I think it also depends on what you are used to. I have painter classic (came with my wacom) and though I have toyed with it, the feel of it is funny after years of photoshop. When in painter, I am constantly asking myself.. "Now how do I do this like I can in Photoshop?" Because of this, I have hesitated in actually buying the beefed up full version. I am so addicted to the smudge tool in Photoshop! In my opinion, PS tends to be much more responsive to the pressure of my pen, but that could be because I am a lamer when it comes to Painter. Blow by blow, you can probably list pros and cons of both and come up with some interesting information, but if you can't use the program comfortably, neither one is going to work. My true opinion is that the person who can pull the best out of both programs is probably the real winner in the debate.

Ever see Bob Ross do his landscape magic with those 2" brushes to make his "happy little flower right here" Well.. I got a two inch scruffed up brush and looked.. well it just makes spots that sometimes blends with the underlying paint and sometimes doesnt. So you render a cloud, then you do a difference cloud render... and then you fade it (sometimes a lot of times to get the real scruff) then you make a selection of the most interesting part of it and voila! make that a brush. I used my bob ross book that I keep telling my mom I lost as an idea on what colors to use and how to place what where. It amazingly works a lot like oils. That background is my dabbing my scruffy brushes all over the canvas using the various colors.

Thank you for your help. Now for one more quick question. Does DPI make a difference? I downloaded the program, made a template. I was going to take some of the stuff I have (florals and laces) in a different dpi and put it on the skirt. If I go down that low in dpi, I am afraid that I will really lose some details.
