Thread: Brycetech, where are you? | Forum: Bryce
I think we need one of those 'hunt down Frankenstein' mobs from '50s horror movies. You, know the ones with villagers and pitchforks. Evil LOL.
I think everyone got a little excited by the idea of Bryce 6 - because all of us want Bryce 6 to happen. The joke wasn't by any means genius because the market audience was more than happy to play along. It just took a little bit of bad taste to bake this little trouble-cake.
April fools jokes are, in my opinion, a low sense of humor. Those that believed the jokes aren't gullible, they are trusting.

B stands for Brian. Hubenig is my last name. My last name, according to one sirname dictionary, means: Tall thin man, possibly used sarcastically. Ironic that my great great grandfather stood 5'3" and weighed about 300 pounds!

I use imports in some of my renders. I have no problem with artists that post Bryce renders that used imported objects into the gallery.
Imports that aren't created by the artist should not be allowed in monthly challenge. You can't properly credit the artist that created them. I have no problem if someone creates a model and imports it into Bryce for a challenge entry.
You can credit the creator when you enter the piece. When it is viewed their is currently no provision to let voters know you are using someone else's work. I personally believe this is an important factor in appraising a piece for the purposes of voting.

I work on a Mac and I have never been able to get negative metaballs to work! Any ideas?

I deleted a fiery post I made earlier. Thanks FWTempest for the strait arrow. In a sleepy haze I think I realize now missed the point.
I agree with Drac the community needs a lot more constructive critism.
I don't agree that this months entries "brought out the less-creative side in people". I would say that some of the executions were rougher and less involved than others. Creativity is something at can't be measured empirically. There were very diverse solutions to the challenge.
To be honest the challenge itself was more technical in nature given the technical aspects of modeling in Bryce. I really applaud those that took a shot at the metaball hands and the beginners that gave it there all. I believe the contest, to a large degree, isolated the beginner users and those more comfortable making their models in programs that can model better.

Thread: ATTENTION: - NO MORE BRYCE? | Forum: Bryce
That's really too bad about Bryce. It's my first 3D digital love and it's sad to see she doesn't have a date for the prom. In my opinion, it was a big mistake for the marketing department of Corel to buy it in the first place. Bryce 5 wasn't a big set-up from Bryce 4.
Writers for the Bryce 4 books (at least the ones I read) said they would wait for a Bryce 6 until they wrote another book because of the minimal new options and features. There were a few and not enough to make it a new book.
I really think that Bryce had serious potential for the pro-users and could have benefited greatly by the creation a Bryce Heavy and a Bryce Lightlong ago.
For individual programmers that previously worked on Bryce to pick it up for nostalgia sake is too far fetched, especially when they have other projects on their plate.
I think the best chance Bryce has for a new home is Curious Labs for integration with Poser. This move would make the most sense given the amount of Bryce/Poser out there. The program could be like Lightwave. A modeler program (Poser) that exports to a scene editor (Bryce) with a virtual Hub in the middle synchronizing the transport.

Thread: Something about lighting / render times | Forum: Bryce
Great render Stefano. Man, how I love Camels (they give me the steady nerves nessicary to work with Bryce 6 hours at a time).
Render times can be a bummer so I usually render each object separtley then assemble them in PhotoShop afterwards adjusting them (color balance, hue/saturation, brightness/contrast) by the object to achieve the final product.
I have some color control issues.

It took me a lot of thinking and here it is.
3 points - Jausse
High quality render with a great POV. I really love the way there are all these element in a vortex around a sort of alter.

The hand of God. A very direct approach to the idea of God. Great terrain and water.
1 point - dan whiteside
Great scene and comp. I liked the idea of the idol being worshiped and an actual phenomenon occurring overhead.
Great work everyone.
Thread: Editing gallery pics to fit into new genre?..... | Forum: Bryce
As for finding the category in which to place your work. Choose the first one that comes to mind - it's usually the right one. It took me about 5 minutes to change my gallery over.
I'm tossing my two Canadian pennies in with Doublecrash. I enjoy a lot of work that has been "pure" Bryce (for monthly entries I left images as they were) and those that prefer poster work (I'm a member of the later).
Genre indicates the nature of the final product. Paintings are labeled surrealist, abstract etc - not the brand of brush or paint the artist used. We are all digital artists (painters, sculptors and illustrators).
