Was just going to mention that Stonemason has an updated version of The Back Alley.
I don't know if that would make any difference.

TG,
On a long shot, under usersadmin, do you have a shortcut directory named Application Data?
If so, is there a Poser8.0?
As an aside, Vista32 here, I just did a file search for poser.ini and the P8 ini didn't show up in the search. P6, P7, and Poser Pro ini's show up, but the P8 ini doesn't.

ScreeD :-)
I use ScreeD a lot, mainly because it speeds up the display. I use an old Nvidia card that is rock solid in Open GL, but slow.
With P8 I had to make sure the program opens in OpenGL by setting Poser.ini to read-only.
For me, if the program launches in ScreeD, it will freeze if I select a 3 or 4 port view.
If it launches in OpenGL, I can switch to ScreeD and it will work normally.
Gone back to Poser Pro for now, I do miss morphing across body parts, but not enough to put up with losing 15 minutes worth of work here, a half hour there, etc.

Oops, that's just like V3, however doesn't A3 have an extra material zone on each leg?
Edit: nevermind, I just noticed that they're named differently is all.

Another thing. Daz accounts are tied to your email accounts. And I used a different email address to order the Hex upgrade from Eovia than the one used for my Daz account.
Daz evidently used the Eovia email address from my upgrade to make a new account.
Try this. Go to Daz and log in using the email address you used with Eovia. Enter anything in for the password, because you don't have one yet.
This will bring up an error screen and give you a 'recover password' link. Follow the directions in the email to get your account operational.
When you access your new account you should find your $100 voucher and your PC membership will be operational for this new account.
This is how it worked for me with the $99 upgrade from Hex 1 to 2.

Quote - "In the end the software won't be worth anything because it was more or less given away." So is this where we are? The worth of any given software relates directly to the price tag put on it? I know that this is a prevelant attitude. Maybe it is an attitude that needs to be re-examined.
I meant hard dollar value. In the last three months I've spent nearly $700 on Eovia products.
I'm not complaining, because the software will still do everything I paid for, and I never sell old software anyway. I just use it till it's no longer usable and then uninstall it. But you have to admit that the "street value" of Hex just dropped.

It'll be like Shade LE and Poser. Everyone will download it, make a few cubes and balls, then pretty much forget it. On the other hand, there will probably be a few talented modelers that emerge out of this.
In the end the software won't be worth anything because it was more or less given away.

Thread: Hexagon resaved obj file size problem | Forum: Carrara
Export normals makes no difference. If I import, for example, blMilWom.obj (around 5 meg) into Hex using default settings (uvs and normals checked), and export the file using hex, the file size was 142 meg. If I export with 'Merge equal uvs' checked, the file size is around 38 meg. If I save the hex file as a .car, open in Carrara, then export as .obj with no material, the file size is around 6 meg, which is reasonable. Not good, but reasonable. I haven't had Hex long enough, or had enough time to fool with it very much- but I seem to remember having problems texturing in Carrara if I exported a Hex file as .obj. Seems like I had to save as .car to get it to work right. Hope I'm not rambling here.

Hmmm, if you save as a .car, open it in Carrara and export as .obj with Materials turned off, the file size is pretty close to the original.

If you check "Merge equal uvs" it will cut the file size to about a third. Still unacceptable.

That's what I hate about this stuff. I just bought Hex on Jan 20th of this year. Too bad, so sad, and I'll have to pay nearly as much to upgrade as I paid for Hex to begin with. Hell, I'll probably do it, I just get tired of it.
