Thread: about the voting from the monthly challenge | Forum: Fractals
Here are some random ideas: "morning in the sun", "rainy afternoon", "scary night", "storm", "time", "secret place", "a walk in the forest", "space adventure"... I don't know, things that tell a story and enable the imagination to go wild!!! It could also be books or songs titles (and it doesn't even matter if people don't know the song or book); colors would work well too I think. It could also be more abstract or philosophic concepts, like "freedom", "reality", "the theory of relativity", or whatever. OK, I'll stop here, now everyone's going to think I'm totally crazy!!!
Thread: How big do you guys work? | Forum: Fractals
Alison,
I don't know if you're replying to me or to Dave... Anyway, here's what I do more precisely. First of all, I'm talking of Apophysis. Let's say that I render a flame at 4800x3600 pixels; if I then open the image in Photoshop, it gives me an image of 66x50 inches at 72 ppi. In the "image size" menu, I just change the resolution to 300 ppi instead of 72, without resampling. The image stays at 4800x3600 pixels, but its actual size is reduced to 16x12 inches. I do that in the purpose of printing my images (300 ppi is correct for a good quality print).

Hello and welcome!
I don't work that big - that would blow up my PC!!!! I usually render at 4800x3600 pixels, which gives me an image of 16x12 inches at 300 ppi... i.e. good enough for printing. I would love to be able to get them bigger, though!

Thread: Flame philosophy - random thoughts | Forum: Fractals
I'm feeling kinda the same way... I guess that's why I can't help messing around with my fractals in Photoshop!!! It gives me the feeling of being more "in control" - like "I" am the creator of this piece, not just the fractal generator program.
I guess it's a shame sometimes since I have a collection of very beautiful stand alone flames that "pure fractalists" would certainly enjoy more than my usual compositions. It's just that I don't feel like I really "own" them, even if I spent time pulling triangles and fooling around with gradients...
Anyway, this is a very interesting thread you've started here! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and have a great week-end,
Agn :-)
Thread: can't activate the "Vote" and "Add image" or "Add artist" buttons | Forum: Community Center
Thanks guys for all your suggestions! I finally solved the problem: if I CTRL-click on the buttons, it disables my pop-up blocker... and it works! Everyday I learn something new ;-)

OK... I cleared my browser's cookies, temporary files and history; I also made sure that javascript is enabled. But I still have the same problem. I also disabled the Spy Blaster protection, it had no effect either. I guess I must have quarantined something useful have when running Ad Aware. I just don't know what! Aparently it's really a problem with my computer...

SndCastie: How do you contact Aministration?
Ardiva: well I guess Ad Aware and Spy Blaster protect from pop-ups... but the list is kinda long and I have no idea what should be enabled exactly to make the buttons work again.

Thanks. I checked it out, deleted all old Renderosity cookies and re-logged in but it didn't change anything. Still can't activate those buttons... I don't even know where I'm supposed to report this problem!

Thread: Newbie question: help for realistic shadows! | Forum: Bryce
Thanks for the tip. I just need to clarify something... "DTE": is it "Deep Terrain Editor" or "Deep Texture Editor"? Should I be in the terrain editor or the texture editor when I do the ALT+CTRL stuff? Also, which picture button are you talking of? The one in the "Create" palette? I'm lost and I feel totally retarded!
Thread: Newbie question: help for realistic shadows! | Forum: Bryce
OK... I think I get it for the picture import thing. But how do I proceed if I want to use one of Bryce's material presets instead of a picture? I tried to go to the picture part of the terrain editor and load one of the materials or textures presets but I can't open anything from there... I guess there's something I'm missing!

Thanks guys, it all makes sense.
I'm not familiar with the terrain editor yet, it intimidates me (kind of)!...
The idea of generating the terrain's height map using the bump texture of the material I want sounds really interesting. But I have no clue how to do that! I checked in the manual but didn't find explanations about it. I would be so grateful if anybody could give me a hint!!!

well, err... you were directed to an "adult" website (the link added itself automatically when I posted my thread, which was removed from the forum later on); so I cleaned my computer and it shouldn't happen again!
