Thank you, Jon. Most of my recent Renderosity posts have been as photo-story montages (6 to 8 photos plus minimal text per montage panel). I've chosen "Comics and Cartoons" as the best fit for my stuff. It's all fluff, but fun.
My best wishes to you and the Writers Gallery contributors.

A book of creative writing (as opposed to reference material) sitting on a shelf is a waste. Pass the book on to someone who will read it.

Thought provoking ideas, Dialyn. The physical binder collection makes good sense for a more honest appraisal than my imagination.
Re-reading pieces written earlier, makes meshudder at what was left out, and of course the phrasing always needs a touch up. My friend Steve says this is the Nathaniel Hawthorn syndrome; someone who used to pencil-edit his published books.
To know where you are is a must if you hope to improve. As writers we need constructive criticism as feedback - gushing plaudits won't do the job. A critique may be way off-base, but it makes you consider and re-check your work.
Alas, Renderosity is not the place.

Well said New leaf and David,
One point, when you choose "Writers" section, you can post a 450 x 450 pxl main pic to go above the text, plus a 200 x 200 regular thumbnail. Then paste your text in the large comments box - there we are limited to 25,000 keystrokes (I think, or was that the old limit - it will tell you).
Some writing programs require extra lines between paragraphs, as R'rosity doesn't regognize indents.
Welcome to the section.

Thread: Image size in Writers Gallery | Forum: Writers
Hello Shabetei,
To get more mileage with pics for my texts, I upload the larger 450 x450 px (or less) image and then a different (but text related) image at 200 x 200 or less for the thumnail. So far, I haven't run into the problem you mention.
Now counting lines to get past the "L" shape of text, I'm still working on that. If the pic is to the left of the text, then the chances are high your reader will at least scan the text. But if you put the pic to right of the text, chances are your reader will be drawn to it and forget about "doubling back" to read the text. Left-to-right; we are conditioned.

Hi Shabetei,
When you start your upload, and they ask about an image, the new dimensions are there as 450x450 pxls for "Writers."
TallPockets and I have posted at 450x450 - the new limit more than doubles the area of your image.

Yes, what Dialyn says about three pages and stop is an excellent tactic. Many how-to books call this "Journaling," or "Morning Pages." Julia Cameron in "The Artist's Way" adds that you should do it with pencil or pen, never a keyboard. Also, do it first thing after getting out of bed in the morning, before the left hemisphere wakes up. EVERY DAY. Just go>>>> Laundry lists, hates, loves, names, anything. And never let anyone see those pages, short of a court order.
About being a "writer?" Be of good cheer. Put two words together and you are there.

My error this morning - placed this under the wrong thread. It belongs here:
Blogging? Yes, the perfect form for most of the pieces posted in the Gallery. Blogs, from what little I've seen, are personal reactions to the world. RE-Actions.
But I digress. Renderosity, in my opinion, has evolved into a house of claques. I praise you, you praise me = gush. Not good. Claques don't think, they RE-Act.
Writers need original and objective critiques of their work. Claques drown out chances for valuable critiques.
And, Dear Friends, that is why many writers have left.

Miss Dialyn,
My apologies for posting my Aug.1 reply above in the wrong thread. It should go under TallPockets' thread about "Where Have All the Writers Gone."

Hey ByteDreams,
Make your request in Community Center Forum farther down the list of forums below "Writers."
StaceyG or one of the others in Administration watch that place for our complaints, and, like the larger pics, they get things done - they want to help.
Dee-Marie made that suggestion to me, and it worked well.

Good find Dialyn. Anything we can do to make our protagonist "different" helps. And the empathy pull doesn't hurt.

Hi Dee-Marie,
Your suggestion worked. StaceyG (administration) says we can now post up to 450 x 450 images in the Writers Gallery. That doubles the maximum area of our images (plus a little).
Glad to know the administration listens to us. Brian's backing that turned the trick.
