I know this thread is a couple of months old but I've been out of circulation awhile and have been paging through lots of posts here to see if upgrading to P6 would be wise. I ALMOST clicked -submit- on the site to get the upgrade (impulsive fella that I am!) but paused and decided to come here to here the pros talk. After reading many threads, it seems I should just wait? P6 sounds great from the splashy marketing stuff with opengl and all that but P5 has worked reasonably well for me since it came out.

Hi Phil! I've heard of that but haven't done it. hmm, I would do a save and navigate to my runtime/libraries/character folder?

Yeah, sounds suspicious. If he's got the cash, he should pay off his MAXED OUT credit cards and then life would be good for him. ;)
Thread: Poser 5 Render Woes | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
So, this is a "known" bug. Problem is knowing it. I searched many forums for info and only through interacting with people here was I able to get it isolated to that one component, the hair. It would be great if there was a "Known Bugs" forum or website somewhere to search. Is there anything like that out "there" anywhere?
Thread: Poser 5 Render Woes | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Ahhh, so that is why it rendered before. I had run "test" renders in P4 mode first. hmm. Thanks for the link...sheesh, somewhat complicated to fix something I had hoped to use easily. Still, there are steps outlined.

Default P5 render settings.
default VM settings.
Now, I could boost the virtual memory settings but surely a naked M3 with the MiHai hair isn't enough to take my gb of ram and more...
Thread: Poser 5 Render Woes | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Yep, the hooded cape renders FAST in both draft and production modes with all the default settings. Two or three seconds, tops. hmm, I lied, I also had some M3 boots in the scene. I'll try rendering those by themselves. pause A LOT slower but both rendered. Slower means about 10 seconds. Ok, you have me thinking now. What else...umm, I had hair as well, forgot about that. I'll add M3 and try again. pause M3, hooded cloak, boots (Moto boots in Michael's Morphing clothes) all rendered. Much slower (3 mins?) but it worked. Ok, I'll add the hair (Hair/Daz Hair/ MiHai Hair) and see. pause Oho...it stopped at "Adding Objects". Strange, I've used that hair before though. hmm. I'll add M3 and the MiHai hair to a new scene by themselves and try rendering. pause The MiHai hair apparently is blowing it up. I'll load that original scene, remove the hair and try to render. The scene renders...paused for half a minute or so on Adding Objects but ended up rendering quite rapidly once it got going. So, why is the MiHai hair causing this distressing problem? Is there a workaround? Regrouping the mesh? Hmm, how would I do that? BTW, thank you very much little dragon for helping me to think straight about troubleshooting this.

Mason said: "...Now do you lock up on an actual render part way through or do you lock at the "add Objects" stage? " I have a sony vaio, 1 gb ram, 3ghz cpu p4, ati radeon 9800 pro graphics (graphics card shouldn't matter to poser though) , LOTS of hd space free, etc. A reasonable machine to run P5 on. Hmm,what else? XP home, new system with minimal software installs. Small Poser5 install. I just installed Freak stuff and Michael3 stuff so I could test with smaller Runtime dir. I can render if I select Poser 4 render but I hang up almost always when I try rendering with Firefly. Michael 3 alone rendered. M3 and bodysuit rendered. M3, bodysuit and hooded cape locks up. Always at "Adding Objects". I lowered bucket size to 20, no change. This is driving me crazy. :) This is my 3rd pc in two weeks. I upgraded my pc a couple weeks ago...loved P5 when it ran but a lot of lockups and strange errors. I eventually switched to a new box, same probs. Yesterday, I exchanged and upgraded to current machine and to my dismay, P5 still hangs but only with Firefly rendering. P5 runs fast everywhere else, loading initially, loading figures and textures and poses, etc. Any thoughts, suggestions? Thanks!
Thread: Another Gorodin Scalemail! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I know this is an old post, but I waas searching for info on this. I bought the Gorodin chain/scale textures for the michael ultra body suit. I followed the instructions in the Readme to uvmap the bodysuit so I could apply the textures to it. I updated M3 so the bodysuit would fit properly, or at least as close as possible. I apply the chain or scale textures (PP) for Poser5 and nothing happens. I did get asked for the location of the bum file. So, I am trying to work with textures that don't work for M3 or/and P5? How do I fix this? I really wanted some chain and scale mail textures. Thanks!

search the forums for stuff by Dr Geep. Too bad these forums don't have advanced searches or "sticky posts" and such.
Thread: Object property window not updating | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Well...I am starting all over. I had purchased a new computer a week ago. All week I have loved the speed and power of the new machine but I've had strange crashes, etc, etc. I took the new machine in today and swapped it for a duplicate this morning and just now reinstalled Poser5 and all the figures, poses, materials, etc. I am going to test this out and see if I get the same problems. All my problems could have been due to the other machine. If I experience the same Poser probs, I;ll post again. Thanks.

Oh HO! So, that solves one problem, thanks. But I never did insert the image I wanted to show. I wonder why the above happens? I can go to Neck and get the same thing, Chest and get the same thing. I can't even do breast morphs with V3 or SP3. lolThread: Object property window not updating | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Using Vicki3. I applied an Expressions morph to her when I had Figure 1, Head selected and it never showed up. In fact, under head/Object/Properties I see this. Under Neck, all morphs were missing. This has been happening a lot. I also am very reluctant to render with Firefly Production because most times it just stops at one point. I have 1.5 gb RAM, 300mhz cpu, 3096 mb initial size for pagefile and a total of 6096 mb for it. I can't figure out where the problem is here. My machine surely should be able to handle things. Perhaps my Poser install is corrupted?? I did apply SP 3 and 4 to it.
