Caution! Neighbor kids may know more about computers than they appear, and be very amused at any feeble attempt to thwart their curiosity :) I have a similar problem and use PGP encryption. Easy to use. Free for non-commercial use. I zip the files up first, then encrypt/decrypt the zip file.Thread: Very slightly used Carrara 3.0 Studio for sale | Forum: Carrara
Man oh man did I screw up. I thought I would offer to help someone out who maybe wanted to get started in 3D animation but couldn't afford full price for Carrara 3.0. Instead, I started some sort of GUI flame war. By the way, folks, please notice that I only said I didn't like the interface. I never said that it was a bad interface. In fact, I think it's easy to use and a great way for ppl just starting out in 3D. I learned a lot using Carrara. That is why I was offering it to someone else. And then Nicholas tells me to learn to take a joke. Well, Nick, I'm certainly laughing now! This thread is absurd. - Bill

You people are unbelievably offensive, sarcastic and condesending. Wow, what a sense of community! I just bought C4D. can I expect the same kind of treatment on that forum, too?

If by modelling a car from blueprints you mean using the "blueprints" that are available on the web, I don't think that is relevant. Assuming they are not stolen (and I don't think they are) those pictures are put in the public domain by their owners, at least implicitly. If you mean using the actual manufacturer's blueprints, then I assume you got them by legal means and therefore I doubt there is any copyright violation. "Old masterpieces" and the vast majority of art works in museums are in the public domain and therefore there is no copyright violation. You cannot copyright an idea. You can only copyright an expression of an idea. (If you are clever, you can patent a non-obvious device or process, which is close to getting exclusive rights on an idea, but let's not open that can of worms here!) There is a provision in copyright law known as "fair use" which essentially says you can use some amount of another's expression for a derivitive work, but exactly what that percentage is not specified and therefore quite subjective. IMO, however, the second of these pictures goes far beyond fair use. And I say this because that I believe if you put these two pictures before a jury of our peers they would say the second picture is an obvious ripoff of the first. Unfortunately, only the original copyright owner has the ability to seek relief from this violation, if an violation it is. We can only bemoan. However, this has been an interesting exercise. - Bill PS I am not a lawyer. I don't even play one on TV. But I have been in graphic arts for a long time and have read a lot about copyright issues, especially since the act was recently updated with much knashing of teeth and rending of raminent. If you're interested in where it all ended up I suggest you go to www.bn.com and enter the search phrase "copyright artist"
Thread: Weld vs. Link and UVMapper vs. Carrara 3's uvedit | Forum: Carrara
I've used UVMapper Pro quite a bit and I think it's superior to Cararra's UV mapping tool. - Bill

Thread: Painting An Aircraft Texture. | Forum: Photoshop
Something I do is paint each skin panel separately, using a very tiny variation in hue, saturation or value from panel to panel. This technique also works well in the other texture maps that Hoofdcommissaris mentioned. - Bill

As Hoofdcommissaris said, printer inks are transparent so you can get lotsa different colors from so few ink tanks. This is the subtractive color principle -- above's a link that explains it. CRTs use additive color; here's a link that describes *that*: http://www.bway.net/~jscruggs/add.html BTW, this is just the tip of the color iceberg! :) - BillThread: Problem whith painting blackwhite photos | Forum: Photoshop

Drawing is and has been my best psychotherapy. I've spent countless happy hours with pencil and paper. I highly recommend it. Of course, PS and a graphics tablet is even better -- saves trees and undos are easier than erasing ;-) If you'd like your drawings to look more real, "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" is the best book on drawing ever (see link). But you gotta do the exercises! - BillThread: Increase Canvas Size X Pixels Action? | Forum: Photoshop
LOL, specifying pixels is the only way you can do it in Painter and it has always annoyed me that it didn't work like PS. It's ammusing to see someone that actually wants to do it Painter's way! -Bill
