How about making either an FBM or a PBM of the chest area and then transferring that morph to the clothes? I've had better results with that kind of work flow than I have with WW or anything else. Even the fitting room makes clothes explode on me. WW I just haven't been able to get a handle on and nothing PhilC seems to write or explain makes me get it any better.

Quote - Only ibl without an infinite look like a rainy day no ?
Depends on the ibl you're using and it's rotation in the scene. There's one that's at hdrlabs called Playa Sunset or something like that.. i've put the sun setting behind my character and it was beautifully shadowed and I had to put in a mesh light to fill in so you could see her face.. then i rotated it around so that it was behind the camera and you could see the glow of the setting sun in her eyes.
then i've used the desert highway set from hdrlabs and the sun in it was so harsh i had to use diffusers to reduce the glare..
a lot of it is about the quality of the ibl itself. most of the content providers(i'm not saying all.. just most) that release ibl lights for poser and studio are NOT photographers. the ones releasing the sets at hdrlabs are usually professional photographers who do nothing but work in hdr pictures.
on a side note.. got a new cell phone last night an LG F3. it's camera is capable of taking hdr panorama shots.. i just might have to play around some with it.

Quote - sIBL is very good - have used it in poser. but try explaining to users how to convert the sun position (poser infinite lite with altitude and azimuth) to UV-coords. fortunately the ones I used were always (u,v)=(0.66,0.33) or something obvious.
have never needed to use the sun with sibl in poser.. in fact.. if you use the sun light you're sort of defeating the purpose and working against yourself since the sphere used for the ibl blocks out the sunlight. ibl's are meant to be used to give realistic environmental lighting
Thread: a core understanding of Lux? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
One of my big issues with reality 3 was that a lot of the procedural textures that I used in the material room to customize different things was rarely translated into lux the way they looked in the mat room. now.. i've not tried all i have as I have nearly every set that ParrotDolphin, tabala and sveva have ever released; but, so far.. 3.1 has translated everything I've thrown at it perfectly.
i haven't really had the time to full stress-test R3.1 yet; but, I'd say Paolo has done a stellar job on this update.

"HDRI on bill's envsphere allows more realistic rendering than ordinary scene with default poser lites. it's the most advanced implementation of IBL in poser yet provided."
I know it was a couple days earlier than the reality 3.1 release; but, R3.1's integration with sIBL is probably the most advanced implementation(and easiest) of ibl in poser. I've not had the opportunity to use octane's ibl; but, I use ibl in nearly every render I create and R3.1's is the easiest and nicest looking(for me) to date.

Quote - I hate to be one of those internet guys who do this but reading through the thread )and the one linked to) it's starting to get to me....so I have to point out that every time you put light or lights or lighting at the end of IBL you are saying Image Based Light Lighting and Image Based Light Light or Image Based Light Lights. Wouldn't it be better to just say IBL and leave it at that?

EnglishBob.. fortunately.. I render with reality and luxrender so I can see results pretty fast. Materials don't start clearing up for a while.. but at least you can tell what the scene/character is going to look like almost instantly.

Have a pretty good start on City Block Eighteen.
Will be similar to Block Thirteen in that it will be all homes.
Here is a look at what I have on one side of the block.
As usual this is just a test render in 3D Studio Max 2014
Tom
I'm kind of curious to know what you use to model your houses? I"m an architecture student and use Revit extensively and am looking for an easy(ier) way to get my houses from Revit to Poser so that I can see what they look like when Reality and Luxrender get ahold of them.

Quote - No 'Wimmin' in this one, just a test image really.
Surprisingly difficult to get sea water to look like, well, sea water.
It is nice and black, but those waves still are far too smooth.
I tried to get a ripple in, like tiny waves IN or ON the larger ones, but so far didn't quite succeed.

Reality's procedural water surface didn't work at all in this case, so I modeled a mesh in Rhino using a grey scale map. To this (high res and subdivided) ondulating mesh I added a bump map in Reality with a much finer wave pattern, but in this render that did not give me the look I'm after. (the lighthouse and rock are merely there to help get a sense of the scale).
Any useful suggestions to improve it are welcome of course! : )
Cheers!
Erik
hmmm.. . a cheater way of making a workable realistic looking bump/dsp map would be to do a websearch for a overhead ocean wallpaper.. context fill anything in it that isn't water and then turn the results into a bump map.

Quote - Looking good! Do you have a link to the discussion at DAZ? I know one can use V4 maps with the help of a product in the DAZ store, but via Map Transfer Utility sounds good.
Doesn't take any extra produce to use V4 maps on V5 and above.. you just have to change the uv map settings in the material editor

I'm certainly happy some reality users have been posting pictures of Dawn. Certainly solidifies my decisions on her. She seems to be a good idea gone wrong. Who knows, maybe in four or five years she'll be as common as V4; but, I just don't have the spare cash to be an early-adopter or unpaid beta tester. I've been pretty quiet around her because I've gone back to using poser full-time since the release of R3 and Poser 2014. I had forgotten just how flexible and how much of a joy it was to work with V4 and Poser. Not to mention the thousands of dollars I have in V4 content. True, studio has its autofit and that was one of the selling points for me; but, now that there's the tighten/loosen fit morph tool as well as the droop morph tool, I doubt that I'll ever go back to studio unless they toss that idiotic d-form and go for more vertex morphing tools like poser has.
That being said.. I see plenty keeping the faith with the DS/R2.5/Lux route and am seeing a ton of fantastic renders on DA. For those of you who haven't used R3 yet; you're in for a treat.

Doc.. I'm using it exclusively now (that's why I've been silent in this thread for quite a while) and have been since about a week after PP2014 came out. I used poser for years so the re-learning it wasn't so hard; and it's been a blast. I'm back to just loving poser instead of having a love-hate relationship with it. I had gotten sucked into the genesis trap with studio and I'd forgotten just how versatile vicky is. No wonder the price on her hasn't dropped much on daz since she was released. As far as rendering goes.. luxrender is luxrender is luxrender. Doesn't seem to me what you set the scene up with, if reality is translating the materials and lux is rendering it, the results SHOULD be the same.
Where I come to a screeching halt sometimes is with the collection of materials that I have. I have nearly every material set made by tabala and parrotdolphin. Some of these use a pretty extensive node setup and reality just doesn't like them at all. A bit of tweaking (sometimes extensive tweaking) is needed to be done on a few other things as well. For example, for Mihrelle's Elena character, if you set a lipstick color and just let 'er rip, the lips will render out grey. I've yet to be able to get her lips to render the correct lipstick color either in studio OR poser.
On the plus side.... I have a pretty big collection of tattoos for vicky (shana's entire inked series as well as some ones I custom-made myself) and these are a breeze to apply with reality's color math ability. I'm a material room novice so all of my own tatts I applied to the figure's original texture and just saved a copy. Don't have to do that any more. Just apply to the right material zone via color math/multiply. Set the color to the full white background that's used on the tatts material and let 'er rip. I did this with Kymber in the Studio and Nude 015. I haven't gotten into it yet, but in reality you can even use the u and v offset to move those tatts around on the body.
I was a poser hater for the entire time I was using studio.. and I understand that I'm being rather fickle.. but I'm loving poser right now. At least until they do something to break it. Fortunately SM isn't as prone to break their products as Daz is.

Quote - > Quote - For mw, the issue with Dawn is going to be the availability of outfits, are the products just going to be a re-hash of items already availaible for V4 and G1? Is she going to have an autofit or convert option for V4 things? Or do you have to purchase a complete range of clothing, morphs and textures?
While I have no special connections with the Dawn product it is important to remember how the market is going to be affected by Poser 10 new Fitting Room. That feature is going to change the market for both Poser and Studio users alike.
If you're note familair with it, the Fitting Room allows anybody to fit any garment to any figure while preserving rigid shapes (buttons, collars, belts etc) and the original morphs. The result is a new conforming garment that fits the new figure. The whole operation takes a few minutes and makes it possible for the authors of the original clothing to expand their offering to any new figure.
It is expected that existing products will be updated to take advantage of new figures.
Personally I believe that Dawn is the best development that happened in the market since the introduction of V4. I'm looking forward to working with it.
Cheers.
My thing with the whole poser fitting room is that it's huuuuuge for poser users. I'm one of the fastest people I know with learning and mastering new software or new tweaks to existing software that I use and I'm finding it cumbersome and hard to figure out. I can't find any decent documentation on what does what. As a former chef.. I found with cooking that (other than spices) any time you have more than five ingredients in a dish the chances for collossal errors increases exponentially with each additional ingredient. This philosophy has applied to software as well. With the fitting room.. I get out my milk, eggs and sugar and then I'm at a complete loss as to what to do with them. I'm desperately awaiting some kind poser super-user to make some decent comprehensive tutes for the fitting room. Until then, the loosen fit/tighten fit brushes are indispensible.

Quote - > Quote - I can't tell you that. Nobody can. There will be a lot of announcements on August 9th. It's just one month away.
The base figure will be free.
Cheers.
Yeah I know if thats the case i will most likely pass I have boat load of content as it is but I will get R3....
Off topic a bit.. but that's why I'm REALLY loving poser 2014. With the tighten and loosen fit morph brushes.. I can put anything on anything.. been using a lot of my older Aiko3 and V3 stuff with V4 lately and loving it. It's a bit more work than studio's autofit.. but there's so much more flexibility. I can now make clothes fit like they're supposed to a lot easier than with d-form. I mentally thank Paolo every time I load up a new character for putting that particular bug in my ear. Otherwise my using poser again would have lasted about a week. Even my wife is finding it pretty easy to use.

sarge.. afaik it doesn't work with reality 2.5. seems that it should when R3 for studio comes out. haven't tried to use the wet skin shaders for poser that i have with it yet.. haven't done a render yet with poser that i thought it would look good on
