Basically it's semantic. 'Mesh' implies it's already been triangulated, 'editable poly' gives you the same low-level access but the faces can be quads (or, in theory, even higher-order polygons). Gotta watch that meshsmooth, too, if you're building for game applications. IMHO the main reason for the enduring popularity of box modeling is that's usually how the low-poly game figures are made, and that's where most of the $$ is to be made.

Cool, hope you make it. Make a second set that isn't cut in half for the closed lids, then you can easily morph between open and closed to get the complete blinking movement. GL! Mark

No prob. If you don't plan to animate the lids you can get away even easier. Just pick the top half of the eye and extrude it a bit, adding some points if necessary to give a clean ridge for the lid's edge. Cheers! Mark

Since it's a cartoon-ish figure, you could get away with a quick solution: 1. copy the eyes and enlarge them a tiny bit 2. make a cutting plane and slice off the lower halves of the new objects 3. if desired, boolean subtract the eyes from the new 'lids' to give a curved inner surface There'll be a seam around the top of the lids, in a 'toon' face that might be okay. If not, I would reach behind the eyes, grab the mesh, and pull out enough to show on top of the upper eye halves, then futz around the control points to fine tune it. You could also go with the above method and do some fillet smoothing to blend the lids in. GL! Mark

Heh. I only post stills to the gallery because making them amused me. I get tired of the grind of making game models on a schedule and like sometimes to 'just play' with my tools. I like pretty and/or funny things, and methinks my gallery renders reflect that trend. I'm not out to impress anyone, just to share things that brought me some joy creating. I know my "Country Cousins" render isn't technical wizardry, though every pose is an original one and I made the 'country girl's' clothing myself. I guess if I treated those renders like they were auditions for a job they wouldn't be fun any longer. :-) Cheers! Mark

I just posted up a Faerie scene a couple of days ago, featuring my three wonderful Thorne/Mehndi faeries as well as a 'new' addition based on the Alice character. Nothing technically stand-out, just another little tribute to the wee beauties who make me smile. Then here comes Carly, almost to the day. another happy sigh The pic is called "Country Cousins" and it's gonna have to grow some to include more lovelies now. It'll be fun! Cheers! Mark

Hmm. I can't get to my Poser machine right now, but later this afternoon I'll play around and see what comes out. Of course, by then someone better-versed than I will already have given you the keys. LOL! Cheers! Mark

Yeah, and the only real value added with XP is the granting of extra control to Micro$oft. Pass, thank you. Cheers! Mark

That again sounds a lot like GMax. Discreet has gone so far as to warn against trying to write conversion plug-ins for their '.gmax' format unless you get a game pack development license from them. The big problem they'll have (are already having IMHO) is an end user can almost always use a game pack formatted output as an intermediate for importing the result back into mainstream modelers. I don't know how they're going slow down people 'working around' the format issue so trivially.
