Thread: New user question | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi mandy2uk,
Poser 7 is a big application, and you cannot eat the entire thing in one bite. So don't try. I myself just purchased Poser 7. However I am familiar with Poser 4 and 5 ... so my learning curve is not as steep.
For a novice ... your best bet is to play with the software.  And play with it a lot. That is the fun part.
I am sure that there are others here who can do a better job giving you link suggestions ... ah ... like acadia just did. :-D
-Cheers,
Nik Natas

OK OK. Jeez. I wonder why I waited this long. Everyone have a happy 2/2/2002. (2-day?) -Nik

I recomend you look in Renderosity turorials section (look to your right under Features). I believe that the "Poser3 to Bryce" tutorial will help you, even though you are a Poser4 user. -Nik

I looked for a Vicky update file on daz3d the other day, and didn't see it. I must be a dumbarse, because I looked again, and there it was. Thanks a million. That solves my problem nicely. Now I've got to go re-load all my damn MTs. :-] -Nik
Thread: Newbie Work, Please Comment | Forum: Vue
Thanks Larry, I do tend to get bogged down in the technical stuff. I feel like I pulled this one off with more luck than skill. However I do like it too. :-) And thanks for the info, Varian. I found a neat tutorial on tides in the tutorial section, like you suggested. It's a Bryce tutorial, but I think the concepts apply. Also, you made me realise I was forgetting to adjust the highlight color on my material. Doh. :-P Also, I should clarify my newbie status. I've been playing with both the demo versions of Bryce and Vue for a few months off and on. Also I've been diddling with Poser4 for ... jeez ... maybe a year and a half now. Just hobby stuff, nothing serious. :-) Wait a minute, I just checked your web site, Varian. I feel like a total newbie now. Love your work. Hmmm ... and it does seem like I remember a wave in the free stuff somewhere. I'll scout around a bit. Anyways, I'm glad to be here. I hope to contribute something to the forum. Long live Vue! -Nik
Thread: Does Poser support multi processors? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Bummer, ain't it? Lots pro 3D apps support multi-threaded rendering, but not Poser. I hope Curious Labs fixes this in Poser 5. But what LoboUK says is correct. Two procs will help you some. NT will load balance Poser onto one proc and the OS threads onto the other. -Nik

If anybody but the Yankers makes it the the World Series this year, I'll be happy. Go Sox! -Nik, a sad little Rangers fan
Thread: How much RAM is enough? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
A good rule of thumb. Load up your application(s), and start using them. If you notice lot's of disk activity (the hard drive light is flashing a lot, and little tick, tick, tick noises) while you are working, you need more RAM. Expect disk activity when you save files. But if you see constant activity, no matter what you are doing, you need more RAM. And if you're running Windows and have a buttload of little icons in your tray (the little thing that the clock is in on the start bar), then you should think about uninstalling some of that nonsense. A bunch of little background apps can suck your memory dry. -Nik

Thread: I have a question on Zygote and Victoria. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
They are promising some free morphs for her "really soon", to be posted on there site. Ethnic morphs and some others. I would guess that they probably won't continue making Vicky morphs for free, after that. -Nik
Thread: Victoria, a waste of time? A poll. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
<> My 2 coppers: Not a waste of time. Watch the galleys, if you don't believe me. At the forfront of the debate are two main issues. Cost and and the butt-ugly factor. As Trav has stated, the ugly complaint doesn't hold water anymore. With all the neat-o mophs he and others are providing (for free), Vicky users should be kissing the ground they walk on. However, Vicky's cost is something we can't really do anything about. People are acustomed to finding good Poser stuff for free. Eve, being a good example. They can't rationalize spending that kinda dough. I would make a plea to Zygote to drop her price in about a month or so. Don't raise her to $100 for Bog's sake! If they dropped her to, say $30 bucks after demand tappers off, then they could probably clean up quickly. $30 buck is something that the casual user should be able to swallow for such an awsome model. Personally, I would not care if her price went down, after shelling out the $60. Hell, I'd forfeit $30 just to see more general exceptance in the comunity. -Nik <>
