If the end goal is to have a larger, more robust user base for version 13 onward then it seems counter productive to split hairs on upgrade versions allowable at the $99 price. If the end goal is to punish some prior version users, well, don't know how well that ever works out for any company. Again, I love the software. But the vibe I'm getting is that the powers that be aren't in any hurry to get my money. Call me crazy, but it seems like it would be a good idea to keep as many poser users in the current version as possible. Larger current version user base would be better for everyone. Sorry, but the tactic of restricting the user base for whatever reasons seems like a really bad move in a highly competitive field.

Wait for the powers that be to have a change of heart and offer a cheaper upgrade path from 11 to 13. Maybe wait for 13 to go on sale. Wait long enough and the straight price, non upgrade, will be more realistic after version 13+ gets released. $200 cost to jump from 11 to 13 is significant when considering how far that money can go towards other software tools or buying poser content. Long time user of Poser here and am also on 11. Love the software, honest and freely admit it. However, $200 is a deal killer for me. Individual cost/reward analysis will vary for each individual. The argument I've seen for the high upgrade cost for 11 owners is "...people upgraded to 12...". No offense meant, but so what? Will poser 13 users who upgraded from 12 stop using the software by offering a more attractive upgrade price to version 11 users looking to upgrade? Not likely. Would the poser community benefit from more poser 11 users upgrading to 13? Probably. If the upgrade price from 11 to 13 was $99 it would be a no brainer and I'd already have jumped on it. The software, I love. The current upgrade price for pre version 12 owners, yeah, not so much. I'll continue to wait.

@shannonhope - Is that a render or is it a photo of 3D print lf your work?
@ironsoul - Not a photo. That's the models as they sit in Modo low poly (BeastMan's whip looks to be subdivided but the rest is straight poly low). I'll knock the dust off the project here in the near future and finish it. Another pass in ZBrush to shore some things up, texture pass in Substance and do the fur elements in ZBrush and toss it back over to Poser. May take me a minute to get back to it but I'll post the finished work when done either here at Rendo or over at my Deviant.

Can't say that I have a goto figure anymore. Poser has come a very long way over the last several years in my opinion. Ever since the GoZ exchange was introduced, creating content has been relatively easy. Nowadays any Poser native figure can be used as a starting point. Merge zones to weight maps, noodle until happy, save out to library. Sculpt and remesh (ZBrush or Blender) the original figure into a totally new one. The original figure is then irrelevant except for using it as a donor rig for the new resulting creation. Sure, rigging needs to be tweaked or some areas totally reworked after marrying the donor rig to the new figure. But, Poser makes that easy too. The only figures I use are the ones that ship with Poser or come with the legacy content download. This is something I've been noodling on just for giggles in spare time. Evil-Lyn started off as G2 Sydney. Skeletor and BeastMan started off as G2 Simon. These figures have the G2 rigs as their base, modified of course, entirely new geometry and UVs. Pipeline is Poser, ZBrush and Modo.

Think it was back in 2006-ish that I purchased a combo deal from eFrontier for Shade 8 Standard and Amapi Pro 7.5. Loved the idea of there being a potential "unified suite" someday of Poserized tools. Reason I was curious about what happened to Amapi rights ownership after SmithMicro was for possible future enhancements within Poser. Whilst the tools from Hexagon were largely incorporated into Carrara, weren't the foundations of the Hexagon tools born from Amapi? Again tho, this was all just out of curiosity and daydreaming. If the rights for the defunct Amapi were just sitting at SmithMicro collecting dust then maybe there could be a collection of code goodies available on the cheap. Would have been a nice value add on the Poser purchase if SmithMicro would have rolled the Amapi rights in with the deal. But eh, enough daydreaming. Back to creating :)

Very happy to see Poser having found a good home with Renderosity! Just out of curiosity, did the purchase of Poser from Smith Micro also by some oddball chance include the rights to (long ago defunct) Amapi? Way back when I had often wondered what could have been if Poser, Amapi and Carrara had all existed under one development roof. Anyhoot, Poser and Renderosity is a great fit! Looking forward to seeing what this next chapter of Poser will bring.
