Hi,
congratulations for your christmas gift :-)
It is no problem to re-install Vue on another machine and re-activate it there. Keep in mind that the license only allows one installation, so you should uninstall it on the old pc.
For the returning of the manual, you should aks eon's support :-)

Thread: Purchase Carrara 6 - Where? | Forum: Carrara
Yepp, did the same.
The good thing is:
Shortly after I have ordered the book, I have received an e-mail with the Carrara6 serial and was able to buy the update to Carrara 7 :-))

Yepp, they have changed the update :-))
Although it reports the same built number, I now have:
-working metacloud previews
-and YES, options can now be changed
Seems this is the working version of Vue 7.4 :-)))

Just noticed that:
The update file I have downloaded first was:
179.149.333 bytes
The one I have downloaded a few minutes ago has a size of:
179.144.051
Seems e-on has changed something.....
I'll give it a try.

FYI
I have reported it yesterday night (german time) to e-on.
I' have just received an answer from Lee (e-on support):
Hi Ralf,
Thanks for the report - I was able to verify here. I'm forwarding to the developers.
Best regards.

Sorry, it's me again.
I now can change my preferences because :
After the tests above I have ended with 12 instances of Vue in the task manager.
Killed them manually, restarted Vue and reset options to default.
Until I don't change anything in the display tab settings, anything is fine.
Strange: Things which worked in the beta, did not work in the final update....
Good night
Ralf

Thread: New Infinite Build is out (42999) | Forum: Vue
Hi there,
just installed this built (first install was over the latest beta, second one was over the latest official update).
Both give me some kind of strange things with the display options. Here is what happens to me:
The first start of the built makes me smile, because the previews of the metaclouds are back, and the cloud opengl preview works. Preview rendering of saved plant species is ok too.
Now comes the point where I unchecked the "limit opengl polygon" box.
After the next start of Vue I don't have:
Scene and line antialiasing, and I don't have checked any of the opengl boxes, except the limit polygone one.
I can check this boxes without problems and I have antialiasing and opengl previews, until I restart Vue.
All boxes are unchecked again....
To do a simple test: In Vue's main window try to change the "polygon count" to "free resources" and restart Vue.
Be warned: I end up with "polygon count" again. And (this was my third try) changing this setting unchecks the display boxes too.
The "Test video button" says my nvidia 8800 card would perform well .......
Running Vue with admin rights on Vista does not solve the problem.
Done a few other tests:
It seems that I can't change anything in the display options tab. Settings are switched back after the next start.
Anyone else with similar problems ?
Ralf

Thread: 7.4 Display Issues | Forum: Vue
Hi triangle,
although it does not solve the preview metacloud preview, it's good to here that it is not my very special problem :-)
And I can confirm the problem with changing light color on a spectral model.
I thinkg, this is why it is called "beta" :-)

Thread: Vue 7.5 revealed. Ouch. | Forum: Vue
Just my thoughts:
As I read the news about 7.5 the first time at E-on's site I was confused about the pricing like many others.
Pay 295,00 for the upgrade and when Vue8 will come out pay again the full update price...
The more I think about it, I did not fand that too bad.
With the 7.4 update we will receive a lot of features of the 7.5 update for free.
The features not included in the free update are probably requested by some "pro users".
Those "pro users" usually have a "pro budget" for software updates, and for them $ 295,00 isn't that much.
For me - using Vue as a hobby - the missing features are not very interesting and I am glad to
get some new features for free.
And I do not have to pay twice for the 7.5 update and the 8 release.

Re-Installing the drivers was my first idea .
Fortunally with a beta driver the problem is obviously solved :-)

I wish I could think in this "creative way".
Never had thought about to use plants not as plants.
I really like the idea.

Thread: Vue 7 render/lighting settings | Forum: Vue
I like the idea, because I am testing various render settings too :-)
Obviously the new render engine does not need high values. As an example have a look at the render (anti-Aliasing) settings the "PeakingThrough" scene. Although the scene uses low settings the render looks great for me.
For outdoor scenes I usually follow Peggys advice and don't use higher settings than 46% for the overall quality. For indoor radiosity scenes I sometimes leave this advice and use higher values.
Texture anti-aliasing is always turned off - except in very rare cases.
Object anti-aliasing is usually at optimized/crisp.
One absolutly subjective point: The "Final" preset in Vue7 produces imho better results than the one frome Vue6.
Another subjective one - because I don't have done exactly compared this:
The Vue7.1 update has decreased the render speed a little bit.
