Kerwin, I have made DAZ Studio scripts to convert glossiness imported from Poser content to the correct value, as long as it uses the Simple tab in the material room (or just plugs the specularity node without extra stuff in the advanced tab). It's sold at YURdigital.com, see my sig. There is also a companion script that does the reverse, convert from gossiness to highlight size.
@Kevin Sanderson: you don't need to purchase a DAZ Studio for each one of your computers, actually. Check the license, it specifically states that you can install one copy of DS on all the computers at one address, be it your home or office. So if you work at home you just need one license for all computers!

Oh great! Thank you Miss Nancy, I'll try to remember to use those render settings! ^_^
I found the ambient occlusion quality hidden away in the Scene AO Options, gonna play with that.

Quote - I dunno about D|S, but if ya use poser 8 or later with IDL enabled and the FFRender script, then the first irradiance cache figure is ignored, whilst the second produces progressively smaller IDL calculation errors as it's increased. setting the second irradiance cache figure to 100 will produce the slowest render with the least errors. see att. img for maxxed settings (very slow).
Hi Miss Nancy, I see you're on a Mac and I'm on Windows but my render settings don't look like that at all! :-S I have P8 and my Render settings look a lot like P6's, with the exception that it has an Indirect Diffuse checkmark and an ID quality slider. I don't have an ID Intensity, Bounces nor Samples sliders. Is that available in P8, or is it a commercial script, or is it Poser Pro?
@FrankT: lol, the more I test in Firefly, the more I'm liking it. It uses some, huh, interesting speed-up tricks but at least it's fast!

Quote - Noble quest.
NOT to be discouraging, but you're looking at completely different material sets (shaders), render engines, lighting (no idea if DS has IDL, but I doubt it)... there are just so many differences, it would be a kludge at best to approximate a similar rendering environment.
I'm rendering scenes created in Poser in LuxRender and of course getting completely different results. It's just the nature of apples vs oranges, IMEHO.
Hi Robyn great to see you here! ^_^ DS does have Indirect Diffuse, but only on Advanced. Unless someone makes available a preset camera shader for free in which case everybody could have it.
Math is my bread and milk, I read Firefly is almost Renderman compliant and 3Delight definitely is, so the render engines themselves can't be that different.
Most of the stuff depends directly from the shaders, and those can be easily made (for math-oriented people at least) in Shader Builder in DSA, so it is at least feasible to match Poser renders in DS.
Biggest problem is AO/ID that uses a clever interpolation in Poser, while in DS it's akin to pointillism (meaning much slower render time to get smooth results).
Regarding Lux beating Firefly hands down, I disagree. Use gamma shaders, reflections, ID lighting and use ambient images as light source(s) and you have a render that is equally as "physically based" (what's ray-tracing if not physically based, I wonder?) and "unbiased" as Lux's. What's great in Lux is the progressive render, which allows users to learn faster the shader-work, and the GPU acceleration if and when it will come. I don't know about Firefly but in 3Delight/DSA you can even add BRDFs which constitute the real advantage of advanced renderers. If people could make material room nodes, i suspect you'd see some exciting stuff coming out for Firefly.
Bagginsbill made a thread about what I mean with ambient lighting, but I can't find it anymore.
