Thread: Low Turnout - The Bryce Challenge | Forum: Bryce
In light of this recent development, I'll hold off sending out those cyanide pills then!
Gives me a chance to finish off my entry too - I was scuppered by computer troubles very late in the day, I suspect a mole somewhere in the organisation. Probably that new buxom young secretary with an eye for hunky government employees - beginning to wish I hadn't told her all my plans now...

Ha ha, no - put whatever you like in it.
The henchmen thing was just a general employment policy guideline. As the escapades of Mr Bond have shown us time and time again, if you hire a second rate workforce then all those carefully laid plans usually come to nothing.
Here at R.E.N.D.O. we pride ourselves on providing quality nefarious deeds and criminality - you'll find none of that common low-rent thuggery here.
Go forth and concur... no...conquer! I mean conquer!
*fumbles for the knockout-gas switch...

Subject to approval of course, the next challenge theme will be:
I am a James Bond villain!
You are the worlds No.1 criminal mastermind, you've plotted, schemed and back stabbed your way to the top. Stromberg, Blofeld and Auric Goldfinger are but bungling amateurs compared to you! You've amassed your wealth and devised the perfect plan for world domination – all you need now is a secret base to operate from before that pesky secret service agent shows up to throw a Walther PPK in the works...
That then is aim of this challenge... design your very own Bond villain super-base!
Think shark pools, missile silos, monorails and high-backed comfy swivel chairs so you can do that swivelling round to greet people thing! Go nuts, after all you're a complete and utter madman....er...genius...!
It can be either an interior or exterior render, but please bear in mind that a secret base hidden away under a mountain is just a mountain – so make sure that there is enough surface structure visible to identify it as your secret base. (Just pretend it's invisible to radar or something!). A brief explanation of your bases capabilities would also be greatly appreciated – if you have an exploding loo tell us about it please!
Imports, nukes, extortion allowed.
No Post work, adaptive camouflage or dim witted henchmen.
Runners up will be issued with cyanide pills - you know the price of failure, Number One....

Blimey, wasn't expecting that... er... slightly embarrassed now but thanks! Good job to everyone else who entered, it's heart warming to see I'm not the only Bryce user with a warped imagination - I guess it kinda does that to folk!
Anyway, I'll get my thinking cap on and I'll pop back later today with the next challenge... come on brain, think!

Thread: Decline in Bryce Challenge entries. | Forum: Bryce
While it's great that people have all these ideas I think you need to be careful about imposing too many rules and regulations - as soon as people have to start jumping through x number of hoops they won't bother and it'll just drive them away.
Perhaps the simplest (or least intrusive), way to retain the 'essence' of Bryce in a render would be to do away with postwork (much like this months challenge). At least that way you're using Bryce to set the tone, lighting and ambience of the scene rather than relying on image editing software to achieve it.
Maybe even shift the focus of the challenges from learning Bryce to just having fun with it - if you're having fun the learning side of it will just happen anyway and you're more likely to participate in the challenge. Everybody wins!

Quote - *When a person dies, hearing is the last sense to go. The first sense lost is sight."*I guess this means when people die in a hospital setting they can hear the doctor pronounce them dead along with the sounds of their family members standing in the room..
Or, if you're really unlucky, switching on the gas at the crematorium!

Think I've just answered your question and damned myself in the process - nice one Starbeef... :m_laugh:

Thread: Bryce is DEAD | Forum: Bryce
This is an extract from Rashad Carters post taken from page 5 of the above thread, and the reason I believe that Bryce really isn't dead:
*"So yes, more info would be great. But then again, the info they have already provided...that there is a certain bug fix on the way... and Elisagroup (A company hired by Daz) stated in this same thread I believe that new features were also in the works, but nothing specific was stated.
Edit: from page 2 of this thread:
ElisaGroup wrote: We have just completed working on the universal Studio wrapper for Bryce (like the Carrara 7 one). The existing wrapper was built for a particular version of the DAZ Studio. The new one is able to detect Studio installations and let the user to choose the one to bridge to. Currently it only works on PC, and we need to implement the Mac version also. I think Daz3D will announce about that, as soon as it gets out of the hands of testers.
Then we are going to start a feature work, that is, Bryce 7 work. That is going to be a long process. Hopefully, DAZ3D will issue intermediate versions.
There you have it. A definitive statement from a company hired by Daz to develop Bryce, that Bryce 7 WILL BE RELEASED."*
I think this allows for a little cautious optimism at the very least?
Thread: Bryce is DEAD | Forum: Bryce
Perhaps you could post a link to the official Daz statement saying that they've stopped the development of Bryce, you seem to have access to some concrete evidence that the rest us here have yet to see. Please share it with us then we can all agree that you're right, because currently what you're saying doesn't add up - if Bryce is genuinely dead then why channel time and resources in to a bug fix, why not just leave it as is and spend the money on software they're actively developing like Carrara or DS? It's just not a sound business plan to me. I mean just recently I had to scrap my car (sniff...), I didn't pay to get it fixed up and repaired before scrapping it, it went to the great car park in the sky as it was, so I'm guessing that Daz may have something in mind other than putting it out to pasture.
