Thread: Renderosity IRC chatroom | Forum: Community Center
I like this idea. I don't use that chat right now, mostly because it hasn't worked right for me yet. I'd chat in IRC, especially if there is some good moderation.

Wouldn't turning off file sharing work? When I was in a network like that I had 2 shared folders. One with access for everyone, that was a folder of stuff I wanted to share with people. And another that was password protected for me if I happened to need something while I was at another computer. Most of the other people on my network just had one share, that was they're c drive, with full read-write access (to prove to a friend how stupid this was I changed his backround from the other side of campus). I'm not saying that cleaning up your poser directory is a bad idea though.
Thread: Pentium vs Intel Celeron | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Celerons have a much smaller on-die cache. This means that when a large amount of data needs to be procesed (when rendering) the processor gets smaller chunks of the data to process. Meaning that it wastes cycles swapping data in and out of the cache. Most programs are not adversly affected by this, but anything that needs heavy processor usage is much slower on a celeron than on a pentium. A celeron can handle the processing for rendering, it's just going to be slower than with a pentium.

I looked for similar stuff recently. I found a site that had a number of battletech mech models, none specifically for poser though. I'm working on poserifing one of them. Also DAZ3D has a mech for sale, though it won't be easy to make a good texture map for it (take a look at the template) though solid colors are fine.http://store.daz3d.com/catalog/product.php?pcode=ps_ch024b
Thread: memory question for Poser 4 on Win 98 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I have 1280MB of RAM in my computer. When I was running 98se I had to convince it to not use any more than 1GB (it would reboot every time it booted into windows with more than that). I also found that whenever I rendered a large scene and it used ~640MB of RAM it would crash, every time (I watched sysmon.exe and crashed it 10 times in a row to make sure of this). The memory fix that cruzan mentioned might fix this problem, but it might still not work right on 98. I have upgraded to XP and haven't had the problem happen again (and I have seen it us over 1GB of m RAM)

Thread: Modellers... advice, pleeeeeze? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
This question does come up a whole lot. there are a few free modeling programs out there. Wings3d and Blender are the one's I've heard the most about (can't say I've use them much though).

Thread: Care & handling of the Mil Dragon! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
for those of you having crash problems, what OS are you running? Back when I was on Win98 if I put enough things in the scene to push the RAM usage over 640MB (I have 1280MB) it would crash poser, and sometimes leave the system unstable. The only time I had poser use that much ram was when I was rendering. I think the problem is that Win98 can't handle that much RAM for a single program.

I have the 3rd mag (bought it at dragon-con), and the Renderosibee strip looked great to me.
