AFAIR MapZone works with wine. so no problem here.
Another option would be "Bricks 'n Tiles" . Free for non-commercial use. As the name says, aimed at creating brick and tile textures. Just input a few images, and the brick texture gets created in a more or less random manner -- the more single images, the better. Don't know if it works with wine. Worth a shot!
Or the "Wood Workshop" but since it uses the .NET framework, no chance to install it with wine -- or is there? If you've got a Windows license lying around, why not install it inside a VM? No need to dual boot, then. ;)
All procedural.
For painted textures, Gimp or PS (again with wine), maybe Krita if you don't mind the QT interface ^^.
So far...
Thread: The Wave -- Houdini Particle Fluids | Forum: Animation
Still Houdini 10.0.465.
I agree, that it is a bit intimidating at first glance, But then again, once you get the hang on it, it offers a degree of freedom, which is hard to find elsewhere -- at least not without scripting. ;)
Thread: Cubemaps or render from 6 cams at same time? | Forum: Vue
Just the sky?
That's easy: "File / Export Sky". There, select "cube" as your supporting geometry, specify filename and where to save, set resolution (preferably in powers of 2, so 512 for example) and confirm.

Thread: Bevel script | Forum: Blender
Quote - There is a "Bevel Center" python script that lets you select just the edges you want. If you go through the regular blender menu you have to bevel the whole thing.
Umm, what?
Just select the edges you want to bevel, hit [W] and [Bevel] away. I use it all the time... works like a charm. Although I kinda miss the "recursive" function of the "bevel center" script. Would be handy from time to time.
