Thread: Friday DAZ is Down Hard! | Forum: DAZ|Studio
I'm back in. Yeah, you'd think a hard refresh would work, but nossir.
Seems weird, but it took cache, cookies and restart.
Hard refresh failed. The page's own link did nothing. Cache+restart didn't work.
No idea why I needed to clear the Daz cookies, in this case... but whatever works.

Huh, got a topic reply email. But Firefox sees outage pages, regardless of the link.
IE gets in, so it looks like it's time to clear the ol' cache & cookies again...

Looks like they took it down for the night. Probably get it back mid-morning or afternoon, their time.

Huh, Winrar doesn't have any problem with the un-repaired downloads of the Studio Beta 4.5.
Good news. Besides the ability to repair them, you can use 3DContentDownloader to skip the corruption entirely (along with it's usual benefits).

Techically, they aren't "...Beyond All Repair". Fusterclucked site, notwithstanding.

The site has been up and down since about 7:00 am. It hasn't been down for very long, at a time, though.
Starts with the Magento error message, then goes to the green alien.
No idea how long this outage will last.

They're back up, at least for the moment.
Doh! That's the same thread, in both links, duh. (Merged thread with "please see this thread. Yeah, still stupid, or as I prefer to call it, "hurried").

**.

This is due to server problems.
Error messages get appended to the ends of downloaded files.
Likely also the cause of Antivirus false positives, on some files. (Such as ManleyStanley reported, in that other thread).
Kendall Sears has written a utility to fix it. It can also be manually fixed with a hex editor.
I'll assume it's ok to post links, to the two threads at Daz Forums:
This page, of this thread, has the utility:
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewthread/217/P60
This is another thread:
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewthread/217/
And Daz just shut down for the blowtorches and cranes... Let's hope they're stomping this bug, now.

Oops, posting didn't subscribe me.
Yer welcome. Hope that helps.
On Firefox it's:
Tools->Options->Advanced->Network->"Cached Web Content"->"Clear Now" button.
and
Tools->Internet options->remove individual cookies. Type "Daz" in the search box. Shift-highlight all the ones from "daz3d.com" and forum.daz3d.com. "Remove Cookies" button.
On IE, it looks like your only choice is:
Tools->Internet Options->General->Browsing History "Delete temporary files, history, cookies, saved passwords, and web form information".
Yeesh, that seems drastic. I thought it used to give you a little finer control.

In my case, I have to log out at the store, or my account, to log into the forum. (I have a tab open in each).
Have you cleared your cache, deleted your Daz cookies, and restarted your browser?
Since the store is working with one Browser, could you try another for the forum?

You dooon't.............have............to live like a refugee.
..................................................Don't have to live like a refugeee.
But now that I've hung out here, I like it, and will try not to be a stranger.
"No, please, be a stranger."
Who's going to make the first "Thanks for all the fish" reference?

Quote - With regard to the installers, I don't know what's up. What I do know is that people have complained about their AV giving them a warning with some DAZ installers. I've seen first-hand what happens when I've installed from the older installers, the one's that are red with a round DAZ logo and a Z. I already provided the URLs to the previous sites that were, potentially, collecting the info. Now, either the information was being gleaned in order to provide personal information so DAZ could track who is installing their products and/or for marketting purposes. Doesn't matter, what does matter is that if they were collecting personal information, they should have informed their customers first.
Too bad noone can name files. But that narrows it down. If it's all of those, then it should be easy to find one. :-)
That is curious behavior, alright. For the first time, ever, I kinda wish I had Windows 7, so I could see it.
Personally, I strongly doubt if it means anything nefarious.
Spyware is something that (I feel) should be opposed. And if doubts are raised, I'd like to see the security experts check it out. They can settle the matter.
Jazzmin wrote:> Quote - Is this the type of climate you maintain in the DAZ forums?
Pretty much. :-) When things get too heated, and personal, then silly off-topic joking often commences. It's a defusing tactic which attempts to ease the tensions, and stave off severe moderation. (more to follow)

Quote - Do you make fun of people for daring to question the almighty DAZ?
I can see why you'd ask that.
I'm sorry you got criticized, and lumped in with some others. I see that you consider other explanations, which kinda sets you apart from some others who've raised their concerns. I don't hold it against you that you have suspicions.
If you look back through this thread, you see a lot of jumping to conclusions, and sticking to them regardless. A lot of proclamations about Daz's intentions were made. (The OP, while a helpful & knowledgeable curmudgeon, over there, is known for a tendency to stick to his initial opinions. He has a certain level of frustration with the company's tendencies, and, well... sometimes extrapolates...).
Someone noticed that it had evolved to be indistinguishable from an argument on a conspiracy-theory site. So a parody was made.
I found it funny. But since a parody could conceivably be met with anger, it was followed with a lot of off-topic sillieness.
And now we're here. Sorry again, try not to take it personally. Gets crazy when we're around, sometimes.
Bet Rendo will be happy to get a lot of us back where we can be... you know, giving ulcers to moderators who are used to it. ;-)
