Thanks for the suggestions. I figured out what's going on and my problem is solved. When I added those runtime libraries from my server to Poser, the drive letter don't show up that I have mapped as drive "W". This was not the case in Poser previously. I must of mapped them through Network locations the first time and forgot about it. I cleared those runtimes out and attempted to add them again and I couldn't, I had to go through Network locations. So I added them that way, then I opened up my LibraryPrefs.xml and changed the path there, I am now able to work the way I want to. I just added a figure to my library like normal, no problems.

You can load but not save with a UNC parht (servernamefolder). This has never been possible. To save to the server, map that parent folder to a drive letter and load that as runtime. Here you can load and save from Poser.
Indeed, the server location is mounted as a drive letter, but when I add the runtime to Poser it is handled this way (by Poser). I'm not doing anything different than what I've been doing for the last ten years. Something has changed with Poser.
Very strange indeed. I have one machine where most of my runtimes are on another PC and that works fine.
To be sure, I saved a figure just now onto a network drive and i have no problem.
Could you do a test and save a figure to another folder which has a shorter path, with a pathname and name with only a-z letters to the network drive? Maybe it is allergic again for # character.
Thanks. I did try some other file names without the # char in them. It must not be a problem because it saved fine on my D drive that way. I am going to remove the server runtime libraries and add them in again. Sometimes (with Linux) you can have a permission problem where you save a file on one machine, and not have permission to open it on another machine. I got that straightened out a couple of years ago, took a lot of work, had a lot to learn, but I have not had a problem like that for a very long time. All of the files in this project where done on the same machine I am using Poser on as well, so I'm pretty sure it is not the server.

It looks like you have a mixed set of path separators there. Is the server mount point LD2? That part's fine, but the rest of the path has mac style colon separators. The two cannot be mixed. Either all colons or use whichever separator the OS has as default. '/' for macOS/linux and '' for Windows (with ':' only valid following a drive letter).
You mentioned you edited the CR2 to fix a broken pmd reference. I'd suggest trying to remove the mount point from the path and have it be Runtime relative. That way, it's up to Poser's library to resolve which Runtime it will look in for the files and the files themselves don't have to refer to specific drive letters or server mount points.
I forgot to mention in regards to the PMD path. My CR2 did not have a PMD attached to it initially. That part was added automatically by Poser when I saved the figure. Since I ended up saving it on my D drive in the Default Poser Download folder, it used that path. I want to copy it to my real runtime folder, so the path gets broken. The path's for the .OBJ and the textures remained as I intended. Thanks.

I have always used relative paths in my CR2, as follows: morphBinaryFile :Runtime:libraries:Character:Props:Sci-Fi Equipment:Sci-Fi Containers:Crate #4.pmd
figureResFile :runtime:Geometries:arnieSpace:Sci-Fi Equipment:Sci-Fi Containers:SF_Crate_04.obj
I've never had this problem with Poser in the past, starting with Poser4. I've made hundreds of CR2 files without a problem. As for the PMD, I hardly think it is necessary for a simple hinge on a box anyways. I did not type the path, I am just adding the figure to a library that has been imported to Poser in the normal way. Poser is coming up with the path formatted that way. I might add, I am on a Windoze machine. The server is a Linux machine. I am able to load objects from the library but not save. I still have the problem as of this morning, I was unable to create a folder or add a prop I made to the runtime on the server from within Poser. I have the permissions working on the server, it took a lot of work to get that ironed out initially, but I have not had a problem with permissions for a couple of years. Thanks for your input anyways, I will continue to work on this problem, but something has definitely changed with Poser because I have not changed my workflow.

I might add, I've never had this problem before with Poser, adding files to the runtime's on my server. I like to keep my runtime libraries there so I can work with different computers. The thing is so huge it would be a task to copy it all to one machine anyways. I tried saving the file without the # in the file name as well.
Thread: Poser Install Directory | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
The main reason I prefer to install Poser outside of Program Files is for working with scripts. I'm not a Python power user, but I do some edits on scripts and some of the Python scripts I have write stuff, even create new scripts. Of course none of the scripts work now after I did the update, so there is that problem. Anyways, I still consider my computer to be mine, and I don't like software that don't let me do what I want to do. (Like Windoze maybe?) "PoserPython offers user-writable storage (PoserTempLocation and PoserPrefsLocation)". This is news to me, like I said, not a Python guru. I learned something today, thanks FVerbaas.

Thanks for the info MarianneR. I was going to install it anyways, but it just bothered me, so I put it off for awhile. For some reason the slashes would not show up in my post, but my Poser location is the same as yours, been doing it for years. Most software I let go to Program Files and forget about it, but Poser is more "Hands On" and Windoze is kind of touchy about that directory. I realize it's for security so that's OK.

The Poser figures are always lacking support from the content creators because they are a pain to work with, not because they are ugly. Pauline and Paul are not ugly, but they are not supported. Those G2 figures did not even have a symmetrical mesh I don't think (they are kinda ugly as well). I have Anastasia in my runtime and she is not ugly either, she's pretty much naked though, most of the time. If there was a good amount of Sci-Fi clothes for any of these figures available, I'd use the figures. I'm not advocating for Genesis support though. Poser needs its own figures to survive. New people are not going to invest in the program if they need to go out and get 3rd party figures from the get go. I think Poser has been lacking in it's base figures for years, they get no support, they just take up space on your hard drive.
It's changing though. Before SM officially announced the selloff, they advertised LF as the new premiere poser figure. So it seems like we now have our new Poser female, she's just being sold on the market first before she's packaged with the program. LF was also just updated to make it even easier to produce stuff for.
LF has support of vendors (the most I've seen since the G2 figures) and has a constantly growing list of items for her. It's wonderful to see a poser figure get so much support and such variety of items to choose from, her popularity is good news for Poser.**
I agree. I bought in to LaFemme right away. If LF is indeed to be the official Poser figure I'm fine with that, as long as the developers are compensated accordingly. Been needing a male figure for quite some time as well. I'm not knocking Dusk or saying he's ugly. There is not enough products (Sci-Fi/Fantasy stuff). There was never enough stuff for M4 even. V4 products 100 to 1 compared to M4 products. I like my woman figures but for fictitious renders you need some men in there as well. I hear there will be a couple new Poser compatible males coming out soon. I will pick them up, but if there is not stuff to use with them they will just be hanging out on my hard drive for eternity.

More thoughts: The Poser figures have always been lacking, Pauline and Paul where better but hard to work with (from a development point of view). What I really want is something like the old creature creator for the V4/M4 figures. It was a complete system of morphs, props and materials for making unique fantasy and sci-fi figures. So much fun to work with. There really insn't anything like that for the Hivewire figures or any other that are compatible with Poser at the moment. There are some character packages available, but I want the complete package. I think it would be neat if the next Poser had a system like that in place for the next Poser figures. In fact I think a system like Make Human would be a gas for the next Poser figures. A quality base mesh, fully rigged, but you could dial your figure in on the spot when you load it (expandable$$ of course). Get rid of the face room in favor of a Make Human style room. (It's open source, hint)

I am mostly interested in Superfly development myself. When I try to reproduce a Blender shader in Poser the nodes I need are usually not there. I also could care less about Genesis figures. I've spent my last penny at DAZ years ago (literally all the money I had). New Poser figures are definitely welcome of course. I don't do super close up renders anyways so Project Evolution, LaFemme, Hivewire figures satisfy my needs. By the way, why would you say that? (I want to hear what you say)
It will be interesting to see what happens to say the least. If and when a new Poser comes out, I'll buy it I'm sure. As far as Smith Micro's sales being way down, it's no wonder. You can't just sell the the same version of your flagship program forever, every prospective buyer would have bought it by now. I think the bulk of those sales went to Moho, it's actually quite popular for making cartoons. They dropped the ball on Poser's development and the new version was far from being complete. They canned the development team and the replacements could not handle the job. Plus the fact that they never handled their content marketplace very well, not much income there to bolster software development. I've seen it happen in my own life. Years ago a manufacturing company I worked for laid off 20 employees, myself included, and replaced us with younger and cheaper employees. They lasted 3 years and went out of business. I hope Renderosity gets some experienced programmers to work on Poser, first and foremost. The original team may not be available now, but that would be a blessing. The next Poser has to be more than a new splash screen. I would be happy with improvements to existing things, like a expanded Superfly engine and a better cloth room, but a lot of people would want more I'm sure.
Thread: whenever I try to use the Monthly Coupon | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
Thanks JeniferC for the info. I probably never tried the second field, but I'm pretty sure I put other coupons in the first one and it worked. I'll give it a shot, I actually have some Render Rewards to use this month.
Thread: whenever I try to use the Monthly Coupon | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
When you say "monthly coupon" do you mean Render Rewards? I get "You do not have permission to use this coupon" every time I try to use Render Rewards. I emailed Rendo support about it and did not get a reply. It is not very clear how to use these coupons, and I have had a lot of $$ expire because of this. I found a help wiki about it, and it simply said to paste the code in at checkout. It does not make you feel very welcome here to tell the truth.
