Thanx!
Now if only I could figure out how to get that text to show up in my Poser...
it obviously has something to do with
:runtime:ui:Dlg_SaveCompoundFigure.xml
or more specifically in that file:
<Widget name="messageStatic" command="0" widgetProcID="3" widgetText="1049:1" isStringID="1" ...
<Widget name="messageStatic2" command="0" groupID="10" widgetProcID="3" widgetText="1049:2" isStringID="1" ...
.. grrr

Quote - The next thing is to get a nice texture because the one
that comes with M4 has painted on shorts. It works good
to use the gens sticking out of the shorts for those times
when you really ain't got time to drop the shorts and just
get it on. Most likely will have to buy a good texture. I'm
looking for one now.
M4 base comes with a texture that doesn't include the shorts.

Quote - The M4 gens seem to be a new model, I haven't looked that closely.
Careful, wouldn't want to poke an eye out. ;)
Quote - There is a separate installer for the gens, I don't remember if that is included with the free base version or if it came with the Morphs++ package.
Genitals don't come with the base version.
For that matter, V4.2 base textures have no nipples or pubic hair, but M4 base textures do have pubes and nips. Go figure.

Coax Mike out of his briefs:
Materials > Skin Hip > Poser Surface > Color Texture > Image_Source
Choose "/Runtime/Textures/DAZ/Characters/MilMan/M4/M4Smpl_malebody.jpg" instead of "/Runtime/Textures/DAZ/Characters/MilMan/M4/M4Smpl_brief.jpg"
Of course, it may be a little disturbing for some to see him that way...
Thread: Poser 7 render speed benchmarks | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hardware: Dual 2.5GHz PowerPC, 2GB RAM, ATI 9600XT
Mac OS X 10.4.7
CPU - Test P5 (400x400px)
Render time: 1:26 (Separate process, 4 Threads, Bucket size 32)
Render time: 1:17 (Separate process, 2 Threads, Bucket size 32)
And since I normally use a big bucket size:
Render time: 1:11 (Separate process, 4 Threads, Bucket size 256)
Render time: 1:12 (Separate process, 2 Threads, Bucket size 256)
Interesting.
CPU - Test P5 (800x800px)
Render time: 1:51 (Separate process, 4 Threads, Bucket size 256)

Thanx for the replies. :)
I decided to submit to the inevitable and grabbed P7. :tongue1:
Here is what I've found so far:
I am extremely pleased.
Quote - Has anyone done render/performance benchmarks on the Mac? They are claiming "Native Intel Mac support generates a 300% performance boost on the latest Apple hardware compared to Poser 6. "--- but what about multiprocessor PowerPC systems? Any improvements?
The render speeds on my dual G5 are pretty amazing so far.
Quote - Have stability/interface bugs been addressed in the latest release?
Yes!
Quote - Why on earth does the render window/interface disappear when I switch to a different program, so that I have no clue as to the progress of my background renders?
Fixed.. finally! :biggrin::woot::biggrin:
I can see the renders whilst in other apps, and the dock icon render progress bar is a nice touch, too.
Quote - Why can I not click on the Poser interface background to switch back to Poser most of the time, having to click on the dock icon to get back to Poser? and what's with the bizarre minimize behavior?
Still not 100% of the time, but much improved.
Quote - Why can I not save external morph targets without Poser 6 crashing, causing me to lose the ability to open these .pz3 files without crashing Poser on launch?
Haven't tested this fully in P7, yet.
Quote - Why is Poser 6 the ONLY program that can totally lock up my system, forcing a hard reboot?
So far P7 seems pretty stable. We'll see what happens when I start messing with huge files, and a massive runtime.
Quote - Why are there 2 and a half year old(!!) .psd files in the Poser 6 ui folder, some of which are not even being used by the program?!? (see "Poser 6/Runtime/ui/renderOptionsDlog.psd")
They've re-written P7 so that the app is a proper bundle. The Poser folder is finally nice and clean-- we no longer have to look at .dll files.
Although the ui folder still has lots of files, it looks like they may have gotten rid of the unused ones, and at least the ui files have new modification dates. (and no sign of "Poser 7/Runtime/ui/renderOptionsDlog.psd")
Quote - Why does an area render include an outline in the image, making this functionality useless for tweaking and saving final renders without re-rendering the entire image?
When I saw that the area render marquee had changed, I was hopeful on this one... but the area render outlines remain. =/
Quote - Why does the program still use Mac OS 9 Finder icons?
Finally fixed. Yay!
Quote - ***...I'm just of the opinion that new versions of programs should be better than previous versions.
shrug... perhaps my expectations are too high for my beloved Poser?***
Heheh... P7 feels like what P4 should have been.
The included content is incredible. The new figures are quite nice.
Quote - Decides to shut up and render
Goes to play

The Penguin speaketh wisely. I can't imagine that any right-thinking individual would prejudge P5X based on P5Win user's experiences. Consider: Bryce 2 for Windows was the buggiest, hardly useable, most craptacular piece of sh^h^h garbage to ever exist. Bryce 2 for Mac was arguably the best version of Bryce for ANY platform EVAR. I've been using P5X since I downloaded it Thursday morning, and so far... (very minor niggles aside) I've found it to be a compelling upgrade from P4. See the thread coffee linked to. Of course, ymmv. If I gave a crap about politics, I never would have switched to the clearly superior Internet Explorer 5 from Netscape 4.7 back in the day. I use Mozilla now. ;)

Stephan, Thanx.... your site is why I upped the bucket size in the first place. =) >if you have a GB RAM or so, use at least 64 or more. I have 640MB RAM and use a bucket size of 64 most of the time, if not 96. As I said, I have 1.5GB RAM, and am using 128 bucket size. Works great. I'll try really cranking it up later. I assume the bucket size is in Megabytes of RAM? xvcoffee: Whew! I'm glad I stayed outta that thread! Poser 5 X continues to impress me, so far. >>...found out a few things that P5 won't be able to handel on the OSX Haven't found any yet.

Cris, I'm sure you've seen MartinC's post at PoserPros regarding Maconverter, but for others: http://www.poserpros.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=14693

I said: >Rendering is slower than P4 - even using Poser 4 rendering style. (Draft Quality, No shadows, Ignore shader trees) Using Firefly, I set the Bucket size to 128, Production quality, disp. maps. Rendering is now as fast, or faster than Poser 4. I'll add other options and check the impact. I wonder how high the bucket size can be cranked? Cris, my comments about the disappearing document window were based on Poser 5-- and since quitting and relaunching P5, I haven't seen that bug again. Maconverter is still OS 9 only. I believe I've had to use it less since switching to OS X, and most of the time, simply opening a PC .obj file in BBEdit and re-saving it with Unix line breaks can help. Cris said: > Though the one thing I do not like is if you choose to save, for instance, a skin node to the Materials Library, it insists on saving any loaded map even if the node is not connected. Hmmm... if the node is not connected, why would you not delete it before saving? I haven't messed with materials too much yet, so I don't know if my question makes sense.

The only item on your list that I ever experienced with Poser 4 (Mac) was: >Keeping textures no longer used. Re-launching Poser took care of that, though. With the new materials room in P5, I can't imagine that this is a problem anymore. Sorry I can't address the other things.
