Quote - So glad I waited before jumping in with Poser 7.
It is obviously a beta release for us guniea pigs to debug for them.
I can't believe they didn't know of these crash issues before release.
Â
Its been the same every update since I first bought Poser at P2. I gave up on P6 and have yet to download any of the service packs, as P5 works fine. Occluding shadows aren't enough to overcome the lack of backward compatability and the fact that P6 was slower and chokes on big projects far more often than P5. Â
And yet I bought P7Â at the pre-release special.
Every upgrade, without fail, The product gets rushed out,  it crashes often,  customer service can't keep up with all the complaints, three or four months go by, SR1 is released and while usually fixing "most" of the bugs, often comes with new bugs.  six months go by and SR2 is released and finally fixes most of the critical bugs without adding too many new ones, but some of the annoying, but less critcal bugs never get fixed.  Many disatisfied customers scream and rant in this forum after the release, vowing to never come back.  Â
But those with patience and perseverance eventually get a product that is truly amazing and without compare in the 3D world. I love Poser and the development team!
Merry Christmas to all!

thanks so much for providing such a utility. I have been frustrated by P6 to the point that I mainly use P5, but P6 is better at dynamic clothing.

I don't hav any useful advice. I have seen P6 cholke on simple images and chole on complex images. It seems some props (like hair props) are sometimes poorly behaved and cause P6 to crash. You're likely to have better luck rendering in P5. Have you installed SR1 for P6 yet? That might help (or it might cause other problems ;-) I am confident that some day soon P6 will be useable. I'm sure P6 will be fixed before P7 is released. I had similar problems in the first two or three versions of P5.

simon cowell go home ;-) I love renderosity because it allows anyone to post, even us amateaur hacks, and most people are kind enough to leave positive comments. There's enough negativity. One can always skip over images that don't have an interesting thumbnail. I myself am impressed with the amount of talent that posts to this website. Nearly every page contains interesting and sometimes spectacular pictures.

Or it might be a series of bugs that give the same error. I get the out of memory error whenever I use a background picture. I'm not going to use P6 again until SR4 comes out.
Thread: Help please!!! :) | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
This is one of my pet peeves. P6 changed a simple task into a complex task. Why CL changed the way to save pictures in P6 from the way P5(or P4 or P3 or P2) did it, and made it more difficult to boot is beyond me. Sure its probably mentioned in the manual. Sure we can figure it out with a little trial and error. I do it the same way Opera does it. (oops I was about to launch into an all out rip on P6 and completely off-topic :-o I'd better stop before I get all riled up about P6.
Thread: BVHair and Poser 6 - Crash!!!!! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'm not on a MAC, but I've been squeezing P6 hard for the last two days, running back to back scenes with different hair models on V3 loaded with way too many morphs. I loaded BV hair and rendered it successfully at 2560 x 1920. I think the P5 dynamic hair that I just loaded is taking P6 down though. Still I got eleven renders out of P6 in a row. I can't figure out P6 though. Some days it dies before I get a foot out the door and the next day, it acts (almost) as stable as P5. Only thing I can recommend is trying again with a very simple scene, ie no background graphics, just the character and the hair and try again. Maybe even start off with an untextured character. And a footnote, the P5 hair finally loaded :-)
Thread: Rendering at 300dpi... any success stories? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I render most of my scenes at 2560 x 1920, but I have no problem rendering at 3200 x 2400 in P5 on an 850Mhz 256Meg laptop. P6 is not as stable as P5 yet. Even on my 3.2 Hhz 2Gig Ram machine P6 stalls out at the oddest of times and can be very slow. Last night's P6 render took somewhere around fifteen hours. and it was just a headshot and conforming hair on a black background.
Thread: What would you like in Bryce 6 | Forum: Bryce
better color picker that lets one choose saturation/hue ditto for displacement mapping, better veggies, fuzz modeler. in short, I'd like to model a world with reasonable grass and some weeds. a more realistic sky/atmospherics physics modeller, look at terragen. let the user control the brightness of the sun, not just the color of its light. I want to see all of the polygons of objects in a scene sometimes. uv mapping of any imported object for textures. I don't really care about rendering speeds, I'm sure someday that someone will make a PC fast enough to render a 5 Megapixel image with full volumetric atmosphere, tons of lights with soft shadows and lots of transparent objects in real time ;0
Thread: I'm impressed with the tree editor | Forum: Carrara
For grass and ground cover, look at anything grows at digitalcarversguild.com. It makes very realistic grass, just be warned that it makes a model for every blade of grass, and subsequently can make very big files very quickly.

clothed. clearly. Unless she has fishscales for skin and no genitals. Almost androgynous. what's the fuss about?
Thread: Thumbnail nudity. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
So what's the deal with the Poser Hot 20 and the message on several pics that sez "Image not shown due to nudity". Has there been a change to the TOS? It doesn't seem to have anything to do with the filters.
Thread: Bum ---> Jpg? How? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I seem to recall that you can also convert the jpg to bum by the following procedure. Convert the file to a bitmap (.bmp) file with photoshop or paint shop pro or similar. Then rename it with a .bum extension. Works like a charm for those of you that don't have Poser 4 hanging around.
Thread: Firefly renders - has ANYBODY noticed.... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
So I see a little box that says "maximum texture map size" or something like that, in the firefly render box that always defaults to 1024. I wonder if the firefly takes the texture and resamples it to the default size. I'll bet the renderer doesn't handle big textures very well. Poser 5 in general doesn't seem to handle data as well as Poser 4.
