That's it! Now your product content should be in the right places and will appear in your library next time you run DAZ Studio. What I do now to clean up, is to trash the unzipped folders from my DAS Studio Files directory, and move the zip files into a subfolder I call "Installed" so they will be there for safekeeping in case I need them in the future.
By the way, this whole process works just the same way if you are installing into a Poser library, substituting the appropriate directory names, of course. I use both DAZ Studio and Poser Pro 2012, and this all works great for me.
Good luck.

Quote - One of my first renders with R3/Lux. I used the overhead Meshlight. Experimenting with shiny surfaces was the main focus. Render time was about 6 hours on quad-core PhenomII w/8gb ram.
The paint on the car is outstanding!!
There's a car???

I am using PP2012 on an iMac 27" system with OS X 10.4
When I select a prop I made, and then check the "Display origin" checkbox, I do get the green crosshairs, but the three Origin parameter dials do NOT appear.
How do I access those dials?

Quote - > Quote - Mike, you might take a look at the ShaderWorks Library Manager, it might suit you better than Poser's built-in library.
Cheers.
Hmm, remember seeing it and thought it was for poser 8 and 2010, will see if it was updated, thanks.
I second the recommendation of Library Manager 2 - and I can confirm that it works great with PP2012. It makes the Library in Poser ALMOST usable... LOL.

I strongly recommend a little utility program called 'Ditto.' It allows you to merge the folder(s) in the product you've downloaded into your library, which Windows does easily but for some reason the Mac OS does not.

@datastorm:
Victoria 4.2 (V4.2) is simply the current version of Victoria 4 (V4). This is the version being provided by DAZ presently, and is the version you shoulld be using.
