Thread: Hair in Photoshop cs 2 | Forum: Photoshop
By the way, there are many many tutorials out there in the Photoshop tutorial in Renderosity site alone, as a matter of fact probably one of the more popular subject to write a tutorial. Yes, if you decide to take the route of just using photoshop, can be quite challenging but the result and the painting skills you aquired after doing it is worth the hard work. Think of it as an exercise and give it a go :)) Enjoy.
Thread: rough cloth | Forum: Photoshop
Err, I think is where the rest of filter is. :P The preset pattern or rather texture helps to define the general background of the fabric. To enhance the realism, ie roughness of the material, sharpen it a little after using gradient map to enhance the shades of the weaving. Since the material is rough, of course light reflection is minimal, a dull colour might help. But then that is just what I will try on a 2D picture. Not sure if that is your intention and I am sure there is a better way out there which give better results. Hope this help a little.
Thread: I can't find a tutorial I need. | Forum: Photoshop
Yep, tutorials are good, but if you want to follow step by step instruction to make something like a light ray, may be is easier to look for an action in photoshop to do just that. But the most satisfying experience is still when you discover your own technic by experimenting. :)) Me personally, I found blending mode ( colour dodge ) most useful when it comes to imitating lights.
Thread: LCD Specs | Forum: Photoshop
I have not tried out all monitors so I cannot give out a review. However according to my understanding, if your company is a newspaper publisher, the issue of colour matching is not as important as say a fashion magazine. From a business point of view, the investment you made on the monitor will have to suit its purpose at the machines lifecycle, hope I am using the right phase. As from the photographer's point of view, the larger their screen, the better. Less strain on their eyes to begin with. Since the output of the final product will be on print( newspaper ), more than likely the colour will not be the same as the one they see on the monitor anyway. I would go for the larger screen size with decent gamut level. Ok, after boring you with all this. May I suggest you to have a look at the Lacie web site. They do a fine range of professional monitor plus more, oh they also do calibration kits too in case you need it. Good luck.
Thread: web page header | Forum: Photoshop
Sorry, considering this is a photoshop forum I automatically assume you use photoshop, if the site is already loaded in your computer dreamweaver directory, it might actually be easier to use Firework to resize. Just a thought........
Thread: web page header | Forum: Photoshop
Hmm..........wouldn't it be nice if life is so easy lol. May be one day. I guess first you must find out or decide what size of header you want. How or more precisely if you are designing a new site from scratch, the approach you take towards it. In your case my guess is your friend has a page already and there is either a blank space or a header in place which you want to replace. In this case since the page layout and property is set, you just have to find out the size ( pixel count ) of the old header, from there resize the header you made to fit into that space. However if you want to replace a header with a different size, work out the size you want first then slice it in photoshop for best result. Good luck...........
Thread: problem opening photoshop | Forum: Photoshop
Hmm, first you must click on the warning message to get rid or it before you can enter photoshop, but I am sure you have done that already. Yes, in order to change the scratch disk you have to access the part you mentioned, however that won't change anything until you open photoshop next time. But whether you change your scratch disk or not has nothing to do with the reason your menu bar being inactive. I suspect your photoshop is corrupted. Now you make me very curious what happen to the program. Somebody out there please help us !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thread: POSTER QUALITY .... | Forum: Photoshop
There are many things to consider when it comes to printing as everyone will tell you. The resolution of 300ppi is pretty much standard as most printer's machine is set up for that. However that does not mean the actual print will have 300 dpi. All depends on how large of a poster you wanted. Bearing in mind the larger the print, the further away will the audience stand to get a full view of it. Other things to consider of course is colour matching, which is also the most difficult part to achieve in printing. You will need to talk to your printer, say offset printing, to get a PPF of the machine they intend to use. This file contains the information of that machinery regarding all complicated setting and you can download most of this PPF from Adobe site. Also ask them about the colour management settings and they should be able to advise you. Ok, may be I am boring you now. The last thing to consider is file format, PDF is most popular, then EPS, handy but make sure you have all your linked files in one folder and properly named ( keep the spot colour on a seperate channel ). Oh don't forget to use outline for your fonts if there is anyway if you are using PDF file. Hope this helps.........

After you install it, when you get this message does that mean you can actually open the program again? This warning message should have been displayed the first time you ran your program before the re-installation. Well, if you can run photoshop now, then there is nothing to worry about. Follow Tihomir's advise, one thing to bear in mind is for best result, the drive ( whether physical or partition ) for scratch disk and your operation system should be different. Hope this helps a little :)
