Quote - TikiGawd, When you say global settings, you're referring to the video card's global settings, not Poser, correct?
Actually, I should have said "Program Settings".
Here's a screenshot, in case anyone needs clarification.

I'm not sure, musikman, but I'm pretty sure the ATI driver settings should have an application profile system similar to nvidia's. It (probably) couldn't hurt to try, though. I've never owned a modern ATI card, so I can't say for certain.

I just returned to the Poser world a couple days ago from a ~5 month hiatus. After installing SR3 I encountered problems similar to those mentioned above. Mainly, after opening a scene and rotating the camera a bit, Poser would stop responding and I'd have to kill it. After going through a few hoops in an attempt to fix the problem, I recalled I'd had a similar problem with Poser 7... I checked my rendo forum post history and found my old solution here.
Seems to have fixed my problems so far. Hope this help!.

Thread: So... any other way to make P8's library work better? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I feel your pain.
The best (free) advice I can give you is, before you close poser, collapse all the library folders to the top level. That way, when you open poser again, I'll finish loading a little quicker. However, when you expand a library again, it'll read through it, building folder counts. Just wait for it to finish then go about your business. It'll still be a bit of a chore to work with at first.
The best (non-free) advice I can give you is to grab a copy of D3D's XL Library script. It's not a perfect solution (you can't undo anything you add from the library with it, you'll have to manually delete) but it's a hell of a lot faster than poser's library.
What I'd like to know is; is it really necessary to count folder items? Does knowing how many things are in a particular folder increase poser's usefulness in any substantial way? Is there some technical reason for that? If so, can't the reading of folder contents be delayed until the folder is accessed?
I recall bagginsbill mentioning a proposed change in the library function along the lines of storing library contents in a database, that would greatly increase library performance, but that sounds like it mike take a while to materialize. Here's to hoping for changes for the better in SR3.

Wow, the library is nice and quick, now.
Time to read Pose library: SR1: 5min 15sec. SR2: 35sec...
Whoever fixed that: T H A N K Y O U !

Thread: Given a series of jpg, how to create an avi file? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Actually, you don't need to convert to bik first.
In RAD Tools, browse to the location of your image files. If they're numbered sequentially (img_0001-360, etc), select the first image and click the 'List Files' button. You'll get a popup asking if you want to treat the sequence as a single animation, click yes. A list editor will pop up, check to make sure the list is in the correct order (an auto generated sequential list will look like 'img_????.ext*1-360'), save the list in the same folder as your image files (the lst file will appear in RAD Tools browse window).
Select the lst file, click the 'Convert a file' button. The converter has a ton of options. If you just want to make a simple avi, all you need to do is tell it the frame rate you want (in the 'Force (no adding or removing) to:' box), select the output type, give it a name and click the convert button. Another popup will appear allowing you to choose from among the codecs that are installed on your machine. Select the one you want, click ok.
However, my personal suggestion would be to use virtualdub, wolf359 as mentioned above. It's very powerful and not TOO hard on newbies.

Quote - Well, I just had another crash last night after adding something to one of my libraries and then refreshing.
I get this occasionally.
Quote - The library also frequently freezes Poser 8. The freezes only happen when I am using the library. I can't do anything in Poser for 30 seconds to 1.5 minutes.
Ditto.
Quote - Even with these problems, version 8, SR1 is an improvement in most ways over past versions.
More ditto. When P8 works, it works great, except when it doesn't, then it's not so great.

I dunno if anyone has reported this yet or not, but it appears that the 'vanishing library items' bug is still around.
I just noticed it when adding an item to my Materials library. The new mat collection didn't appear right away so I collapsed the folder and refreshed it. Item count went from 78 to 35.
Also, just before that happened, I noticed that the delete button disappeared when selecting a mat collection icon but showed up again when I selected a single material icon.

Quote - Collapse all Folders is already on the enhancement list - probably will be in SR2.
Awesome!
Quote - I'm also thinking of an option to have Poser save the folders contents it has opened to an XML file.
Double awesome!

Quote - Beta testers had 500+GB of content and had no problems with P8 reading them.
Yargh! And I thought I felt like a pig with ~50GB...
Quote - But with all folders closed, how long does it take to initally populate the trees? And can you give me an idea of these counts - order of magnitude? Like are there any over 500? Are there are lot over 500?
It takes about 3 minutes to completely count all top level items. Figures, Poses and Props are all around 700 items, the rest are all between 100 and ~180.
After doing a little experimenting, completely collapsing all libraries to the the top before closing does seem to fix the wall of question marks issue.

Sorry, didn't mean to confuse you.
I didn't do a wholesale copy when I migrated from p7 to p8, I just copied the Geometries, Libraries, and Textures folder to the P8 installation folder BEFORE I installed P8 (that's how I've migrated with every version since P4).
