I am sorta relieved to see this post, NOT for you all going through this of course not, but for my own sanity. I posted on this a month or so ago when first go Poser 8. Noone understood and SmithMicro told me that I installed Poser 8 wrong. Figured it out on my own to put the runtime files in with the Poser content folder in Documents.
Now I have just got a new puter and reloaded everything, made sure to choose right option to install Poser 8, wanting to use external for runtimes. Well it did the same thing, cannot load textures etc... Yeah, what a hassle. Put everything in same Poser content folder which btw went into public documents again.
Am not going to mess with renaming them all, not until SR1 comes out and see if a fix is made. Works for now. Though I wanted them on external. Hang in there hopefully they will fix this. :)

Thanks for the update, sorry I could not be of more help. I agree on the poor quality control considering Vista is mainstream now and so is 64bit. It upsets me to no end they cannot make a program that runs properly on this machine without a lot of hassle on our part installing and placing it.
Glad ya got it though, perhaps this will help others. Yep, that is why I could not get textures..once I moved my runtime to the "public" folder which I HATE..it works fine! Go figure!

Make sure when you install Poser 8 you use the option in the beginning for Vista UAC. Also a friend had problems with her firewall blocking and not allowing certain things to run. I do not remember what her firewall was, but it is something you might want to check.
I have installed Poser 8 with Vista UAC and no problems with that part. The only two problems I am having is no textures or mat files are loading with either pz2s or cr2s or props. Still trying to figure that one out. Have ticket into Smith Micro but they are baffled as well. Hmmmm Also when loading more than one figure it wants to crash on me.
Am sure someone with more experience can help you better, just things I have found with mine.:)

Thanks very much to all of you. I am running Vista Home Premium 64 bit with 8 gigs too. Guess will install it along with Poser Pro and run side by side to see. Will also give my review of how it goes when I get in all installed. Will keep an eye out here in the forums as well. Once again thank you, I appreciate it.

I did not ask the question, but am glad I looked as it was something I have been wanting to know..I understand the concept, and want to put them on another drive as well. Thank you for explaining this so well ..it is MUCH appreciated!! Now off to see if I can do this..
May I ask one more thing, it is same subject. I am working with Poser 7 but should be same, I was able to direct poser 7 to my poser 6 runtime, no problem. Now, I am considering taking poser 6 off puter, can I just copy them as well to the new runtime I will be making and just uninstall the program then?
UGH I am sorry I am NOT literate on this matter and sorry if I am not explaining myself well, I do not pretend to know much bout any of this.
Thank you again for all your help!!
