many thanks for the very helpful replies!
I guess the main reason for considering P8 is simply the price ($99 upgrade vs $199 sidegrade). I've also come across some slightly conflicing info in the forum, with some suggesting that pro might actually be slightly slower than p8 for smaller scenes. Anyway thanks again - the replies are really helpful!

Many thanks for the responses! I now have a much better idea of what the texture is like (Damsel, one of the creators, was extremely helpful too)
Quote - I hate the way Daz has such small promos. You can hardly see the texture. I seldom buy characters from them unless I know the merchant from RR and trust them.
I couldn't agree more! Also, while I understand their reasons for promotional shot restrictions, I really think they should have some sort of mechanism for allowing customers to actually see what they're buying in advance! (possibly a forum that people could specifically register for - or even automated promotional email that people could request for specific products). Whatever, there are certainly many Daz products (and more than a few here) that I might have purchased if the promotional shots were detailed enough and/or the texture fully visible... I strongly suspect that quite a few others have a similar perspective.
Thanks again for the responses everyone!!!

Thanks for the advice :) I've just posted the request in their product showcase thread, so hopefully that'll reach them fairly quickly...
edit: to my mind, the character looks fairly old (mid 20s?) and certainly very 'womanly' ...so hopefully there shouldn't be a problem with nude promotional renders here...

Hi there - I'm interested in buying your lovely Gioia character, but was wondering if it might be possible to see some additional product images first? Specifically, it would be very helpful if I could see unclothed front and back renders of the character (at reasonably high resolution), along with some close up shots of specific details - ideally, hands, feet, knees, nipples and elbows.
I realize that it's Daz policy to restrict the type of promotional images used, however this makes buying decisions rather difficult (I've been disappointed on several occasions in the past because of not being able to fully see what I was getting in advance!)
Many thanks in advance for your help with this!
ps - I PM'd this request to you at Daz before noticing the product thread here. anyway, I thought you might see a post here first - sorry for any inconvenience!

Mostly I get very helpful responses from vendors, but I've had a few problems contacting people via PM at Daz - I think some vendors might log in less frequently there. I'm also not sure if there's any restriction on Daz vendors distributing nude images of their products? ...in fact, I've just noticed that the character has been advertised in the product showcase here, again with a clothed figure - I should have checked there before posting here oops!

Content Advisory! This message contains nudity, profanity
Attached Link: merkin
I've got some pretty good results using Christiandarkin's 'merkin' product (although, like all hair, it can slow renders). It used to be available here but might possibly be on sale elsewhere now. I've included a link to the old product page for information. The lack of a pubic hair object in V4 is also rather annoying because it seems to have had the effect of increasing the number of characters with painted on hair - which never looks very good (imho)! Painted hair also frequently reduces the realism possible with props such as the merkin - especially if the colors don't match...

Very cool accomplishment, kawecki! Looks like it could be very useful and I'd certainly be very interested in buying if you release it :)
jenay - love the renders! (shame you couldn't share the props...)

Cool, many thanks for replying - it's very reassuring to know I'm thinking along the right lines! (and that the basic configuration is likely to suit poser 7).
8 GB of ram does sound like a very attractive idea too... :)
Thanks again!

Quote - I think there was one for the G2 females over at CP!
Not sure if this is what you meant, but there's a leather-lookish trench coat for G2 females over there (it's free for passport members, but $5.99 otherwise).

Thread: vendor promotional images | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - The whole # of images thing, some on the front page and some you have to click throuh at the bottom is kinda something that depends on the vendor's off site storage situation.
When you see more images on the front page than the one allowed at the top it means that the vendor has formatted the description to call off site images. For people like me, who have plenty of bandwidth on their web hosting package, hot linking to off site images for promos is no big deal. But if a vendor is scrunched for bandwidth they almost have to deal with the promos as set up in the system here. Even using image hosting sites is iffy cause of nudity rules in the TOS, and many still have bandwidth restrictions.
Good to know that that's how it works. Use of hosting sites for more images on the frontpage wouldn't be a problem as far as nudity is concerned, as the frontpage doesn't allow nudity in any case (vendors almost always restrict nudity to the 'additional images' part provided by renderosity). If the hosting site allows the use of images for commercial reasons (I'm not sure if that's generally the case?) - that might be a solution for some vendors?
Quote - I'm also going to agree with surreality on the monitor issue. My rendering machine is my laptop, and what looks great on that LCD screen looks absolutely horrible on the old CRT attached to my desktop.
I'm sure that's the case and I don't think anyone would deny that good monitors are capable of displaying more detail etc. But that's not the source of the problem in my case (I suspect there would probably still be a relative difference between 'good' and 'poor' promo sets on any single monitor, anyway).
@Bluecho - great to know that you're working on a V4 version (really hope you find a solution to the INJ pose issue soon! :))
