Hi all, I'm back. I've been able to create the terrain giving the tutorial, but still have some problems with this road texture, even at 4096 resolution. It's there any way to create a real road (seems to be a plan) using a road map ? This will help further to get a real good mapping on it.

Quote - Okay, here we go!
1 - In Vue, create a terrain - made mine 2048 in size - and smooth it out, and Export it as a BMP.
2 - Open Photoshop, bring up the BMP image and convert it to RGB (Mode>RGB) as it starts out as Indexed color. This will allow you to make more layers and change things in an editable way.
3 - Create a new Layer (Shit+Ctrl+N for PC / Shift+Cmd+N for Mac) and get your Pen tool (hit the letter P) and create a path where your road will travel - YES there's a resnoe to use the path tool, but it's for texturing later - you COULD just use a hard brush if you really wanted.
4 - Go into the Paths tab in the Layers pallete (bottom right in the picture) and click the little right arrow and choose Save Path.
Hi Lew. I can't find a good way to smooth the terrain as said in point 1. I've tried to load a terrain I've done in an other program, I've tried to apply the "Eroded" on the left panel but it creates stranges vertical lines (like the one done by water in the rock). I've tried to apply a function (noise smooth) but the result isn't the expected. Could you please tell me how to do that ?
Thanks

Great explanation, thanks a lot Lew.
I'll send you the result as soon as I get one. Your image looks good, hope I can create the same, altrough I really need to create high vertical slopes.
Thanks again for your time and help. I'll come back soon.

The above link (and resulting image) started out as a height map I made in Photoshop. A little tweaking once it got into Vue and I made the rocksides and hills more weathered.

Great image ! But it would be interesting to have a look at how your Heightmap file looks like, in order to get an idea on how the rocks and the stairs border has been done.

Quote - Hi, you can easy create with standard terrains. Just create your Mountain and copy&paste it.. You need it for a Shape. After this design your roads at the mountain and cut them off or for smaller scenes but the 2 terrains together so we get the different between.. Sorry not easy for me to write in english:)
But maybe it woud help you search a tut about lakes, rivers or waterfalls.. its form the idea behind it the same... at rivers and lakes wie cut some out and at roads we attach some.
bye and good luck
Thank you for your answer.
Do you think you can point me to any tutorial you think it would be useful to get your method working ?
I've found this: http://members.tripod.com/~ggbe/beginners/river.html but doesn't seem very useful.
