Its great for the price .. nice to play around with if you are new to Vue .. but its also worth unlocking as you not only get to render larger images but you also get to upgrade the renderer to the full Vue3 version which improves the quality as well .. Have fun

Sounds very similar to what Terragen does .. it computes terrain on a per pixel basis rather than using a mesh .. as its procedural the detail is infinate like fractal rather than based on a texture ..

Interesting first render .. did it turn out as you were hoping? Don't forget to check the tutorials out .. some very useful stuff in there .. I haven't posted my first render using Vue as I'm still tweaking it and learning quite a bit as I do ..

You could try using something like WorldMachine which is a dedicated terrain builder and free to download .. then save the terrain to bmp and import to Vue .. I've used WorldMachine for a while in conjuction with Terragen and it's quite easy to pick up and can produce so great terrains to work with ..

Hold on .. I said there was one last thing I needed to try ..
When you get the serial key to unlock Vue3LE you also gain access to the software updates .. now I had tried the lastest upgrade but it didn't do the trick .. but you can get it to work using multiple upgrades ..
Upgrades and sequence required to fully unlock Vue3LE once you have the key -
Vue3Update301.zip (overwrite all existing files)
Vue3Update302.zip (again overwrite all existing files)
Vue3.1Upgrade.zip (apply patch as normal)
Still doesn't help those with the locked version but atleast those that decided to buy a key can get some sensible use out of it ..
So there you go .. happy rendering =o)

I read somewhere that when using OpenGL make sure you not overclocking your graphics card as it becomes unstable very quickly .. even if using only the utilities supplied by the manufacturers. As the graphics cards are not being used in the normal way they are more prone to errors that do not show up on a normal 3D benchmark conditions.

And we now have an answer for the unlocked version too .. Water is still a flat surface .. as are the trees trunks when rendered .. the full version of Vue3 and even the Demo version does not have this limitation and renders ripples on water .. so for Vue3LE (full or limited) the renderer appears to have been downgraded. There is one more thing I need to test before uninstalling but for the moment it's not looking promissing ..

Are you by any chance using Vue D'esprit 3 Limited Edition? I have noticed that Vue3LE produces flat water unlike other versions .. importing the same scene into Vue D'esprit 4 will produce normal water again .. I have yet to find out if the unlocked version of Vue3LE removes this limitation or whether Vue3LE users are stuck with flat textures until they get a full upgrade .. still waiting for the magic key to arrive ..
