Also, changing the speed of an animation can be as simple as changing the frame rate of the animation (top left corner of the animation palette). My animated poses are almost always at 30 frames per second. More complex speed changes without changing frame rate can be done using "Retime Animation" in the animation drop down menu at the top of Poser.
Thread: Animation pose malfunction | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hello!
I'm very sorry for not seeing this thread sooner and also sorry you're having problems with one of my products.
Unfortunately, the over-writing of customer's character morphs is a problem in a few of my products for different reasons. In some poses, specific shapes and sizes are important for accurate body part interactions (such as a hand on a hip). Overall, I try to make these animated poses so that most character morphs will not be overwritten but cleaning all those unused morphs out of the poses has always come down to a program I use to quickly clean pose files....and this program has been not working correctly for me in the past year resulting in some products still containing unwanted morph settings.
As previous people here have mentioned, its not easy to take these morphs out by hand when there are some morphs that need to remain. One fix (which is a pain in the butt) is to expand each body part in the animation palette and identify exactly which morphs are being altered that you don't want altered and simply delete the keyframes from that line across all frames and then set them how you want them in frame one (keyframes on frame one are not deleted when using drag boxes to select and delete keyframes).
Knowing exactly which product you're using might help in finding an easier fix or even allowing me to replace your product (once I get my morph cleaner working right). You can email me at stimuli_8@yahoo.com for further assistance.

Quote - Have you adjusted any driver settings ?
I'm pretty sure one of the simple things to do was to set "Use application settings" where that option is offered.
The other possibility is that something part of Windows is interferring, so you might want to try turning off Aero (assuming Win7 has it or some equivalent).
I have not adjusted any driver setting as I dont know which settings to adjust and I do not want to cause any new problems without knowing what exactly to change.
I already have the Catalyst software set to "use application settings".
Quote - you can try running dxdiag from the start>run menu option. Its not particularly useful but will tell you if any of the directx stuff is bad.
I just ran "dxdiag" through start>run but Im not sure what information I should be looking for in the windows that open. I ran directx and directdraw tests and those went fine.
Quote - heres a tweak from Kaibach
*edit the poser.ini file located in C:Documents and SettingsApplication DataPoser 7poser.ini and change
PREVIEW_OGL_OBJECT_BBOXPICKING 0
to
PREVIEW_OGL_OBJECT_BBOXPICKING 1*
I edited the poser 7 ini file as you suggested then attempted to compile a preview animation and the memory usage still built up until poser crashed. =(
Quote - I do not have it up now, but there is a Knowledge Base Article on this at Smith Micro.
There are several different things.. one is some ATI cards force on certain features which are great for games, but no so good for 3D apps like Poser. Turning off some of these or changing to Application Control normally resolves the issue.
I would need more details to be sure, but that would be a good start... I can not recall what version of Poser you are using, that may also change the specifics.
I have had "use application settings" enabled since i installed the card.
I ran across a knowledge base article (which may be the one you are referring to) when atempting to fill out a support ticket at smith micro. The article is entitled "My graphics program keeps crashing or disappearing" which appears on page one of the knowledge base.
This article, while nicely put together, does not mention my specific problem and suggests basic fixes I have already tried such as:
1) switching to sreeD (thats what I have to do now when making an animation)
2)making sure I have the latest drivers for my gfx card ( I have the full catalyst suit released 6/16/2010)
3) reducing hardware accelleration (which would be something I would need to change back to full for anything outside of poser....besides the fact that reducing hardware accelleration defeats the purpose of using the openGL setting in Poser)
I just created a Catalyst graphic settings profile for poser in which I turned anisotropic filtering and mipmap detail all the way down as stated in the article but the problem remains.
What additional details would you need?
Im using Poser 7 SR3 (version 7.0.4.220)
AtI Radeon HD 5770 with full 10.6 driver suite (released 6/16/2010)
Using Windows Xp Pro Version 5.1 (build 2600.xpsp_sp3_qdr.100216-1514)
I greatly appreciate everyone's suggestions but im losing hope =(

Quote - There are definitely some driver settings that used to need changing for ATI cards, and ISTR there was also a particular tweak for Poser.ini related to ATI OpenGL picking.
One thread (linked) mentions the need to download the full Catalyst Suite to make sure OpenGL is updated rather than just the drivers.
I read through the link you provided. Although the problems stated there are different and deal with different version of Poser the card mentioned by some of the posters is the same one I have (radeon HD 5770).
I got the full catalyst suit a few days ago hoping it would help (the one released on 6/16/2010) but it didnt help =(
its really starting to look like ATI and Poser just dont get along.
I went back and forth for days trying to decide between an ati card and another Nvidia card but settled on this one because of directX 11 support and slightly more power for the money.

Quote - try switching to sreed rather than opengl and see if that makes a difference.
check that the group editor is set to +
woah nice call mark! I switched to sreed and it worked! I can select verts now =)
....which brings us back to the ATI card. with my old geforce card I could keep openGL on all the time (for faster posing ) and never had any issues. apparently the ATI card doesnt work well with poser in openGL mode because it wont let me select vertices AND it wont let me compile a preview animation without massive memory usage and eventually crashing (as posted in another thread).
I dont think Ill be buyng ATI anymore =/
but thank you mark for figuring this out! you da man!

Quote - It's not just you. It happens to me as well, and I have an Nvidia card ;o).
Laurie
the exact same issue happens to you? does it go away?
its nice to know its not the card but then....whats causing it? I cant see animating in poser without the use of dynamic cloth.
Thread: grrrrr....cloth room broken! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
gave that a try. still cant select anything =(
actually im glad that wasnt the issue cuz editing dynamic groups from waaaaay back would be horribly dificult lol
Thread: Poser stuff! the making of.... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Wow...so much great info and advice. I wasnt expecting such a large response in one day =)
Quote - Actually, for animation, I'd suggest you looked into using dynamic hair. After all, that's what it's meant for. With the right settings (and granted, those take TIME to master) you can have very believable hair movements. The same is the case with dynamic clothes. Although conforming clothes move with the figure, it will never look totally real. Dynamic clothes falls, drapes and moves like real fabric (again, given that it's made right!)
I agree. Im a big believer in dynamics for animation. Most of my animations (the ones that have clothes anyway lol) use conforming clothing and/or hair that I have converted into dynamic props using the cloth room in Poser (an example is this one on Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0SiQqPh5wk ).
As for the dynamic hair room, I dont really like the hair created there. It looks way too stringy to me as well as being highly computationally intensive to run the dynamics AND render. Turning hair models into dynamic cloth usually gets me a faster and better looking result.
Though, admittedly I probably dont know how to use the hair room as well as I should. The only useful thing I've found for the hair room is creating grass that will blow in the wind realisticly.
(P.S thank you for the kind words about my animation products)
Quote - If it helps, I found modeling to be daunting to say the least. So, I downloaded Wings and just played with it, just played around. I got an idea of what to do in less than a week...
Sometimes, you have to just try with no expectation of success ;o). If you think about the huge picture up front, you may as well give up before you start. Just take baby steps. You might surprise yourself.
Laurie
That's a very good point and actually thats how I got started with animation. Got a copy of Poser never expecting it to lead anywhere and just started pressing buttons to see what would happen.
You're right that if I had the intention then of learning all this stuff about animation then it probably would have seemed too daunting of a task and given up long ago.
Thank you for reminding me that I should approach model making the same way.
Quote - > Quote - I was of the opinion that some vendors wanted to keep their secrets and that is fair enough.
In technical terms, I call these people "dicks".
LOL
I figured that may be the case with at least some of the very talented vendors which is one reason I havent directly messaged any of them with questions. I figured asking in this forum was a better way to gather from a large pool of knowledge anyway.
BTW mark I wasn't aware you did any modeling O_o
From the advice that I've read here it looks as though I need to decide between Wings and Blender to get started.
I will go through the links that have been provided so far.
Thank you all for your contributions to this discussion to this point and more opinions are, of course welcome.

Quote - The script you are thinking about is Face_off's Realism kits which relies on light positions. BB's system is entirely different and has no dependencies upon other external factors. A very superior product and it's free.
its independant of the lights AND its free??? O_O
well....no excuse for me not to have it then lol
Ill look for it immediately.
Anyone have a direct link or at least a product name to search for?
thank you both.
Thread: multiple runtimes and texture anomolies | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
interesting....
so it was that exact node after all?
Now that I know the exact issue it should be easier to deal with. Thank you.
actually i think I already have your shader set....or someone's shader set..... but doesnt the python have to be recalculated if the primary light source changes? Since I mostly work in animations that would be an issue. Maybe I dont have the latest real skin shader product. Which is the best currently available?
anyway thanx for the info =)
Im curious. though...
how did you discover and isolate such a (seemingly) minute math bug? Do you work from the code side?

the first screen shot below is a particular texture set (Kirei for A3) loaded in Poser 6. The second is the same texture set in Poser 7. Its not the textures specificly but the nodes that shade the textures. A few other character texture sets that use some kind of real skin shader tree also have this problem.
The circled section shows the values that can be changed to get the texture hue close to what it should look like. The "red" value can be changed from .3 to .1 OR I can change the color mode from RGB to HSL, however in the screen shots you can see that the values are the same and yet in the two programs it colors the skin textures differently.
Im not sure if this node is where the EXACT problem is occuring but Im pretty sure real skin shaders and similar skin shaders are where the problem lies.
