OK I see how it works. For some reason earlier the files did not come up when I clicked on my order number. Perhaps I need to wait awhile before doing that.to give the system time to process my order. ? Anyway Thanks for checking in.

I went to the Item List and clicked on the three files associated with this product. That placede them in my Download File. Seems like there might be another more direct way to download content without going to the Item List and searching for the particular item, but that at least seems to work. I plan to buy another product but I will check back here first to see if there is any further advice on the proper way to do this.

Quote - a ds shader show up in your my library under presets and shaders labels.
you use them the same way you do mat pose/changing textures.
select the item in the scene tab, and in the surface tab then select the shader and apply.
Thank you I will experiment with this. I confess I still am uncertain about how to go about it. In the SURFACE tab are the Shaders found by clicking next to the Diffuse slider to bring up a long list of textures? Otherwise, I do not know where to locate the shaders in DS' Surface Tab.

Most Poser content will load fine in DS, the issue is whether the content has Poser specific shaders applied to it or not.In these cases, replacing the Poser Material room shaders with a DS shader should work. I have done this on many occassions.
Check with the vendor to be sure.

Thank you. Can you refer me to some source material or tutorials on Shaders. To be honest I don't know how to replace Poser Material room shaders with a DS shader.

I hope this is the correct forum for this question. I use both Daz and Poser, and I try to purchase content that will work on both, but it seems there is much more poser content to choose from. In the Renderosity's Market Place if a product does not specifically state that it works on DAZ should I assume that it will not work on Daz?

I have two questions:
Can anyone advise me regarding why I cannot install Poser 8 on to my PC? I get a message that say Application has failed due to a config error. The PC has a dual core processor and runs on XP Professional 2002. It has plenty of RAM. I run photoshop CS4 and D/S4 Pro on it without any problems.
I notice that SmithMicro is offering Poser Pro 2012 for $199 with a coupon. Anyone know where I can get a coupon? Otherwise it costs $499.
Meanwhile, I am still wrestling with trying to recover my lost files. I must say tho, it has been a learning , albeit extremely frustrating and time consuming, experience.

Quote - > Quote - I hate to sound so dumb - this of course coming from someone who justs erased all his Prop folders - but I do not know what or where the Content Installer is. In DAZ I can retrieve lost files by resetting my Order List or just reinstalling from my download folder where I left the original installers. But I am new to Poser and don't know how to get those Prop Files back.
I think you may be making your problem too complicated. As you have already said, you have very little content now. Why not just uninstall poser, and re-install clean, using the outside RT set up you have now and all your issues will be resolved!? When all else fails, re-install and start with a fresh copy and set up!
Problem solved.

I wish. I did reinstall Poser 8 on my MAC but now it will not recognize DAZ PEOPLE which is the folder where V4 and M4 live. When I first opened up the re-installed POSER the DAZ PEOPLE folder was there, then the next time I opened up POSER it was gone even though Ican find it the RUNTIME TREE, under Libraries/Character where it is suppose to be? There could be other problems as well that I have not discovered yet.
ALso, I tried to install POSER 8 on my PC (XP Operating System) in my Photography Studio but when I tried to open it up after installing it I received a message that "Application has failed because CONFIG is incorrect..."
If you have any suggestions, I am game. If not, I honestly appreciate all the time and comments you have put forth to date.

I somehow managed to overwrite all my Prop Files that came with Poser 8 with a single Prop file from something called Wedding Rings.
My question (for the moment) is how can I get those Prop files back?
My first impulse was to delete Poser 8 and then install it again since I have not as yet bought any content for Poser that I care about losing. But, before doing that I want to be sure that Poser will allow me to re-install the Program.
Again, I'd appreciate any advise.

To: Future Fantasy Design or Anyone else who can help.
I read (and re-read several times) your instructions. I have a follow up question: Where do I put the OUTSIDE RUNTIME FOLDER once I complete it? How will Poser know where to find it?Also what happens when I try to load Lights? Where do Light files go?
Also, I did not find any misplaced Runtime folders inside Poser, probably because I have not bought hardly any content for Poser since I don't know how to load it. However, I would like to get started acquiring more Poser content but I need to get a handle on how to manage those files first.

I would like to say thanks for the help. However, I must admit that I am still very confused altho I was able to open the New Content Runtime Folder and drag the subfolders (i.e. character, pose, textures, etc.) into appropriate Daz Runtime folders (character, pose, textures, etc). And now I can direct Poser to those Daz content files and use the product, but the whole process seems complicated. (And I am not clear about what I would do if I did not already have Daz installed on my computer.) Is there a reason Poser content does not come with installers the same way content sold for and by Daz does? Previously in this forum someone posted a sheet titled: Where To Put (or find) Poser Files, which I copied and studied before posting my question, but it still assumes familiarity with Poser that Newbees lack. And for those of us who came to computers late in life, fussing around inside folders is downright scary. No telling what we'll screw up when we start moving files and folders about.
As for Winrar, I am not familiar with this software and I will look into it, but I sense that the same problem still lurks for us Newbees: It is not readily apparent where the appropriate folders are in Poser, so we will still not know where to direct the folder(s) to.
I don't mean to gripe. I realize the fault lies with my inexperience with computer file and folder structures. Truly, thanks for nudging me in the right direction.

Quote - Assuming you are using a recent version of Poser (7+, and certainly 8+) you don't need to put the content in the application folder at all (Poser 6 with the DAZ humans, and some other items, does work better with at least those items in the application folder) - and if you are using Windows 7/8 or Vista then you definitely shouldn't put content there. If you already have the items installed for DS just point Poser to the same location (you want the folder that holds the Runtime folder). For new content, you need to merge the Runtime with the existing Runtime in whichever location you use - putting one Runtime inside another won't work; on Windows that's a matter of dragging the Runtime folder into the folder that holds the existing folder, but on a Mac it depends which version of the OS you are using as older ones can end up replacing rather than merging.
Thanks for your help. I have a Mac 2.66 MHz processor. It's about 2 years old. OS X operating system. My Poser software is Poser 8 (not Pro).
My problem is with installing New Content. I guess my question boils down to How Do I Merge the new content Runtime folder with my Poser 8 Runtime folder on my Mac? I tried copying and pasting but as you indicated, that didn't work. Any more assistance would greatly be appreciated. Thanks again.

I recently decided to learn Poser to compare it to Daz3D which I have been using for about a year now. When I buy a product from Daz it loads more or less automatically, but when I buy something for Poser it tells me to make sure I put it in the correct folders which apparently I am not doing correctly.
I bought the DoDoDr bird character yesterday. In the Readme section it says to “copy the Runtime folder into the Poser Runtime Folder”. So I copied the Dodo Runtime folder and then went to: Applications/Poser 8/Runtime and pasted the Dodo Runtime folder there. But, when I go into the Poser Runtime Folder, while there is a new (DoDo) Runtime Folder there, it is just called “Runtime”. (If I click on that folder to see what's in it I find four subdivisions: Geometries, Libraries, Templates, and Textures. And each of these opens into Animals, Dodo, etc.) but Poser can't locate them.
I notice that I have a Poser 4 Folder with a Download/Runtime folder on my computer that must have come when I installed Poser 8. Is this relevant?
What am I missing? Thanks in advance for any help.
I have Poser 8 (standard, not Pro) and am using it on a Mac GHz Intel Core i5 with 8 GB ram.

Quote - The face room is only useful on the SM figures. If you are not using those figures, forget about it. If you are, then push on through.
The hair room has never been useful to me for growing HAIR because it produces a result that is too coarse for my liking, but I've made a lot of grass with it! (You can grow hair on ANYTHING.)
Thanks. What are SM figures?
Also, I am having a problem in the Cloth Room. The tutorial says I should be able to convert clothing into dynamic clothing by [1] exporting the article of clothing (a shirt) as a Wavefront OBJ file, check **single frame in the Export Box, select only the shirt from the **Object Dialog Box, and enable only the Weld Body Part Seams option, then save it. [2]Then delete the shirt and replace it with the new **shirtprop **OBJ file, enabling Make Polygons Normal. Then [3] go thru the basic Clothify procedures: new sim with default settings, clothify (with shirtprop selected), set parent to **chest, **click Collide Against and choose the character (Ryan) in the Hierarchy Selection dialog box. [4] Finally click the Calculate Simulation button which I do. **The Calculate Simulation box appears but no calculations take place!? **What am I missing? Sorry for such a lengthy question.

I am using Poser 8 (Standard not Pro) on a Mac OS X
I am familiar with, but not an expert at, Daz 3D and am trying to learn Poser. I am currently wading thru POSER 8 REVEALED the Official Guide by Kelly Murdock.
Question: Does anyone actually use the Face Room and Hair Room for creating Faces and Hair? Would I be better of at this stage to ignore these rooms and concentrate on learning other aspects of Poser such as say the Cloth and Material rooms?
This site is a great idea. I have read all previous posts and have already learned a lot from it.
