I've never had carrara crash during in the rendering room. Is this something I have yet to look forward to? Carrara crashes routinely in all of the modelers, after boolean operations, when you change preview window rendering settings, trying to save files, and when entering numeric data, but the rendering engine has seeemed pretty bulletproof to me. Unless its that "render failed" error in the assembly room, that one comes up all the time.
Thread: Just got this news from the Carrara Group | Forum: Carrara
Does anyone here use AMAPI regularly? I downloaded the trial version and was not impressed. I loaded a P4 model into it (DAZ3D's victoria)and it crashed severely the moment I panned the viewpoint around. Even Carrara can handle that much. I figured I already had Carrara and didn't need another buggy program so I immediately deleted it. Is it worth a second look? I have also been looking at Rhino, and playing with the downloaded trial version. What impresses me most is that the Rhino forum seems filled with people's WIP's and discussions of techniques, where the Carrara forum is full of bug reports and workarounds. Maybe I should use rhino for the modeling and Carrara for the render (love those shaders...)?
Thread: Scene Preview in Vertex Modeler? | Forum: Carrara
Aha! I usually modify vertices numerically rather than with the mouse. If I use the mouse to push things around, the preview updates just fine. If I modify vertices numerically, they move in the modeling window, but nothing is ever updated in the preview window. Interesting. I wonder if there is a way to force an update?
Thread: Rendering problem in New window only | Forum: Poser Technical
Bingo! Turns out there was an old HP610C printer driver still there I had forgotten about in addition to my current printer. I uninstalled both, checked poser: rendered fine. Then I re-installed the driver for my current printer. Checked again, and poser still works! It must not have liked the old driver, or at least not having both drivers installed at the same time. Thanks a lot, Jim! It would have taken me quite a while to start looking at printer driver problems!
