This was a Spiralizer spiral with a stone column "inserted" into it? Looks easy.

I've created (or tried to) lots of .DXF objects with Elefont. I don't know what's going on under the hood, but it seems like 2 out of 3 times, the .DXF will crash Bryce immediately upon import. Has anybody else seen this? Any workarounds? Am I doing something stupid? Any advice would be helpful.

Wow! I checked that out. Thanks for the tip. Looks good. Hope it works better for me than Elefont has, though-- that's been hit-and-miss.

Booleans would work for the crescents, if we're both thinking along the same lines, but you'll probably want to check out the Multi-Replicate feature for ropes, chains, and the like. The multi-replicate tool seems to have been designed with that pretty much in mind.
