There are people that are not colour blind, but can only think in B&W. For instance, ask them to imagine a red car and they can't they can only see black or near black. Talking of stars, I wondered where the sun went to at night so I stopped up to find out and then it dawned on me :)

When in doubt I direct my hand to receive the same amount of light falling on it as my subject and take a close-up reading from it. After all the skin is usually the most important subject.
