In Bryce create a central cylinder object and place the desired number of smaller cylinders around the perimeter so that they will cut into the central one the desired amount. These smaller cylinders are then negative booleaned and the resulting first cylinder will appear fluted - I hope!

If you want high resolution I print to a Photographic slide and then have a cibachrome image photographically printed but it is a bit expensive for experimenting - dye sublimation prints also look good.

As a newcomer to these forums I am hesitant to make too mich noise but for my two bobs worth I would introduce a lighter and contrasting tone for compositional balance - perhaps in the form of 'gold dust' sprinkling down from the point of contact between hand and Kelpie mouth to balance the light shaft of the forest. The image is great and the myth new to me - thanks for sharing

Thanx Trimax - followed the yellow brick web and found some neat images for rendering but but but I'm sorry to inform you that none were what I wanted. I want to make the model in real world materials just for fun - like a cut out and paste up job. thanks anyway.
