As I recall, last year they made an announcement that that would happen. They had to turn it off so you could buy multiple grab bags or what ever the Halloween specials were.

Thread: superfly renders? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Here is the London character. The left side is Superfly and the right side is Firefly.
Some of the materials need to be tweaked to work with Superfly on the older textures. Like the eyes.

Thread: Stonemason goes to China without me! | Forum: Carrara
OK, I edited a couple of the material files and got them to work. I opened them in notepad and replaced all backslashes with forward slashes and the file opens fine.
Thread: Stonemason goes to China without me! | Forum: Carrara
They do have material files this time, but they do not seem to work in Carrara. If import an obj, it imports to the correct location, but cannot find the material file. the obj files are not in the runtime folder, but in a general folder at the same level. Then Carrara starts looking for a file called texturesstonemasonavisctMeatalBeam.jpg where the actual filename in the material file is is texturesstonemasonav1sctMetalBeam.jpg under the runtime folder.
Edit: well that did not work. there is a backslash ( the forum will not display a backslash symbol) between textures and stonemason and stonemason and av1, but the files are under an sct not an av1 subdirectory/
You can hunt the files individually and get them loaded, but it is not seamless.

Thanks jonstark,
I always gave up after brushing more hair inside the head than out. Didn't know what the push tool did! Thanks for taking the time to make these tutorials.

Thread: Carrara Newbie here, some how to Questions | Forum: Carrara

And now I am going to ask a very "dumb" question... just what ARE/is HDRI .... lights? and if so... still... what does it mean exactly? I know there is such a thing in Poser but I never really understood that lighting concept/type.

HDRI is High-dynamic-range imaging. They can be used both for background and global illumination.
Download one of the free ones and click on the Scene in the instances tab. Select background and tell it HDRI and load the image. You will not see anything until you render.
In the render room, check sky light and indirect light and the HDRI will illumiate the scene with no other lights.

Thread: Carrara 8.5 sale | Forum: Carrara
Out of curiosity, I downloaded the C85 Native content zip and took a look at it. When you open it, there are two sub directories: Carrara_8.5, and Content.
The stuff in the Carrara_8.5 folder is the Carrara stuff and goes to where you keep your presets.
The stuff in the Content folder is the DAZ stuff and goes where you keep your Studio files.
All of the Carrara 8.5 Native content and the Carrara 8.5 Pro Native content is just shaders for Genesis. If you don't plan on using Genesis, there is no point worrying about these files. All of the true Carrara content is in the Carrara 8.0 Native Content zip (your shapes, leaves, scense, lights, etc.).
I was not, by any means, recommending that you use DIM, I was just telling you where DIM installed the stuff to.
Thread: Carrara 8.5 sale | Forum: Carrara
Quote - OK, here we go, Just where am I suposed to put the C8.5 native content because DAZ has made it purposly hard to install any of this with out the DLC or CMS. I can find no matching folder names to drop the native content in to.
I have my Carrara loaded onto C:DAZ 3DCarrara8.5 and dim installed some of the Native Content to Presets under that directory. The hair caps got loaded into my runtime directory.
Don't forget to load the Carrara 8 Native content, unless you already have that installed from a prior version, or else the presets, etc will not be there.
They could also go into the My Shaders (etc) directory.

Thread: Applying a reference image | Forum: Carrara
Quote - I understand that Carrara does not allow a simple way to project a background image for creating a scaled model. Apparently I have to apply the reference images (top and side views) to planes. These images are .tif files. Will somebody please explain how I am to do this?
Carrara 7Pro; Win 7
Thank you.
I'm on 8.5 now, but it should be the same. Go into the vertex modeler. On the right hand side, there are four tabs called Model, Morph, Bones, and Global. Click on the Global Tab.
Just underneth the tabs, it says Backdrop. There are three areas Front/Back, Left/Right, and Top/Bottom. To the right are three buttons with ... on them. Click on the button, and browse to the file you want. There is also an Enable check box. Check these. On my system you do not see the reference files in the directors camera, but if you select the top camera, you see the image you loaded for Top/Bottom. It is the same with the Front/Back and the Left/Right Cameras.

Thread: The Ask Dr Stan Thread: | Forum: Carrara
Sorry Stan, but I'm not seeing that in 8.5. Left figure had the clothing dragged into the scene and fitted to the first Genesis character, the Right figure I double clicked to load the clothing as you suggested.
As far as I can see, the poke through is identical.

The problem is you are looking for HDRI files that wont show up in the carrara browser, simple as that. Carrara's browser does not show HDRIs. You browser to them when you go to load them to your scene in the HDRI menu. scene/background/HDRI.
They are setup as presets, so they do show in the browser. Of course, that all depends on where they are installed.
Any Carrara content I get is loaded into the main directory. That way the presets work. If you load them into another directory, the presets don't work correctly. Well, at least for me.
