If I have extensively reorganized my runtimes, does the script it keep it that way, or put it back into a Poser "default"? Or just lose track of a bunch of stuff (let's hope not)?

Graphics drivers won't have any effect on your rendering performance because yes that's all CPU in poser 2014, but your graphics card drivers are how *everytthing* gets from your computer to your screen. It's a cheap and easy thing to test. But really, when you get this behavior where a program simply "goes away"...no real errors, no real weird behavior before that- it just vanishes, it's a memory addressing issue. Could be your physical RAM, could be the memory on the video card, could be hardware on the motherboard that sits between the memory and the rest of the system. Could be driver issues or even a windows update. Unfortunately, memory issues can be maddening to try and track down.

Yeah, what Y-Phil said...try the studio drivers and always install with the "clean install" option. (It's under the non-automatic choice in the driver installer). They're usually more stable, though I could not get them to play nicely with some Greyscalegorilla plugins and had to revert to the game ready drivers, so YMMV. But try them both and use the more stable one, the studio drivers will only cost you 1-2% game performance if any, it's worth it if they're stable.

There is some wisdom to the adage "When someone tells you who they are, believe them."
Ruminate on that a bit

Mine turned out to be a bad memory stick, just tracked it down. Given that Redfern's behavior is identical to mine, I'd run some diagnostics.

... and start working to bring in new ones.
With what? At this point the only thing Poser has going for it is the easy to use interface. It has very little compelling content*, it doesn't bridge easily to *anything* any more as near as I can tell (and if it does, bondware can't be bothered to write any decent tutorials on how), its export tools are abysmal, and of its render engines, one dates back 6 or 7 versions at least and the other is a sorta-implemented version of another developer's. (Though the new surface implementation in P12 was at least a step in the right direction.)
More and more I see less reasons to use it stand alone, and no reason to use it in any kind of pipeline.
Lot of people don't want to hear that, but it's the truth as I see it. I love Poser, been a user since P4, bought every version from P7 to P11 though probably could have stayed with 2014. Couldn't see what P12 brought to my table. Can't, at this point, see what 13 is going to either but maybe they'll surprise me. Even hope only has value for so long though.
(* If not for the miles deep content catalogue of V4/M4 I think poser would have faded out long ago. I wouldn't be surprised if they are still the most used poser figures. Once upon a time Poser and DAZ needed each other...now Poser just needs DAZ, tough as that is to hear.)
I'll be over here now trying on my new outfit as "most reviled person on the message boards..."

So if things are still on track for March, we're no more than 3 weeks away from Poser 13 and the silence is...deafening. Not encouraging.
Thread: What Poser Version are you using and Why ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Still using Poser 11, mostly for VWD. I don't render inside Poser, and 12 didn't seem to offer much above 11 if you don't care about Cycles/Superfly. Waiting to see what 13 looks like, might be upgrading but the loss of unimesh support is a ding in the negative column because again...no unimesh support is what I already have in 11.
Thread: Honest question on Poser 12 | Forum: Poser 12
I render in Octane. I find the Poser plugin to work great for 90% of the things I need, and if it doesn't it's not a big deal to jump into the stand alone. I understand Octane's material system, and 20 years of experience with Poser (and a library 20 years deep) make it an easy workflow for me. But this wasn't about why I render things a certain way.
I know there's a 21 day free trial, but after reading around the boards it seems there are several features maybe not quite ready for prime time and I'd prefer to not eat up my trial time waiting for early day patches.
Thanks for the replies.

That's going to be up to personal opinion. While there was certainly some progress under SM, I also feel there were many missteps, but that's not what JAG's post or my reply is about. My point was that Bondware's "history" of poser that JAG speaks about simply doesn't exist beyond a recent few months.
Thread: Really Quick Impressions | Forum: Poser 12
You know JAG, your criticisms should be leveled at Smith Micro, not Bondware. Aside from a couple clean-up patches when they bought Poser from SM, this is their first foray into Poser development. The "track record" you speak of doesn't exist.
Thread: "Copy Morphs From" quit working? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Okay that was fun! For what it's worth, DO NOT rename the drive letter of whatever hard drive you have Poser installed on. Unless you're looking forward to a short vacation into the Windows registry. Among other things, it seems to break most of the "copy joints/morphs/measurement" type edit things.
So it wasn't Poser 11.3, it was me renaming a drive letter. Don't do that.
Thread: "Copy Morphs From" quit working? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
That's not a setting I see anywhere. I have an "include morphs" under the when conforming section, but checking that box doesn't change any behavior.
