Had similar trouble... didn't realize it was the hair. My work around was to import to Ray Dream 5.0 Apply the texture there, and export it as a obj file... that didn't work. Tried exporting as dxf file.. didn't work. After reading about hair.. didn't work. Flipped the texture vertically and bingo... its so much easier the second time! Check out my shuttle pic...
