Thread: Fractal Window Weekly...Nov 13-19! | Forum: Fractals
There was an abundence of fantastic images this week, both from popular and well established artists and from those who are lesser known. I don't envy the job of anyone who has to short list work from those eligible. I don't think the 15 slots would be filled the same way by any two people.
(I'll admit that I am pleased that one of my images made it! ;) )
Thread: Thoughts about flames | Forum: Fractals
I have always liked the comparision between fractals and photography. However, many artists have pushed the envolope with compositional fractals containing many fractal elements (flame or otherwise) to create original artistic collages. Other people extend creativity on a more technical side, extending formulea and colouring methods etc. These people are all progressive in their art but the effort put in and even the fact that they are thinking out of the box does not garentee a pleasing piece of art.
Its very difficult to say when something ceases to be a holiday snap and becomes great photography but I hope people keep snapping.

Both the fractal window weekly and the vintage showcase are marvolous efforts. It's great to see the effort that goes into the community aspects of renderosity even though the site backend seems ill equipped to promote it.
Cool to see these past glories and particularly, as always, for showing me greats I previously overlooked.

Thread: Has anyone tried UF4? | Forum: Fractals
Uf 2 still stands as the only shareware app that I've shelled out money for. Upgrading to Uf 3 was a no brainer for me... all those exciting new features and improved interface. Looking at the feature list for Uf 4, I found myself slightly unexcited. I wondered if this was a sympton of a program being too near perfection to allow for must have upgrades. Animation is not of interest to me. Maybe if the creator had thought out of the box and expanded the software in totally new directions I would be a little more excited...
Well, I downloaded it and tried it anyway.
The explorer feature ROCKS and makes it a breaze to explore the changes all those obscure settings hidden away in formulae actually make. This tool allows for much more creative freedom and control and lets the user really direct the exploration involved in image creation with Uf. I'm a little hooked.
Looks like I'll be shelling out for it at some point... (maybe when 4.01 comes out; it will be a little faster and more stable).

Lovely selection of images. There were a good few fine images that you have drawn attention to that I would otherwise have missed ;)
