Welcome, Fractal is not a program but some kinds of math formulas that bring very nice designs and pictures and we create images from them that have a great aesthetic appeal. For softwares, please have a look there:

Or you do like some are doing: using multiple personnalities, sorry, identities :-D! Miche

Vivian, I am blushing while reading you message. You're among mu favorite artists (you can check on my R-sity home page) almost since the beginning so what you say touches me deeply. Miche

Linda, Thank you for your good words. I am moved. I would like to be less stereotyped in my way to thank you and say it warms my heart but I feel out of words. Miche

I prefer this new feature. I am a fan of (to use some HTML feature) target="_blank". The machine does it for me. I don't have to think about doing it myself. Once seen, you close. You can ask for many pictures at the same time and not one by one. 3DCommune has it from the beginning.
Thread: Tried UF *AGAIN*....wish it had the ease of use as XenoDream | Forum: Fractals
What says Tresamie is a good advice. The Uf list is where I learnt the software and I met some people that became good friends and are still. The learning curve is too steep for a person by her/himself. I used many fractal programs: Fractint, most of Stephen Ferguson's ones, then tried UF in 1999. I tried since then other fractal programs but always returned to it. When I learnt it, I had already some experience with Photoshop so layers and masks were not a problem for me. For somebody having done such before, this is easier. I am not a mathematician and I exploit errors that I see will give aesthetically interesting results. So, don't feel discouraged because you deviate. Deviating can be very creative. Miche D.
Thread: Browsing with Opera | Forum: Community Center
Ardiva, Yes, I know you're just a member as I checked if you were an admin or not and thank you for your solicitude. If it works in Firefox doesn't mean it should work in Opera. When a website make some changes, they can forget to make tests in one of the browsers and I needed to check if it was the case. Suppose I go to the Opera community and they say 'have you checked with the website?'. I applied bjergtrold's suggestion and it worked. Thank you bjergtrold. Miche D.

How come it used to work OK until Saturday? I didn't change any setting or version of Opera. So, it CANNOT be Opera and I won't contact them. Did you make some changes in R-sity during the week-end without testing completely? Miche D.
Thread: Remove Scanner Banding | Forum: Photography
jcv2, It worked. I scanned by turning them in different positions like you suggested, 90 degrees each time as this is the only available possibility, and I got a good render at 90 & 270 degrees, this one being the best. I didn't even need to combine them in my photo-editing software. A so simple idea! Thanks a lot! Miche

firestorm, As you didn't tell if you were using psp or photoshop, I also tried it from the scanner software. To no avail. Miche

firestorm,
Your solution doesn't work for me. When I do an 'adjust levels' in Photoshop or 'Manual Histogram' (whatever name in English) command in PSP, as the photo needs tonal calibration, it becomes visible.
Michelle A.
This is not my issue as I scan in millions of colors and not in 8 or 16 bits. However, I will make a search on 'scanner banding' as you suggested it.
As my information on the scanner seems incomplete, it is a HP ScanJet 3970. This is a flatbed with a slide module. I share your idea it might be faulty. The mirror in the module has some texture that looks like the banding. I tried to clean it with lens cleaner and a photographer cloth to no avail. However, I bought it last summer. For the moment I would prefer waiting before buying a new one.
