Thank you for setting this up, most certainly count me in! I have no experience with Patreon, how do we proceed so we can contribute to this project?

Hi kwan,
I had the same problem when I first tried the GPU beta, updating the driver for my Nvidia GTX 1070 got rid of it. If you don't already have recent enough drivers you could try getting new ones. Cheers!

Oh my, who would have expected THAT from a textile simulator!
WOW, BRILLIANT!!!
Congratulations on your results so far Gérald!
Please, please, explain to us how to use these wonderful new possibilities.

I really meant it when I wrote "what an improvement!", it IS almost scary how fast things move now! But indeed, the surprising behaviour of a simple sheet is not what you would expect from previous experience with the non-GPU assisted VWD. And of course I will try MUCH more complicated simulations, it will be fantastic to see what we can do now! All I needed to do to get started was update my graphics drivers.
Cheers!

I had Nvidia driver version 375.95 - WHQL on my Win 7 system, and GPU accelleration for VWD didn't work. Now I've installed version 391.01 - WHQL (Feb 26, 2018), and WOW, incredible how a simple sheet of cloth drops like a brick over that test cube! Then it slides off the cube and wiggles and crawls around exploring the floor around it, like it is alive! Scary!
What a difference to how it was before, when it slowly, almost elegantly draped itself over that cube, calmly coming to rest in a relaxed pose.
What an improvement!
Cheers!

Could some kind of 'startup' scheme be an option as a way to generate some cash to speed things up? Nothing too complicated or fancy, just to raise enough to cover the initial cost.

Cheer up Gérald, don't be sad, we are not all like that.
I think most of us are very very grateful for what you have done so far creating VWD.
The only, quite reasonable, demand we might have is that you quit your regular job, and, most of all, stop wasting precious time on sleeping. Sleeping is soooo overrated!
Fingers crossed you're not tempted to drop this wonderful project like a brick and get on with your life like it was before venturing into this crazy dynamic virtual world.
Cheers! Erik

Great! I really hope this will encourage more people to try it.
If only you could 'flatten' the learning curve somehow, and make it less intimidating without sacrificing its stunning possibilities and flexibility. Perhaps it's possible to split the 'basic' settings that work most of the time, and the 'advanced' settings for the tricky cases more than you have now. And perhaps the names for the parameters could be a bit more 'self explanatory' (= less confusing) than they are now. I know I had to read both manuals quite a few times before things started to clear up in my (reasonably old, I'll admit) head.
All that time and effort did pay off BIG time though! Thanks again guys!
Cheers,
Erik

The way I see it, it's a way to 'push things around', similar to 'Wind'.
But wind is pushing in one uniform direction all over the place, whereas a force field radiates in all directions from a single point in 3D space.
With wind you can only change the general direction it is coming from, and of course its strength. By moving the position of the origin of a force field you can do much more than just that.
Animating the direction the 'wind' is blowing from (and its force) could be helpful as well in nudging stuff into a particular direction.
Cheers!

If I am correctly understanding W_B, I think that's a great idea!
A way to explain it (as I understand it) would be to use a dummy object (a null object, a cube primitive or something else) in DAZ Studio, as an animated placeholder for a moving origin of a force field in VWD during an animated simulation.
This way a user could guide and control the way the force field moves during that animation cycle to obtain a desired (end)effect. You could even think about giving that placeholder an attribute that tells VWD how strong the force field must be at any time during the animation. So changing the size of the cube, or its colour, or the number of vertices during the animation could be a measure of power for the force field in VWD.
Giving that placeholder object a pre-determined name would then tell VWD that it is a 'special' object, so it can be separated from collision- and cloth objects.
All sounds doable enough to me : )
Cheers!

Thread: Horizontal and Vertical rigidity settings | Forum: Virtual World Dynamics
Hmmm, I think a universal, or multifunctional, gizmo would work, but only if it gives clear visual feedback about what it is controlling at any time you see it.
So if it changed its colour for each particular task or purpose, or if it would give a textual indication of the parameter it is going to influence, why not?
The main interface is quite crowded and difficult to navigate as it is already, so you're absolutely right in avoiding to add even more elements to it.
Cheers!

Hi Gérald, thank you for responding to my question.
Even if true U-V-W orientation would theoretically be ideal, a VWD gizmo to locally guide the direction of parameters would be very welcome, not only for the split flexibility/rigidity settings of a selection of vertices, but also for the controlled expansion/contraction of such a selection.
It would be absolutely wonderful if you could (and would) design and program such a control widget for VWD!
Cheers!

I just added a new function using the same interface as the Scale feature. This function uses a percentage value, an horizontal and/or a vertical direction, to modify the softness of the springs. This allows to change the behaviour of a cloth vertically or horizontally. Very useful in some cases.
That's great news Gérald!
I have some questions about that functionality, but I will post them in another thread to make it easier for you to find ; )
Cheers!
