.lmh files are presets for my Plugin "Look at my Hair" for DAZ Studio. If you don't have the full plugin, we have a free Player that can be used to apply the presets to figures. The full version of Look at my Hair allows exporting special LAMH FiberHair that is Iray compatible and significantly faster/smaller than exporting to OBJ files, as well as creating your own hair creations.
.LMH files can live anywhere on your filesystem, but the default location is in the "lookatmyhairAM" folder in the User "Documents/DAZ3D/Studio" folder.
EDIT: Also, a collection of free presets can be found on our website http://furrythings.com

Folks....
These are all tools. Dawn is the nail that you hit with the software hammer of your choice. She's a TOOL. She is a nice looking nail to be sure, but like most nails, only a small portion of the total will be visible. Whether it be via morphs, clothes, LAMH fur ( :-) ), props in the forground, textures, what have you.
There is absolutely no sense in getting emotionally engaged positively or negatively to the tool. V4 doesn't have to be replaced, Genesis isn't demon spawn, and even the base Poser figures can be made to look nice. Use the tool(s) to get the job done, advocacy is irrelevent.
Dawn is definitely a great figure, and she'll fit in my library just fine. I like the crew involved, and I can see that there is more potential for her than the other "hopefuls" for the Poserverse in recent memory.

Er, I've made a skull cap but I'm not the one doing the hair conversions... I'm making new hair ^^;
As well as some other shiny things. :)
I'm presuming that you are doing presets for LAMH.
I hope they get the update sorted for the Player, at the moment it has some bugs that make it crash on alot of machines.
A LAMH Player update has been sent to DAZ already. Look for it soon. We're watching Dawn closely as well.

regarding the genetalia: It probably has nothing to do with "Art" or religion or any of the other political ideas that are always thrown about. A major issue is "facilitation."
Defending against a charge of facilitation is a very expensive proposition even when innocent of the charge. Many Prosecutors (and lawyers) will go after any company/entity that is even remotely involved in a charge dealing with sexual issues. It is a very hot button issue for those in the political realm, and even moreso for those looking to garner a larger payoff for themselves or a client who has been "wronged."
For a small Company, defending against even a frivilous charge of facilitation can kill the Company. Not to mention the extreme bad publicity that is always garnered from the Main Stream Press to sensationalize anything of that nature. In many cases, the reports will leave the public with a "guilty verdict" as the press will gleefully cover the charges but will rarely cover the exoneration or acquittal. The chances are just not worth it.
These issues become even more pronounced when the percieved wrong happens in the public schools. A moment of "naughtiness" by a immature boy can cause a whole world of problems for everyone involved. And don't doubt for a moment that young boys will not take every opportunity to be "naughty." In the current hyper-sensitized schools human 3d models in general are a problem -- heaven forbid that a child load a gun into a scene, or put the figure's fingers into a gun's shape -- but even the act of putting figures into "compromising" positions can lead to serious problems. ALL WITHOUT GENETALIA INVOLVED. Add in the genetalia and the problems become orders of magnitude more complex.
The decision to not include them at this point is the right one.

Quote - > Quote - > Quote - > Quote - Thanks for the reviews. I have to say, though, that Garibaldi looks much better than LAMH to me. Looks much more realistic, at least as human hair.
If I used DS, I'd probably use both. Just like both dynamic and conforming clothing have their place.
I thought the same until I looked in the render thread at DAZ for Garibaldi. I swear all the promos must be postworked, because I didn't see a single render in the thread--even from the creator--that looked as good as LAMH.
Some questions about LAMH. I've seen how it handles fur, hair, and beards. But how does it look as body hair, stubble, and especially eyebrows? I'd be keenly interested in erasing every painted eyebrow on every last texture map in my runtime in favor of real hair eyebrows.
Thank you for your comments.
LAMH does stubble and such very well. We have a person who is creating "real" hair for a number of texture templates. Brows, etc. Body hair is insanely simple in LAMH.

Great to hear and thanks for the quick reply. :)
The trend for LAMH lately has been toward "real world" hair. That is non-pinup, non-perfect hair. Hair that the everyday person has to deal with.
At first the trend was animals, because -- let's face it -- there were NO good furs available for animals anywhere. There were prop and figure hairs galore for the human models, but for animals, nothing. This sort of led to people thinking "LAMH is for animals."
Now, we're starting to see those hair presets for the non-perfect person. The morning hair (see furrythings.com), the after shower hair, the messed-up-by-the-wind hair. And the "my hair is just not cooperating today" hair. Why? Because it can be done now, easily.
We're also seeing more hair for African Enthincites, which are sorely needed in this arena.

Quote - Can anyone explain how this differs from the hair room?
From what I've heard, it's not truly dynamic. It doesn't do collisions.
What are the advantages? Faster, easier, quicker rendering?
I'd love to be able to do feathered dinosaurs like in example on your web page. You can do it with the hair room, but it's kind of a pain. The Poser hair room has some quirks that make full body fur difficult. If your plugin is a better solution, I'd be interested.
Yet. I'm adding new things all the time. :-)

Thread: Can someone unemotionally state the advantages of Genesis over V4/M4 in Poser? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - The beginning to all these problems with Daz, the original canonical mistake, come from the installation process. The user don't know what that is installed or where it was installed. And now, when they finally are on their way to remedy this (why took it so long?), then they make the same mistake again, by not documenting the Dson installation process.
You are basically asked to transfer something you don't know what it is or where it is, convert it and place a new bunch of undocumented files somewhere you don't know.
I agree that DAZ is guilty of assuming that computer users have at least basic knowledge of how their system operates. Unfortunately, many who use Poser and D|S are the "bread goes in/Toast comes out" type of users.
Let's face it, 3D art/modeling/animation is not a field for those unwilling to learn. However, there are a large contingent of Poser/DS users that are exactly that way. They have little knowledge of how Poser/DS operates, and less motivation to find out.
It is easy to make the presumption that people, at the least know how to keep their systems up to date. Sheesh, people are told that this process requires Poser9 or PoserPro2012 and there are still Poser users trying to install it on Poser 7/8 or PP2010. Never mind the fact that, evidently, a large portion of Poser users haven't bothered to update to SR3... or update their Windows installs.
Again, DAZ gives the users too much credit. Then they get flamed when the users screw up. Maybe one day DAZ will presume that users are idiots and ... well, they'll probably get flamed for that as well.

Quote - Actually I have spend some time at the Daz forum (without sun glasses) and find that the Daz people are very untechnical. There are some good administrators but they are tired and over-worked it seem wrong to bother the same guys time and again. No, if we want something to happen we have to do it ourselves. That is the hard lessen in the world! To find out is how to transfer material to Poser is the next thing. Lets put our back to it.
Vintorix,
From your posts, you've spent the majority of your time in the "New Members" area. Those who can help with this type of thing don't normally hang out there. The "technical" people are in "Nuts and Bolts" and "Daz Studio Discussion" more than likely.
There are as many "untechnical" folks here as there. You just need to ask your questions in the areas where those with the knowledge are. I think you'll find many are willing to help, if they are asked.

Quote - What one has to assume is, if the dsf, duf system removes the injection channels and the channel conflicts of PMB's and FMB's which is a great advancment instead of having to open files and check for channel conflicts of add ons, it will only be a matter of time until the following occurs:
1.) Some person like Snarly, PhilC, Netherworks, Semideu, the Perfect injection crew, D3D create a script set that creates the files from a fully loaded V4 and converts them back out for you to the duf format so the channel conflicts are history and they load into the defiault Genesis Character set to your perferred character V4 or V5, etc and possibly the content (clothes) you want to conform to your target character.
2.) Some such advancement is written into P10, PP201X, which allows for auto reading of duf based data files to cut down on file size of saved off characters. ala PMD's but using duf's automatically. Double click on the figure in your poser library and the morphs load like you can do now by hacking a cr2 of V4 or M4, and when you conform a clothing item it reads the duf's in the character and adds them to the cloth (ala auto fit)
My take is that V4, M4 content is compatible with a little to a lot of fiddling. But over time that will eventually become a thing of the past (the fiddling part not the content) as smart third party minds figure out ways to make advancement the original creators didn't invision. That is the beauty of the Poser verse. People dreaming up things and ways to do things that were considered impossible.
Me, I want to load up how I invision a scene and spend my time on lighting and composition. I can do that right now with V4, M4 and other new WM'd characters quickly. Maybe use morphing clothes or Xdress or WWII when I have to in a pinch for Older or other character content. Not spend time fiddling hoping something will work.
The DSON thing is a huge leap forward it appears. Just needs the rough edges removed and a little more to occur automatically. That will come with time and some of the smarter 3rd party minds here and or The SM-Poser development crew in the next version given enough time to apply their tricks of the trade so to speak.

I wish the mods lots of patience, endurance, and motivation. Trying to get a forum back under control is not the easiest task, and it comes with a lot of, shall we say, hard feelings, and little appreciation.
As a long time lurker, I've watched the forums slowly move from politeness to brashness to outright coarseness.
Thank you in advance for the effort.

Thread: So I'll Ask Again, Where are the Men? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - ksears, Genesis isn't really a final solution for Poser. It's a lot of work to get clothes to fit (if they don't explode), and certain parts of the anatomy (the calf, for instance) appear too low poly for serious anatomical renders. Nice for the occasional render, particularly if you need monsters and half humans/anthros. But I would not organize my runtime around it.
Using DS isn't a solution, either, as its render engine cannot perform up to standards. Others have other reasons for not using it. We've heard them all before. As the thread is in the Poser forum, I think we can agree that those of us posting in this thread who want male content, want it for Poser.
It's not a DS vs Poser issue. It's an "until SM has a Genesis" for Poser, males aren't going to get support issue. Until Genesis, males were suffering the same fate in DAZland. And while things aren't equal, they are getting much better over there.
Over here it is still WAY too much work for the vendor, and it's getting worse not better. Before too much longer the Poserverse is going to see even more splits as vendors decide which, if any, newPoser-WM characters they are going to provide morphs for -- even on the female side. Each of the different morphs and body shapes is a lot of work, and in many cases the morphs for the different figures won't work together. Then you have to take the different WM into account, which compounds the issue.

I work with male figures here a lot (PG ratings - fully clothed thank you)... a total catalog of 21 male characters used constantly. And for the last year, they've all been based off of Genesis -- bought Gen4 converter the 2nd or 3rd day it was available and haven't looked back. Before that it was mostly Michael4, and rarely James. James was ONLY used in far off shots because he looks like crud and has NOTHING that fits him. M4 is a bit better, but not by much. I toyed with Apollo, but we all know where that went.
Genesis has changed the game. Suddenly the male figures are supported. And the support for males is climbing, not declining. A new business suit is due out soon from SickleYield/Marieah and it's ultra NICE. It works for both genders. If one has a tee-shirt for Vx and it is suitably gender neutral (collar/hem wise) then autofit it to a male Genesis and there you go. Need clothes for K4? Not a problem any more... even for K4 males. I've taken tee-shirts made for K4 and used them on Michael5, and they look GREAT! Add in the use of the Fabricator, and people are happy. I rarely hear complaints about clothing the male characters around here any more... and they no longer have to wear the same outfit scene after scene after scene.
The fact is that it is too much work for the return for the male figures with Gen4 or newPoser-WM. If a vendor makes an outfit for M5, then it can instantly be used on almost any character (including toons) -- David, Hiro, Vicky, Aiko, Steph, Hitomi, Jasmin. This increases the sales potential way beyond just one piddly male character, for little or no extra work.
