Quote - You don't need to re-install. IT WILL NOT HELP.
Pay attention to what I am writing.
STOP USING THE FUCKING MAIN RUNTIME TO STORE YOUR SHIT
[bzzzzt - Seizure]
Sorry, I was writing as you were replying :)
I haven't been around here for a long time, so missed any previous discusions.
Thank you for replying though, I really do appreciate it.

Quote - You will find the mysterious files you can't find right now in:
C:/Users/Ted/AppData/Local/VirtualStore/Program Files (x86)/Smith Micro
Replace "Ted" with your user name. Replace Smith Micro with e-Frontier or whatever.
You cannot find these folders by listing them in the Explorer browser unless you enable display of hidden and system files and folders. You are in a serious world of don't know what you don't know.
And stop saving your own shit to Smith Micro folders. You are confusing YOU, your OS, and your copies of Poser.
Use external runtimes.
Ahhh, thank you :)
I just added that Runtime and now have all my content showing up.

Quote - Also, it's a bad idea to merge Runtime folders the way you've described, wisq. That's actually the main reason we added the "Add Library" option as I recall. You can seriously screw up your Poser install by simply cutting and pasting (less so now but I think in Poser 7 it was still a risky venture) one runtime into another.
Just to be sure it's clear, to add more than one runtime to a version of Poser:
In the Library Window, look for a large folder with a plus sign in the upper right hand side. Click that folder to begin the process of allowing Poser 2010 to access Poser 7's Runtime. You will be presented with a dialog box. In that dialog box, locate and open the folder containing the Poser 7 Runtime folder. Click OK and Poser 2010 will now be able to read the contents of the Poser 7 Runtime.
If you're doing it any other way, you're asking for trouble.
That's the problem. I did it that way in the first place, but it doesn't show any of my own content.
My stuff works in Poser 7. I've looked in the Poser 7 runtime, and cant find any reference to my folders and files, but it's there when I open Poser 7.
I added the P7 Runtime to the 2010 library, and it sees everything, except my own stuff.
I copied the P7 runtime to my Documents folder. It still doesn't see anything of mine.
I merged the 2010 and P7 runtimes, and all it sees is the basic 2010 pre installed content. Nothing that copied over from P7.
It's like the 2010 library browser is stuck seeing the same thing, and not updating to any changes.
I'm just gonna re-install the thing and start again. Save me from getting a headshot.

I'm on Vista 64 and searching the forum for mentions of UAC
boom Headshot
in the name of all that is unholy and in an attempt to prevent BB from having a seizure.
DO NOT PUT RUNTIMES IN THE PROGRAM FILES FOLDER FOR WINDOWS IS EVIL AND WILL EAT IT!!!!The Poser installer actually tells you this stuff
I return you to your regularly scheduled forum
Well, as I said, I've had no problems except seeing my own content in the Poser 7 runtime using the PP2010 library browser. It works fine for everything, but my own created folders and files.
If I've done it wrong, it's not a problem to start from scratch.

Oh yeah, in a desperate moment, I merged a copy of my Poser 7 Runtime with my Poser Pro 2010 Runtime.
In windows explorer, all the content is in there. In the Poser Pro 2010 library, it only sees the original PP 2010 default folders, not any of the added content.
I'm currently copying my P7 Runtime to my Documents folder to see if I can add it from there.

Windows search doesnt find them either. I think something must be corrupted somewhere :)
I'll run a check on windows to see if anything is corrupted, then probably just start over fresh in 2010.
Thanks for taking the time to help!

Quote - Don't pull your hair out. Assuming for a sec you still have Poser 7 installed, you could open that version of Poser and make a scene containing the clothing items (or any other times). Save the scene. Close Poser 7 and start Poser 2010. Load the scene and save the items you want to the Poser 2010 library.
That dosen't work, ufortunately. I just get a blank scene, but it seems to load it in.
I think my problem, is my geometry isnt in the right place. Even browsing with windows explorer, I cant find my files/folders I created in poser 7, even though they are there when I open the program.

Quote - What does your Poser 7 install path actually look like?
C:Program Files (x86)e frontierPoser 7
Actually, I think I may be being a bit stupid. In poser 7 I do the following:
Import *.obj
Conform using OBJ2CR2
Test and then save to the Figures Library in my own "WISQ" folder.
But I don't package anything up like with a product from here at Rendo. So, my *.obj file still lives in my regular Windows Documents folder. Am I right in thinking that it needs to be packaged up for Poser 2010 to see it?

That's a fantastic idea!
Easier still would be to install OBJ2CR2 in Poser Pro 2010, but can't find the zip, or sure if it's compatible. I'll email PhilC when I get my head straight :)
Quote - Alternatively, you should make sure you're saving to the Poser 7 Runtime folder and not the Poser 7 Downloads Runtime folder, as that won't show up unless you add it specifically. Otherwise, everything really should just work. Maybe detailed steps of your save to the library for the content and then a detailed step of your attempt to add the folder to 2010's runtime would help spot the problem?
Can't find the poser7 Downloads Runtime to check. Had a look in the EFrontier folder and my appdata folder, but no joy.
I'm saving everything to the Poser 7 runtime correctly according to the manual, and it works great in Poser 7. Just doesn't show up in the 2010 library. I've deleted all libraryPrefs in AppDataRoaming to see if it would reset, but again no joy.
Thanks for replying, I'll stick to your first idea for now :)

Anyone tried adding a hem using a soft decorated group ?
Copy the polys where you need thickness, shell them and give them their own material, then assign that material to the soft decorated group.
Just an idea :)

rjjack said "the inner polygons face inside" - which I took to mean that he hadn't reversed the normals. Doing that would cause render artifacts, anyway, because of the change of normal direction at the edge join.
(Yes, I do know that Poser makes its own normals and ignores those in the geometry file - if present - but the term is a convenient one.)
I read that as "face inside the mesh" , so generating my own confusion :)

I don't know about Silo, but in Anim8or the shell tool does just what you described in your first post - duplicates the surface, and joins the two surfaces around the edges. It's much easier that way, and you have interactive control over the thickness of the result. Just drag the mouse further to increase the distance. I find it's a good idea to bevel the edges after "shelling" to smooth the result.
Yep, that's exactly what the Silo "shell" does.
So, to replicate what I thought rjjack was doing:
At least, that's how I read it, but I've been wrong before :)

To give the illusion of thickness I tried a new technique, once the dress was finished I made a copy, scaled 1.02 times in the X and Z axis, assigned different materials to each part, and linked the two together by two strips of polygons assigned to a third material.
Just want to point out that the "Shell" command in Silo will do that for you - Just remember, you may need to to reverse normals afterwards depending on the direction you "Shell".

Position them both at 0,0,0 initially. Move one to X=k/2 where k is the inter-ocular distance you want. For exact human vision, use a realistic value. Move the other to X = -k/2.
what does x= k/2 mean?
for example if k is 2.5 then i do 2,5/2 on the x dolly?
Dolly cam A 1.25 on x and Cam B -1.25 on x
