Don't give up on DAZ just because of one model.
There are more free DAZ models you can try.
Go to http://www.download.com and type "DAZ" as your search.
Then you will find "Poser DAZStudio 3D Models Pack 1".
It has the following basic models (no morphs): Victoria 3, Micheal 3, Aiko 3, Hiro 3.
(I think Hiro 3 includes all his addon morphs as standard).
I've been using Aiko 3. I'm not into realism in my rendered image so I'm quite happy with Aiko's anime style. I recently purchased Aiko's addon morphs package.
I do agree that buying the morphs as a separate package from the base model feels like your entering into a bottomless pit. It's a bit like the marketing strategy behind Pokemon Cards - you gotta collect the all.

Hi Andrew_C,
You didn't sound abrupt to me.
All constructive criticisms are welcomed.
I love Notepad++. Thanks again.

I had done programming in Visual Basic and I can tell you testing / debugging is the pits. I spent about three times as long testing / debugging my programs than actually creating them in the first place. AARGH! And then there is writing the How To procedures for users of unknown intelligence. Sigh!

Hi Andrew_C,
You are absolutely correct. WORD does add unwanted formatting. That's why I religiously always backup my CR2 file before modifying it.
Thanks for the link to NotePad++. I'll try this out.
I hope Admin make this post a "sticky" because this loading issue due to the CR2 file is common. I have to modify the CR2 file about 30% of the free stuff I download and possible 2% of the purchased stuff. It may not sound much but it is time consuming.
Trying to create the correct filepath to the OBJ file (or texture file) really shows how unorganised other peoples filing systems are, even with the purchased stuff, folders are located all over the place.
I really love DAZ Studio. Anyone can pick it up and use it. But it's only drawback is the addons written by others. If they don't load then the casual user won't know what to do and blame DAZ Studio instead of the offending CR2 file written by others.

Hi FranOnTheEdge
I know filepaths have to be made. But any filepath before ":runtime:" causes Poser and DAZ Studio to ask me where the heck is this file you want (in not so obvious words). It's especially annoying when I have to actually fix up the filepath in content addons that I have paid for, which is not much because there is tonns of freestuff on the web. Just Google for the freestuff but use "safe search" mode because "poser" has other meanings, sigh!
On another note I just downlowded DAZ Cararra Trial Demo version and fell instantly in love with its interface. But it's all about usability and content so its time to experiment with another 3D appz. Happy happy joy joy. Will this be the Xmas present I get myself?
Best regards,
Ping.

Hi FranOnTheEdge
My coment wasn't specifically to you but in general. I'm relatively new myself and still experimenting. I wish I had more time to experiment.
I have Poser 5 that I got free on special last year from Content Paradise and also I have DAZ Studio 1.8 that I also got free this year. All for Windows PC (not Mac).
Anyhoot, I do what Whazizname said and use WORD or Notepad to edit files with bad filepaths. WORD for the larger files over 100kB and Notepad for the smaller files.
If you make your filepaths using the coln ( : ) instead of backslash ( ) then it works in both Poser and Daz studio on the PC. So it should work on the Mac too.
On another note I really like Daz Studio instead of Poser. I know Posers got more features but Daz Studio has got a fantastic clean interface and easier to set up scenes. Poser feels very chunky and outdated. I don't think I'll upgrade to Poser 7, it looks more of the same.
Best regards,
Ping.

If your going to post freebies the please please make sure the filepath in your code is correct.
I am forever opening freebie (and some bought stuff) poser files (CR2, PZ2, etc) and having to change the filepath for texturemap from....
"C:stupid_foldernameanother_stupid_foldernameposercontentruntimetexturesmy_foldernamefluffy.jpg"
to what it should be.... ":runtime:textures:my_foldername:fluffy.jpg"
Our PCs don't all have the same filepathsstructure. So any filepath before ":runtime:.." get rid of.
Ping.
