I'd love to hear it with music, maybe that's an application the guys at the top can look into for the future. Oh I wouldn't want to hear it if I didn't like the words. It is really quite lovely.

Thread: Alone In The Dark - a writing challenge! - Now in voting!! | Forum: Writers
Although I have done my share of crying alone in the dark, and certainly waited for the monster under my bed to go to sleep, I'll share something else.
Alone In The Dark
One night, all of my kids were out. I decided to wait up in the living room. I lay down on the couch with a book and fell asleep. While I was asleep the power went out. I have a very large bed. I don't often lay on the couch and never sleep there.
Some time after the power went off, a neighbor came home. The slamming door woke me up I rolled over to turn on the bedside lamp. CRASH!!
I landed on the floor. I was very dioriented. The first thing I did. Not reach for the light, not assess the amount of damage, not even call out to see if the kids had come in. I very quickly scanned the totally dark living room to see if anyone had noticed my fall from grace!
I sat there a minute and realized how foolish that was, to see who noticed me falling off my couch in a completely darkened room. I began to laugh. I was laughing so hard I couldn't get off the floor!
Then I began laughing harder. I wondered what the neighbors or my children would think. What's she doing in there in the dark, laughing like a maniac? This made me laugh so hard I was afraid I would embarass myself further. I was still laughing so hard I couldn't get up.
In walked the kids! There were tears pouring down my face, and I still could not stop. One turned to the other and said, " I guess we didn't need to worry about Mom being afraid to be alone in the dark". I just made it to the batrhroom! It took almost an hour to explain the hysterics. We ate ice cream in the dark so it wouldn't melt.
After that when ever anyone was feeling down, someone would say, " Do I need to turn off the lights and get the ice cream?".

WOW! I'm stunned! Thanks to everyone! I think since February is always connected with hearts and flowers, we should switch it up, but still tie in. Love is an incredibly intense emotion. How about we have a challenge about intensity. The possibilities are endless!
Intense colour, feeling, amount of hours in a piece, whatever the word brings up in your mind. Hope the entries are as varied as possible. Can this challenge be posted out front with a great big invite for all the forums? It would be great to get as many people involved as possible. Before anyone suggests I should go ahead and do it, I have no idea how.

Hey Jen,
I have no idea how, but if you put this out front and invited everyone since the challenge is really fairly simple in nature, we might get other types of artists to try their hands at words. there are many who add a few lines to their print work and several are quite good. Just a thought.

" So, " he continued, " what the heck are we going to do now?" He dropped his head into his hands. She sat, unsure of the proper response to this. Her intel chip assured her that this leaking around the eyes was normal for his species. She was not programed for it herself.

Hey should we put an invite out front? Invite even nonwriters to try their hand? It could make this a lot more interesting. I have no idea how to put in a url tag thingie to link them in, do you?

The laughter, taking him completely by surprise forced him to respond in kind. They sat and laughed. This man and the android, at everything and nothing. Then came the uncomfortable silence at the end of the joke.

He certainly had that deer in the headlights, can't remember how to breath sense of performance anxiety. She sat, no obvious signs of distress, simply, waiting. He searched his mind for the right thing to say, blankness. " how is it possible," he wondered, " to be rendered speechless by an inanimate object?"
