Apophysis and Ultra Fractal produce somewhat different kinds of images - and both are equally well supported by the fractal community. It really comes down to the type of images that you are looking to create and/or sell.
There aren't many Apophysis script writers that would impose limitations to what you can do with an image you have created with the help of their scripts... the one pre-requisite would be that you don't use the raw output of the script - usually a bit of tweaking is necessary to clean up or sharpen the results of a script for the best end result anyways - so that isn't always an issue...
You could always use both programs... grin

Thread: 3D hack 2.06c - problem once again - !? | Forum: Fractals
That problem is mostly caused by having either too many plugins in your plugin folder, or having some of the "non-official" plugins installed.

Alternately, you can go the the attached link and grab the latest Functions.asc file which has the proper code for CalculateColors in it...T.

Create a folder under your Apophysis 2.0 folder called "plugins" and copy the .dll files into there...

I'm not sure if Flam3 can handle the Apo 3D variations yet, so you might be better off using the internal renderer to render flames made in that version. The message at the bottom of the Export render window is there even if you are using the latest Flam3 version - so if you know you have the very latest version, you can ignore it.

Thread: Apophysis error... Someone had it? | Forum: Fractals
Do you have any plugins installed? There is a known problem with some of the Z+ plugin pack ones conflicting with other plugins.
Try deleting all of the plugins you have in your Plugin folder, and then go to http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=201476 and download the most recent "bin" zip file - extract it to your Plugin folder and see if that fixes the problem.

Thread: Question about Apo 2.06c | Forum: Fractals
You could change your computer's date before running Apophysis 2.06c - change it to before November 1st 2007, and it will run fine - just don't forget to change your date back to the current date after finishing with Apophysis, OK?

Hi Maddy,I've attached the link where you can download the latest official version of Apophysis.
If you bookmark it, you will always know where to go if/when they expire, OK?

Well - essentially Apophysis is programmed in Pascal, written via Delphi. I do believe that the actual scripting is parsed via Scripter Studio (see link attached for that component) - obviously not all of the commands are relevant to scripting for flame production, and some of the component names are defined in the actual program filesĀ - things like "Transform.Linear" for example.Fred has done some pretty extensive playing with scripts, and the only other person that would know more than anyone about them is Piotr Borys (one of the actual Apo developers), but I'm not sure if he has the free time available to write a definitive text on scripting (full time job and all that sort of thing... lol!) Fred gave you a link to Piotr's webpages that contain the update text files for Apo, didn't he? Those are probably the best place to start the journey to learning how to write scripts, as is picking apart some of the older scripts linked above, and play about... grin

What I've done when I've wanted to write a script is to look at other people's scripts and work from there... a lot of trial and error, but usually gets decent results.I've included a link to Elizabeth Tomchek's scripts for you - she has a pretty broad range of scripts there to play with and see how various commands work...
