They would be World-Class stupid to let any of them go!!
From the announcement about acquiring Hexagon, but not Eovia Europe, I would say that that has already happened.

Jcleaver,
Even though we did not own Eovia at the time you made the pre-order I can assure you that we will do something for people who have pre-ordered. You will not "get the shaft" but will be getting more than you bargained for.

Hmmm,
Ya mean like a free 'The Civil Servant: For Aiko 3', or a 'Damaru Jigoku for Hiro', or maybe a 'David: Base'? Thrilling, ... cough, cough, cough (trying hard to remain civil).

Thread: Back to a want I have for Carrara | Forum: Carrara
In direct sunlight, the slightly yellow light of the sun pretty much overpowers the bluish color (or colour, if you prefer) of the sky. Step into deep shade, and you just get the bluish cast of the sky without the direct sunlight, hence the need to use the 'shade' white balance setting on your camera, to filter the bluishness (is that a word?) out. If you don't include a sun (or strong distant light) in your scene, what you are creating is a shade lighting situation, which realistically should have a bluish cast. Maybe the thing to ask Eovia for is the equivalent of tungsten/fluorescent/daylight/shade camera filter settings?

Thread: has anyone else ordered the boxed version of carrara 5 yet? | Forum: Carrara
I guess I don't feel quite as strong about it as some others, but I was rather perplexed when I got through the ordering process for the boxed version without seeing any option to add a printed manual. I was certainly hopeing to order one (I can only focus on a PDF on the computer screen for a short while before the eyes and mind go blurry), and I guess I am little upset at looking at two separate shipping charges. I had presumed part of the delay in the boxed version was getting the manual printed, and sort of wonder why Eovia just didn't delay the box shipping (at least for those of us who also wanted to order a printed manual) a bit longer and give people the option of ordering it. (However, I do appreciate Charles' consideration that the cost was reduced accordingly.) rj

Thread: Preset Views | Forum: Carrara
Patrick, Agreed, but one of those views on the pull-down seems to have been dropped (or maybe moved/changed) versus RayDream, which had the 'very' handy 'Drawing Plane' view. The Drawing Plane view allowed a view directly 'overhead' of the current drawing plane, regardless of the tilt of the plane relative to Left/Right/Front/etc. It's OK to use Left or Right views for the initial spline object cross-section, but, if Bend is enabled (and that option is necessary for modeling a variety of objects), subsequent cross-sections quickly tilt away from the Left/Right perspectives. Trying to draw at an angle is no fun, and manipulating the Director view to get close to perpendicular to the current drawing plane isn't either, so the Drawing Plane view saved loads of work/grief. I'm hoping it was just implemented differently in Carrara (or maybe an equivalent approach). Many thanks for the quick reply though. Best Regards, rj
Thread: Caligari TrueSpace | Forum: Carrara
I've used trueSpace some. I believe numeric entry for coordinates and the like are available through right clicking the selection tool. I like both RayDream/Carrara and trueSpace. Both are reasonably intuitive, reasonably priced, and each has its strong points. trueSpace has more tools and available plug-ins, Carrara comes stock with more special effects, both have global illumination (although C2 is first to arrive with caustics), etc. Some objects and scenes seem to align better with Carrara's toolset, some with trueSpace's. Although there are more expensive programs that may offer a bit more, I suspect that most Carrara and trueSpace users are hard pressed just to keep up with those packages continuing progression of new features and capabilities, and that it has gotten to the point where the artist's skills and available time are now pretty much the limiting factors anyway. Enjoy. rj
