I don't like the new Marketplace layout - the thumbnails are way too big and the layout just doesn't look right. Plus which clicking on the thumbnail now opens a new tab in Firefox instead of a new page in the same tab (which is what it was before and which I preferred). And the issues with the missing categories and subcategories in "Essentials" still hasn't been fixed either.
Frankly, I think all this has been a case of fixing what wasn't really broken, and then actually breaking it in the process. I really, REALLY want the option to at least change back to the old way of viewing the pages.
Thread: New Essentials Category Highly Annoying! | Forum: Community Center
I was all ready to lower the boom on you guys about how I can't sort out vendor stores into "Characters", "Hair", etc. anymore :cursing: but now that I see what's actually happening I'll give you some slack. Just wish you had done some more beta-testing first...

Actually, I haven't seen anything yet that really grabs me and yells at me, "Buy me!" just yet, though I've put a good deal of stuff on my wishlist. Part of it is that money is tight, but also, what I really want to get for Dawn, clothes-wise, is more haute-couture/vintage/period outfits and accessories (and I'm not talking about steampunk, either; I mean authentic Victorian and Edwardian-era outfits!)

Quote - I just noticed the ad on the sidebar, for Powerage's "Essential for Dawn."
Is that really four complete outfits for $9.47? Or do you need to have bought the V4 versions for it to work?
That price seems crazy.
It's for real, but you'd better grab it within 40 hours if you want the discount. If you read the readme file, you'll see that you don't need V4, only Dawn. Be aware that some of the mat files might not work in Daz Studio (though, in my experience, Powerage's stuff generally works quite well in Daz with minimal tweaking, or you can substitute third-party shaders).

Thread: Problem with 3DFiends' Fancy Coffins in DS 4.5 Pro | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Quote - Glad I saw this thread - I jus bought the fancy coffin and would have frustrated myself to death! I'll fix the CR2s tonight.
Since the original materials won't work in DS, and you can't change the color of the padding in Editor, I recommend using third-party shaders instead. The coffin's author suggested a set of free satin shaders at ShareCG which work very well indeed: http://www.sharecg.com/v/21408/gallery/7/Material-and-Shader/DazStudio-Satin-Shaders-Resource (the author of this resource actually has two sets of satin shaders available, you can get the second one by going to their gallery and looking on page 2). Several free or low-cost metal shader sets are available to color the metal parts, as are wood shaders.
Thread: Wanted: pageant/royalty-style shoulder sash for V4 | Forum: Freestuff
For DS - it needs to be a conforming item. (Sorry for the late reply, I was working on a DS project.)

UPDATE: I've just tried MostDigitalCreations' free "Miss Digital Creations" sash, which was recommended to me, and that item won't work either. It's a prop, not a conforming clothing item, and as such doesn't have morphs to fit properly to the V4 figure, just translation, rotation and scale morphs. It looks particularly bad from the side when put on a V4 figure, it really doesn't fit or conform at all.
Thread: Problem with 3DFiends' Fancy Coffins in DS 4.5 Pro | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Problem solved at last. :) I managed to get in touch with 3DFiends today, and with some help from them, some free satin shaders from ShareCG that 3DFiends pointed me to, and an article on how to apply shaders at Daz3D's help desk, I have finally worked out how to change the materials in the coffin interior and base curtains. :)

As the colors for the exterior metal fittings - scrollwork, handles, hinges, etc. - can be changed in DS's Editor according to the usual procedures for so doing, I think that we can stamp this issue "resolved".
Thread: Not tested in Daz charators | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Quote - I'm surprised vendors will go the "not tested in Daz Studio" route when Studio Pro is free and the only thing they stand to loose by not testing in it is sales.
I wholeheartedly agree with that. Look at my own thread on 3DFiends' Fancy Coffin, which also carries the "not tested in Daz Studio" rubric. As originally coded, the item wouldn't load at all in Daz Studio, which could have been avoided by simply editing the figureResFile line to read ":Runtime:Geometries:null.obj" instead of what was actually in there, ":none". As it is, even though the item will now load, none of the mats (to change the colors of various components) will load because they're in a format (mt5) which Daz Studio can't even read, and for some reason I still can't edit the colors of the interior components in DS's Editor (although I can edit the exterior components). If authors would just get DS Pro and test their files, they could avoid a lot of these kerfluffles.

And yet another edit (sorry about posting all these as separate posts, I can't edit my old posts after more than a couple of minutes): I wasn't quite correct about not being able to edit any colors after all. It turns out that I can edit the coffin body itself - the hinges, scrollwork, carry handles and such. It's the padding inside the coffin that I'm having problems with.

One other note for anyone else interested in this product: The default dimensions are too big, and a standard V4/M4 figure will look small when posed in the coffin. I suggest reducing the X-scale and Z-scale for both coffin and coffin base in the Parameters tab to 85% for a standard V4/M4 figure to make it look right (you can fiddle with the percentages if you have your figure at a different height than standard).

Good news and bad news:
Good - Editing the figureResFile line worked. :) I can now load the coffin and coffin base properly in Daz Studio.
Bad - I can't change the colors in Editor, specifically, the colors of the padding, pillow and base curtains/drapes. The "default" color is black (diffuse 2/2/2, specular 248/248/248, ambient 0/0/0). I've tried several times to change the padding and pillow to white (255/255/255) without success. I'm stumped, since this is the first time since I started working in DS that I haven't been able to change an item's color in Editor; and I should also add that in the default, there is no texture/material assigned to the item, just the base color. I wonder if there's something else I could edit in the .cr2 to make it possible to change colors?
Thread: Problem with 3DFiends' Fancy Coffins in DS 4.5 Pro | Forum: DAZ|Studio
I just now examined the .cr2 file again in EditPad Lite, and indeed, both FigureResFile lines say ":none". Therefore, I'm going to experiment with changing the line as you suggested and see if that works. (Naturally, I'm going to save the current .cr2 file before making any changes.)
Thread: Problem with 3DFiends' Fancy Coffins in DS 4.5 Pro | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Quote - Check the CR2 for both **figureResFile **lines, if the both say ":none" then you can try changing them both to figureResFile ":Runtime:Geometries:null.obj", the null.obj is a dummy files that comes with Victoria 4.2, so as long as you have her installed you should have the OBJ.
The materials are MT5 which DS can't see let alone load.
I have V4.2 installed, so I'll look and see if I can do that. I suppose I'll just have to create my own colors for the body and lining in Editor (I had to do that with the Karth free coffin too because, although DS could see the mats, it couldn't load them).
