Thread: How to edit poser5 groups in a text editor ? | Forum: Poser Technical
Hi Compiler, I remember working on this tool with you, the last I knew it was working fine, it has been in CR2Edit6 since October I believe, and no one has reported it DOESN'T work. The opening web page for CR2Edit mentions it:
"Finally, a new tool, it can dump P5 morph nodes, either individual parmNodes or entire groups at once."
I remember that lately you had a disk crash, perhaps you don't have the latest update installed (6.02, if you don't, or the tool isn't working for you, please let me know by email (info@zenwareonline.com), I don't normally come here and only heard of your post through a kind friend.
regards,
Dan

In the 4+ year history of CR2Edit, I have had only 2 requests for refunds that I can remember. Since there has never been a refund request for the current version of CR2Edit, ronstuff must be speaking of version 4 or 5. Many of the complaints about those versions concerned the difficulty of the interface, which was not easy for the infrequent user. It was designed by DAZ, who wanted something very quick to use -- once you were familiar with the way it worked. Version 6 is a completely different animal, intended to be fast for the professional and yet full of help for the amateur. There are literally hundreds of tools, and admittedly, many will be a total mystery to the average hobbyist. The more esoteric ones were requested by professionals with specific needs. For example, Chris Derochie of PoseAmation wanted animation data in PZ2 files, and scaling for cartoon characters. Not likely to be used by many people, but it saved him untold hours in creating some pose files for a Christmas release. Yes, you can use a text editor to create one of these files, but that can get old real fast when you have a hundred to do. Compiler, as with all Poser utilities as far as I know, you need to decompress the CRZ first. Not all tools have been tested with P5 CR2's, but all that have been have worked. If you decompressed and still had a failure, please write me at info@zenwareonline.com and let me know what tool it was. (I rarely have time to make it up here). ANY time something doesn't work, contact me -- here is a quote from the blurb that goes out with all copies: "PLEASE report things that don't work right, it may be a "bad" file, or it may be a bug. If you have suggestions for new tools or additions to existing ones, feel free to send them along -- this is YOUR program. Its genesis back in the days of Poser3 was for the purpose of making modifying Poser files fast and easy, and I have always depended on my users to help make it better. Your input matters, you should never assume that someone else may have already told me something." regards, Dan http://www.zenwareonline.com for CR2Edit6, ZenPaint, ZenTile, VueMaster and the complete line of Zenware graphics apps
Thread: How do you make and save a Partial body pose? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Adding to a year-old thread, that has to be some kind of a record, LOL! To my knowlege, there is absolutely no reason to mess around with a text editor to make any PZ2 file, all the things you mention and far more are automated in CR2Edit6. It isn't free, but then, most people do place a value on their time. The upgrade from version5 is about the cost of a tex map -- which might be used only once or twice. regards, Dan http://www.zenwareonline.com for CR2Edit6, ZenPaint, ZenTile, VueMaster and the complete line of Zenware graphics apps

Amazing, Rob and Jim! Just when you think there are no new tricks to discover, you come up with a really cool way to use the dreaded IK, which everyone normally turns off immediately! And these are perfect examples of how ERC can make things simpler. Yes Rob, your version 5 has ERC, this is one of the more popular tools. Version 6beta is currently 4X as big as 5, and includes tools to automate modifying any type of Poser file. No more wasting time with tutorials and text editors, now you will be able to spend that extra time creating art and discovering more cool things like actually putting IK to practical use. There is a list of current tools here: http://www.zenwareonline.com/cr2edit/Ver6Tools.html If you see anything missing, let me know. The web site for 6 is partly done, you can take a peek here: http://www.zenwareonline.com/cr2edit/cr2edit6.html For Japanese users: Himeko has moved her Poser site: http://olive.zero.ad.jp/~zbh69832/tomo/tomo.htm Thanks to both of you for the inspiring work! Thread: CR2Edit6 news update | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi, you've got version 4, from P3 and early P4 days, version 5 had better help, and 6 has help in every window, as seen in the screen shots, as well as popup context-sensitive help, built-in tutorials, walk-thrus for more complicated processes, in short, far more help than any program I know. There is no external manual, it's all part of the program, cuz no one reads manuals. This way they'll be helped whether they want to be helped or not, LOL! Also, if someone can't figure something out, you should contact me, I don't have your email address, which means you never got in touch with me with 4(or else I screwed up and didn't update my registration database when you did) Dan http://www.zenwareonline.com for CR2Edit, ZenPaint, ZenTile, VueMaster and the complete line of Zenware graphics apps
Thread: Just curious....Why don't people optimize thier files? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
CR2Edit has been removing normals for some four years now, with nary a report of an app complaining -- which doesn't mean that none do, only that nobody has bothered to tell me if one does. "- Just deleting all the 'vn' lines is NOT a valid thing to do... those lines are also referenced by the 'f' (facet) lines... if you are going to delete the normals (correctly), you need to remove those references as well." (Spanki) CR2Edit does remove those references, and version6 will also fix files that people have hacked in a text editor (obviously they don't also remove those refs, even if they know enough to do so) It will also correctly compress morph target OBJ's, which is of course much simpler. "[sorry, it's just a sore spot for me, after fighting through countless special-case coding to handle corrupted .obj files]" (Spanki) I'm with you all the way here, LOL! People who open data files in a text editor are the bane of my existence. I shudder every time I see another 5 page tutorial on how to hack a Poser file to do something-or-another than can be safely done in seconds in CR2Edit, because I know that someone somewhere -- usually MANY "someones" -- is going to slip up and I will get an irate message that CR2Edit can't handle a certain file. And then there are the tutorials that are incomplete or just plain wrong. There are a number of tools in CR2Edit6 that are dedicated to fixing text-edited files, and improper files created by some other utilities. (And even by some elderly versions of CR2Edit, we learn something new every day) regards, Dan http://www.zenwareonline.com for CR2Edit, ZenPaint, ZenTile, VueMaster and the complete line of Zenware graphics apps

Thread: is there such a prog | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi Roy, No need to reorder vertices, only the F lines are shuffled. As in Posette: you have a group line for say the left forearm, then one F line, a G line for the right forearm, one F line, then back and forth. The extra G lines add to the size of the file (tho rarely more than a couple per cent), but do slow down any app reading the file and extracting the info. For anyone attempting to do this by hand, remember that the placement of the material lines is significant and must be preserved as well. 4 years ago, CR2Edit was indeed only for CR2 files, but it has grown over the years to cover every file type used by Poser -- thousands of people had the early free versions, so I kept the familiar name in place with subsequent versions. CR2Edit6 currently is over 7.2MB, nearly 100,000 lines of code, and I have no idea how many tools. There are 63 separate windows, with multiple tools in many. It is more than 3 times the size of CR2Edit5 and more than twice as big as Poser4 itself, and includes the functions of essentially every other utility (with the notable exception of UVMapper; only minimal UV mapping tools are included), plus far more. If you already have CR2Edit, it will mash your OBJ's, either for morphs or standard. Removes the normals and dumps them from the face lines as well. CR2Edit6, in beta, will also condense an OBJ, by reorganizing the groups so that all face lines are together for each group, making the file a little smaller but potentially much faster to load, depending on the "fragmentation" -- its much like defragging your hard drive. But don't wait for 6 if you don't have 5, it will be cheaper to upgrade from 5. Thread: CR2edit6 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Sorry I haven't been by sooner, but I am very busy and Render. is SO slow, hope those new servers make a difference soon! CR2Edit6 is indeed in beta, with the feature set pretty well established, but there is much testing yet to do. It's a tremendous job, with the interaction of scores of tools. I don't have a count of how many there are, because there are so many options within the tools that its hard to say just what constitutes a separate tool. But I can say that CR2Edit5 is 2MB, and CR2Edit6 is 7.2MB and still growing, so that should give you an idea. With version 5, the text editor is largely dead, with 6 it is completely dead. Thip's version 5 manual was the source of much of the builtin help in version 6, but with at least 3 times as many tools there is an incredible amount of new help, not to mention the builtin tutorials and walk-thrus. And Akin not only translated the version 5 manual (like Thip, he bought his own copy also, and is definitely NOT on the payroll, LOL!), but also translated all the new help and tutorials and walk-thrus and captions for every one of the hundreds of buttons and labels in all 63 windows, a tremendous job! For those who read French, he has tutorials on his site. I would also like to publicly thank Rogue6023, who has been testing CR2Edit since version 3. He hasn't been able to do as much with 6 as previous versions, since he has been busy keeping California from burning up (he fixes the airplanes that fight the fires), and as Americans know, there have been plenty of fires out West this year. Also, I would like to thank Himeko (the "Bug Queen"!), who has been tireless in her testing, and is also providing the translation for the Japanese help and buttons/labels, when she has time. She also has tutorials for CR2Edit and other Zenware used in conjunction with it, if you read Japanese: http://www1.ocn.ne.jp/~liolion/index.html The relevant link is in pink on this opening page, if you want to look at the pictures for the tutorials, at least. When you reach the "pink page", you will see links at the left which take you to various parts. I will try to get an announcement up at the Zenware site tomorrow, to alleviate confusion, now that the word about 6 is getting out. Thanks for the interest, and most especially, the support! CR2Edit will extract embedded geoms from anything and put in the ref to the new external geom, but since this is but one of about 75 tools in it, it may be WAY more than you are looking for.
