Quote - I am continuing to get the needed responses to the questions I asked and compiling those for the programmers. With the site redesign everyone has been pretty tied up with that for awhile.  We are taking this seriously and have been doing research and testing for months now to try and pin down the issue.
What just beats the heck out of me though is, I set up I know 10 different email accounts with different providers and have yet to receive the first spam to any of them..I only put them in my profile here on my test accounts, made sure to get ebots for a few forums, fav artists, fav vendors, newsletter (each one I did a little different so maybe if one of them actually received any spam it would help narrow down the problem) and then just let them sit. I didn't send anything from those accounts and its been over two months and I've yet to see anything unusual..just the ebots that I asked for. Â
I do receive spam on my personal accounts that I actually use on a daily basis. But all those, I'm sending mail from, receiving lots of mail, use on different sites, etc..so I expect spam on those but these other 10, nothing???Anyhoo, hopefully we can get some results soon:)

Thanks for your respose Stacey.  And thank you for taking our concerns seriously. I know this is a tough problem overall.
I've had another thought on this.
Do merchants have access to people's addys?
I know I've received updates notifications by email and notifications of gifts from merchants by email.
If their systems are flawed in some way then it could create a vulnerability for our email addys.
This could account for some receiving spam and some not.

Quote - Please, read what I write, not what you want to read.
I said that there are computers infected with trojans generating spam emails with spoofed 'send from' info to amongst others, Renderosity members. And that's a perfectly good explanation of what's going on, why you are receiving spam on and from Rendo accounts.
I didn't say it's your fault or it's your system doing that. You are on the receiving end and sometimes it looks like you've sent spam to yourselves thanks to the 'spoofing'.
That's all.
To paraphrase you, TrekkieGrrrl: " WHY is it that hard for members to admit that there may be faults in the glorious members' system?"This is the last I'll say on this subject. "Why write if you choose to read what's not written?"

As a Sysop on another news-server I'm appalled by the way you Andy are answering posters genuine concerns about spam!
A moderator should be polite at least.
I'm having exactly the same problems other posters in this thread have with spam to an email which is dedicated to Renerosity. I do not have trojans etc. That's insulting to people's integrity to suggest it's our fault. There is a flaw in the system somewhere and I can assure you it's not in mine. This thread has confirmed what I suspected - that the fault lies with Renderosity.
As someone who addresses questions about computer security I know that the only way spammers could get hold of Renderosity addys is for Renderosity systems to have a flaw which allows addys to be stolen.
The spam started several weeks ago.
I suggest that you cool down Andy and have some discussions with other mods and Admin and address posters' genuine concerns in a civil and adult manner.
Thread: Sexist programmers ??? | Forum: Community Center
Quote - Grammatically speaking, It is more correct to say "his" than "their" (as their is meant only as a plural pronoun), and it is still considered by most english professors (male and female) to be less awkward to say he, him or his when referring to an unknown gender rather than he/she, him/her or his/hers. Additionally, the US is one of the very few cultures (tho not the only one) in the world where some people consider it sexist. It many cultures, > Quote - That's pretty much old hat nowadays. Perhaps in a very nit-picking grammatical way it might still be true. However to use the male gender as the norm is very old fashioned and extremely insulting to women.   This isn't just in the US but in the UK also. 'Their' is the only satisfactory way to say it in English, which is the language we use.Â

Thread: Can't read the teeny weeny writing! | Forum: Community Center
Thanks everyone for your advice. :-) But I'm not really looking to change my browser. Running multiple browsers has caused all sorts of probs in the past so I'm not doing that again. I do stationery and Netscape is hopeless for that along with many other problems. Changing screen fonts would prevent me checking the sites which I have to do. But why should I flip my settings about to suit just 1 site? As IE is still the majority browser I thought that Renderosity might by looking to fix this problem in their coding. It's still a problem on the marketplace pages for links and descriptions, so I would have thought they would want to fix it, it's obviously the same problem. Also the page just sits there in the middle with white spaces either side, which makes everything smaller, looks bad! More and more people are going to be moving up to 1280 and even higher resolutions in the near future so it seems sensible to future-proof a new setup in my view. Why would a business want to settle for something that's worse than what they had before? Beats me!

Quote - "Use Firefox -- re-sizing is easy in that :)"
Thanks for the suggestion pearce :-) Firefox isn't really an option for me - I find IE generally serves and can't really be bothered with a whole new programme. I'm afraid I need to use the programme that the majority does to monitor several sites. Anyway, even though I've heard very good reports of Firefox, I think Renderosity should cater for the programme which about 89% of surfers use. ( I may be wrong on the exact % as I haven't checked that stat lately).

Thread: Marketplace Wishlist improvements and more!!!! | Forum: Community Center
Quoting electronicpakrat
At present, if I log into the forums first I cannot view my wishlist, cart, etc. Instead of asking me to login again (that would at least have been nice), it just says my wishlist is blank (contains no items) which was quite misleading initially.<<
Hi
I'm not on Renderosity staff or anything but perhaps a temporary help to you would be to export the 2 Renderosity cookies then you wouldn't need to keep logging in again.
It sounds like you clear your browser cache each day, this means you must log in again.
Once your cache is cleared I'd visit the forums straight away and then the marketplace and login for each once more.
Don't visit any other sites.
When you've done this In IE - File | Import and Export, run the wizard and export cookies.
Just run the same wizard again to import the cookie file next time you want to visit then you won't have to log in again.
This might help anyway.

I know sale items have been discussed somewhere. But I can't find it. Since the date of a sale item disappeared from the actual product page, or even a mention that it is on sale as far as I can see! I can't find anywhere to assess when the sale on an item ends. Perhaps my brain's asleep today but I've gone round and round and can't find a way to get that information. I see an item on my wishlist is on sale then I can't get any further no matter what I do.
Thread: Is it just me?? (font changed?) | Forum: Community Center
You're welcome :-) I sometimes think that IE (and OE too!) just have a mind of their own and change things just to test us!
Thread: Is it just me?? (font changed?) | Forum: Community Center
I think it could be you as it looks just the same to me. These pages do have adjustable fonts though so you could have changed something. Are you using OE? If so try adding the font change icon to your toolbar (Rt. click | Customize | Add "Size" icon. That'll give you the option of 5 different sizes. HTH :-)

Thread: New Newsletter Format | Forum: Community Center
Thanks Lillian :-) Just looked at the resent Newsletter and it looks great. No red xs now. Sorry to have been so grumpy. I was in shock and felt bereft because this community means a lot to me.
Thread: Marketplace Wishlist improvements and more!!!! | Forum: Community Center
LOL I know I said I was going away until it was fixed. But I couldn't resist another look As the website designers do seem to be listening......... Thanks everyone :-) I really miss the proper descriptions of the products. All those words mashed together in tiny type without spacing are impossible to make any sense of. I really, really will miss all the live links through a thumbnail to Related Products when I buy something. I spend huge amounts that way. Buy them with the base product or add to my wishlist if I can't afford yet. I should be relieved they're not there! I may achieve solvency! hahahaha

What a mess the whole thing is! Pages aren't designed for 1280x1024 res so everythings small and squashed. Used to be perfect on the old site! This is a graphics based community of users therefore we don't use 800x 600!!!!!!! EVERYTHING was just great as it was. I just looked at my Wishlist. Everything mixed together, public & private. I have to say I just hate the whole lot of it and I'll not bother to buy anything for a while until they sort this mess out. I feel VERY negative and disappointed. Lots of red xs on the shopping pages, I don't know whether it's due to my firewall settings or their messups. I really can't be bothered to spend my time troubleshooting it. Yawn. If it ain't broke don't fix it would have been a good mantra to follow. Going to play with poser and forget the whole mess. I hope the vendors complain when their sales drop!!!!!! The renderosity shopping experience was always great before, much better than at Daz as far as I'm concerned. Now Renderosity have gone down the same drain. What a pity!
Thread: New Newsletter Format | Forum: Community Center
Well the newsletter format could be good if only it weren't littered with red xs. Boring!!!!!!
Pity that the new pages that it links to on the site for the products aren't designed for my resolution of 1280x1024!
They look uncomfotable so small.
After all this is a community of people who use high resolutions as we do graphics.
I liked the old Renderosity pages much better.
Can't see any reason for the changes myself.
I always loved buying on Renderosity.
This changeover makes me uneasy :-((((
